I know Ronnie and Cindy Watts have been approved to read victim impact statements which strikes me as wrong. I don’t like the interviews they have given in the past week and don’t think they comprehend that Shannan’s family is far more “impacted” than they have been. They still have a son and they have added insult to injury by disparaging her with prejudiced and biased projections. It seems to me that they feel that SW is the only reason this happened! And yet it is their son who actually carried out what Cindy claims will “kill her” to accept.

I don’t think they deserve to behave as if this loss has been either equal or as devastating to them as it has been to the Rzuceks.

Shan’ann’s Family has Dieter the dog left to remember their daughter and grandchildren today. Ronnie and Cindy Watts still have a son directly responsible for their demise and Chris Watts will likely outlive them. If he won’t call or write to them, that’s on him.

It would be good if the court could approve or not approve the statements they have prepared. Statements proclaiming innocence or any criticism of victims should not be allowed. It is not right for their statements to cause Shan’ann’s family even more distress. I am sure Shan’ann’s family have been caused enough distress already by what has been claimed and said.

“The Victim Impact Statement is submitted to the Judge prior to or at the time of the Defendant’s sentencing. This is your chance to put in writing how this crime has affected you physically, emotionally, financially, as well as any other changes in your life you may have experienced”.

It also says that you don’t have to submit one, but if you do, it can help the judge determine an appropriate sentence. It also becomes part of the official record.

I’m confused by the legal verbiage does this mean he can appeal his plea deal sentencing? I thought he was getting LWOP?

It's just stating a fact, which is everyone has a right to appeal their sentencing under certain circumstances.

Those circumstances are narrow.

He's getting LWOP.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he actually hates his mother because of her controlling ways.

Shan’ann was in a very dark place in her life when she agreed to met him. She had been through a divorce, was sick, but more importantly, was vulnerable. As he had “no game” and seemingly only had one prior girlfriend which hadn’t been serious, she would have been an easy target. Once her health started improving, her true self started to shine through. She updated his wardrobe and would have given him a degree of confidence that he never received from his mother. Once her influence became apparent to MrsW and her control started slipping away, the rot would have started to set in.

For the first time, he was able to start living his own life as he chose. He was now living more like a man than a child under his mother’s thumb and MrsW would have had a lot of resentment towards Shan’ann. This is obvious now from many of the things she said in the extended interview:

“He was always a little strange”. Shan’ann always said a lot of things about Chris in front of her that she didn’t like including, ”He looks like a skater boy. Look at his hair. Look how much stuff he puts on his hair. I got a bad feeling. Shan’ann and I didn’t get along”. Would she seriously have people believe these sort of trivial things prevented them from going to the wedding, a huge event in any young couple’s life. It’s beyond cruel. She was losing/lost control and punishment follows. What a heartless individual.

Was their need to escape his mother’s clutches and interference so great that CW chose to get a job in Colorado? They reportedly left in a hurry, possibly to prevent his mother from having much warning of the impending move and trying to talk him out of it. She stopped short of saying that she actually hated Shan’ann, but it’s quite obvious that she did. While rarely mentioning her by name, when she did it was always in a disparaging way. She only talks of the murdered children and doesn’t want him to be the murderer. Shan’ann and Nico … forget about them. She deserved it if you believe MrsW.

What goes around comes around and she’s going to cop a huge amount of flak from the public for her disgusting vicious comments about her murdered pregnant DIL.

People Mag thinks Jeffery MacDonald is innocent!

They have done the same type of stories on Scott Peterson, implying he was railroaded and will be released soon.

That type of thing sells, unfortunately.

It’s not hard to find some “expert” who can be used to cast doubt on the official narrative.

Thanks, I've never heard of it. I don't know why people waste time listening to people with no qualifications or experience blabber on a podcast.

I was only made aware of it because it was mentioned on the WS show with Tricia.

I thought about that/them today. Beautiful, sunny, warm day today in NC. Weekend before T-Giving. And I thought to myself, instead of them getting ready for a nice holiday, they are having to fly to frickin’ CO to deal with all this. When most everyone else flying and arriving there will be happy and meeting each other. Makes me mad.

It is really sad that their Thanksgiving holiday will be based around this hearing and then the autopsy release. The entire Holiday Season this year will be torturous for them. As will the next several seasons, most likely.

I am glad that they have other grandchildren, that will enable them to get into the swing of things as years go on. There will be recitals, and sports, and graduations, so they will be able to celebrate family. But it will always be bittersweet...

That’s a really good point. Just brutal.

The silver lining is that this plea means that this process will have a quicker resolution than anyone could have possibly imagined.

Atleast it will all be over, and they can try to move forward.

Being a mother I even hate to speculate, think about the situation but I would just want to bury my self in a hole and never even think about what happened and hide and feel ashamed at how I raised A MONSTER LIKE CHRIS WATTS, if she things bad-mouthing shannan will make him look better she's sadly mistaken and it just goes to prove where this Beast came from sorry but true

She is hoping that making him look better will make her look better. I think it is more about her then CW.

I believe true for the Watts, but I was under the impression that Bella, CeCe, and unborn Nico were the Rzucek's only grandchildren. (I'm fairly certain SW brother does not have children).

Fortunately, putting lipstick on that pig won’t change anything.

He’s still a mass murderer, even if he “was a great teenager.”

Sounds like the MRS are just taking a break now. I was secretly hoping they got a cease and desist letter or something!

They posted this: Jay and I appreciate all the votes of support and confidence! We are blown away by the love and praise for our efforts. Jay is taking a much needed breather but rest assured we will be back and running very soon!

It has to be more than just taking a breather. Why would they do that NOW, 2 days before the major sentencing hearing? That makes no sense, if they are really trying to build up their followers.

I think they did suffer some major backlash, possibly cease and desist legal threats. JMO

Awww, that is sad. I thought he did have children. Heartbreaking that they lost their only grandbabies. Christmas is going to be so sad.

Exactly. The clock is ticking on this case, and the window closing on their relevance.

They’ve seen their popularity grow, and these final days are incredibly significant.

For them to “take a breather,” doesn’t jibe with their past behavior, nor common sense.

There is definitely a reason for it, and I think you might be right about some sort of legal action being the cause.

" ....Shanann’s memory and reputation deserves to be protected. And her family is fully prepared to do so.”
Exactly, and I really hope the c & d came from SW's family or the Thayer's. MOO

In New Zealand, victim impact statements have to be approved by the court. There is often outcry with people feeling like they have been censored. However I can see why it’s necessary at times.

i keep thinking this had to be a pretty rash decision for CW to kill his family. It just doesn’t make sense. If he had thought this thru at all, he wouldn’t have left a trail of text messages with NK. Even if he didn’t have a lot of knowledge about crime investigations, this is basic common sense.

I wonder if there truly was an “emotional conversation” (ie full out war) when she got home. He told her he met someone else, whatever. He kills her but kids wake up. At that point he had to kill them (and that’s the “deliberate” act the DA referred to).

Nothing else makes sense (not that murdering your kids does either). Also when you look at many family pictures and videos, he DOES look happy and in love with his kids.

I wonder if his parents will now go after LeVel to see if the patches contain something that caused their son to become violent. Mama has to find something.
