If what the alleged male AP says Chris told him is true, that he really felt verbally and emotionally abused by Shanann and didn't know how to get out of the marriage, then trying for another baby and succeeding in doing so is a special sort of stupid in my book. If he truly felt that way then the last thing he would do is trap himself further by having another child. Then engage in other affairs while telling his newly pregnant wife over and over he wanted to separate.
Also, a thought on the reports of Chris being depressed and sad over what people are thinking of him now...IMHO, the "people" he his referring to are his current and past APs.

It's interesting (if true) that there is a common theme of him blaming SW for everything, including his own lying to the AP.

Agreed

I know the defence is not supposed to comment on the trial, but if this is nonsense, I think there is a high chance he would have issued a statement.
Public Defenders cannot issue any sort of statement. It would be different if CW was being represented by an external attorney.

It would seem that they were not killed until later into the early morning

That's what he says. It could have happened any time after he and the girls arrived home after visiting the friend that afternoon, perhaps even before he was seen cooking on the BBQ in the backyard.

Because he was downstairs? (according to the affadavit). I'm wondering whether he called AP during this period, so it may have been longer than a 'moment'.
His phone records should clear that up soon enough but it is strange he didn't mention it in his affidavit, wouldn't his lawyer advise him to do so? LE already knew about the affair, why hold back?

Public Defenders cannot issue any sort of statement. It would be different if CW was being represented by an external attorney.

But he could deny it - e.g via a family statement

This would be fully OK if the innuendo is false - it could be prejudicial to his trial!

Exactly. I have read hundreds of true crime books. I have read thousands of news articles and research papers. I have followed countless cases on television.

I think logically, and follow the evidence.

The facts here lead me to one conclusion, that CW killed his family.

Ditto

Strangling is such a brutal way to kill your tiny daughters. It doesn't make sense for her to be so brutal towards them. Her anger was towards her husband, not them.

I just cannot see her doing such a rash, brutal violent action, after only 15 minutes of him having 'an emotional conversation.' Maybe if he was actually loading up his truck and moving in with his girlfriend that night, I could consider her being frantic.

But after hearing about the AP, when she already suspected as much, what would make her carry out such brutal killings?

HE WAS THE ONE WITH THE MOTIVE TO GET RID OF THE 4 FAMILY MEMBERS. Not her.

I doubt there was an emotional conversation. He said she went straight to bed or WTTE, then he woke her at 5:00, then he changed it to 4:00 when he realised 5:00 was too late because the neighbour saw his car on the driveway at 5:15. There's absolutely no reason why he'd wake her to tell her that news. The emotional conversation was part of the reason to justify his lie that she killed them.

As you said katy, he had the motive, she had none.

Hm. Just trying to explain about flight delays and how one can never know how long they could be. One time we were flying to Mexico through Denver. They had a snowstorm and the delay was three days . Domino affect on all other airlines as well.

So no way could CW plan out his evening because of the flight delay.
Correct about not knowing the time they will actually leave but it is a good guess that she sent him a text when she was boarding and finally leaving. My husband travels for work and he never boards without sending me a “loading up, love you” text. That info, when the plane is rescheduled to leave, is also on line to easily access. As to the delay being a factor to when he killed the children, if it is proven he did, I don’t see it being a factor at all. They would be expected to be asleep in their beds whether SW arrived home at 11 or 2. If NK had come in for a minute, how would she or SW immediately known the children were deceased? CW would have just waited for NK to leave.

He had just killed his wife and unborn child, yet he didn't act traumatized.

No, not traumatised at all, and yet he knew the precious children were in very large tanks of crude oil and SW and Nico were in a shallow grave where their bodies could be attacked by wild animals. And notwithstanding that, he could preen in front of the camera and talk about his shirt. No-one will ever forget that.

We haven't really been giving his other sexual partners much credence in these threads, the thread will literally explode once he's considered kosher by all. CW having numerous affairs will paint a different picture of the 'too good to be true' husband and father, he lied and lied and has a knack for compartmentalizing, imo, which explains his demeanour while doing the porch interviews, a total disconnect to what's gone before. Compartmentalizing and rationalization usually go hand in hand, it's a theory I have about his personality. It could be a more serious condition, like psychopathy, it will be interesting if/when he's given a psych examination. jmo

Strangling has a particular profile for domestic/family assaults on women and children

I might look further into this

http://eknygos.lsmuni.lt/springer/605/73-87.pdf

Research on homicidal strangulation has shown that in a high percentage of cases, the offender and the victim have a family relationship (1,9,12) and that as much as 75% of the victims are females and infants (1,9,11–13). In previous studies, the most frequent motives for homicidal strangulation have been rape (6), sexual jealousy, and personal rivalry (9,11).

