I think CW was getting legal advice passed down to him that day. How to avoid murder 1. His father was probably stunned and out of it that day, anyway. And later realized CW lied, IMO.

When CW wanted to speak to his father, the second time, 'to tell the truth'. I think this was a means to try to lessen his charges.
What could he come up with?
Perhaps there was some 'legal knowledge' thrown in.
Then, SW was guilty of murdering the girls.