I figured court was over. When I'm in the middle of trial I don't have time for anything else. I'm working nonstop getting ready for the next day, fine tuning things, going over statements and testimony questions, making sure all my evidence is in order, double checking my binders and trying to find time to eat and sleep a bit before the next day...and I only do bench trials!!!!
You're superwoman! ;)

In any event, thanks for taking the time. Do you have a response at all? Given the judge's orders has your intuition changed?
Don’t we all have to be superwoman?
Work life balance is tough... unfortunately, life doesn’t stop during trials... it’s a great thing I have a fabulous support team at home AND at work! Jury selection is the most critical and time consuming preparation - yes, things come up during the trial but I deal with them as they do. Right now, we are having a dispute over medical records - but fortunately, I’m totally comfortable and confident in my position.

I received a notification that the documents were posted, so I thought I would share them in case they weren’t up yet. No time to check to see if they had been shared by someone else, so I apologize if they were already there.

And no, my opinion has not changed. I still get the feeling that today is something important... but who knows? This whole case is just strange.

All of which brings up another big question in my mind....WHY the heck would SW choose to strangle the children, when she knows her husband could see her on the monitors? Wouldn't she assume he could see her, and he would come in and do whatever he had to, to make her stop?

If she really wanted to do the evil deed, for revenge, why not wait a couple hours and do it without any interference from him?

IN all of the other cases, I know of,where parents killed the children , in order to devastate their spouses, they did so when the partner was not present.

What was her endgame, knowing he was there and would be enraged?

It's so obvious how much she loved them and they felt the same way about her. Adults can often hide their feelings but 3 and 4 year-olds let the whole world know when they're unhappy. The Santa video was a good example of that. There are dozens upon dozens of photos where the girls are beaming from ear to ear and those beautiful pics where they're snuggled up against her sound asleep. She would never have harmed them in any way. Full stop.

Chris Watts to make last court appearance before arraignment

This will be the last court hearing for Christopher Lee Watts before he is scheduled for an arraignment, where he may enter a guilty or not guilty plea.
[.....]
Watts waived his right to a preliminary hearing at a previous court hearing. This can't be used against him in court. He was previously scheduled for a status conference on Nov. 19, and it's not clear why the date was moved.
[.....]
Watts could face a minimum of life in prison if he is convicted of the five first-degree murder charges he faces. He could also face the death penalty, if the Weld County District Attorney decides to pursue that route. The district attorney will have 63 from Watts' arraignment to determine whether to pursue capital punishment.
[.....]
Little new information has come forward so far in the Watts case. The autopsy reports are currently sealed, as the prosecution and Weld County coroner have asked the court for permission to keep them from the public.

A hearing for the release of the autopsy reports has been scheduled for Dec. 21. While the hearing was petitioned by the coroner and is thus a civil matter, both the prosecution and defense in the Watts case have been granted the right to intervene.

No mention of arraignment date, but I just looked up the court site and it still have a Status hearing on 11/19. I'll keep an eye on it though.

So, CW is declared "indigent", and using public defense. Interesting.

He had a truck and three bodies. How did he position them so a motorist would not see something strange? Eventually she would have rigor. The children as well.

His drive was forty miles.

Most people seem to have a poor understanding of rigor mortis. CW killed SW some time between 2:00 and, say, 4:00-4:30 or thereabouts. Her body was placed in his truck before 5:15.

Knight’s Forensic pathology:

The flaccid period immediately after death is variable, but commonly extends to between 3 and 6 hours before stiffening is first detected, depending on environmental temperature and other factors. Rigor is first apparent in the smaller muscle groups, not because it begins there, but because the smaller joints, such as the jaw, are more easily immobilized. The sequence of spread of rigor is also variable but tends to affect the jaw, facial muscles and neck before being obvious in the wrists and ankles, then the knees, elbows and hips.

In other words, her body was still flaccid when he put her in the truck and only then would rigor start and it would be in the smaller muscle groups.

I think it is interesting in the many videos, while CW holds and interacts with the girls, I don’t think I ever saw him kiss on them or snuggle with them. Of course that does not mean he did not love on them off camera.

I am thinking that her friend was going to bring her home. She must have parked at the airport.

Maybe the friend would want to come in for some reason or she would be invited in.

SW and her friend NUA both worked for Le-Vel and had both been away together at a Thrive convention/event with others. When they left the airport, NUA dropped SW off at her house, they waved goodbye and NUA saw SW enter the house.
