@Thepoet asked me last thread what the impact of victim impact statements have on sentencing.

IMO, the only impact they usually have when there's a plea deal is in the comments the court makes when handing down the sentence.

In other news, I might not be here during sentencing. I do have a brief hearing in the a.m.

Any bets on what the Watts parents will say I think their victim impact statements?

My predication at this point is they will talk about their own suffering as victims losing their grandkids. They are aware of all the comments put there I think and will try to redeem themselves by mentioning special things about Bella and CeCe and how much they love them.

They will talk mostly about how shocking this is. How their son has always been a good, decent person who dearly loved and provided for his children. They will talk about what a good family they have, or allude to it - "We are average people who love our kids, close family. There's never been a hint of trouble."

They will talk about how much they love CW and always will and maybe how they have to accept the plea but will never understand and because this isn't the son they know. So while they accept he has pled guilty they will always have questions and maybe even that they can't accept that he actually did what he pled to.

I have a feeling they won't mention Shanann much. They MIGHT say something kind about her family and their suffering. Like they pray for them and feel for them.

Because they've been advised I don't think they will cause a scene or blame Shanann. Not outright. But I have a feeling the implication that she's at fault or triggered the murders will be there but not implicitly said.

What do you all think?

That’s a hard one. On one hand I too think she’s aware of the backlash and will try to redeem herself.

On the other hand she may see this as her one and only opportunity to say what she really thinks and will go full crazy against Shan’ann and the public defenders, and be removed from the courtroom, with or without a contempt of court charge.

I think you are right, I don’t think she will be able to refrain from trying to imply responsibility for Chris’s actions lie elsewhere.

I absolutely agree with your assessment.

I’m expecting them to adopt a more appropriate tone than they had in their news interviews.

They will almost certainly read from a prepared statement, one that frequently mentions the positive aspects of CW’s life.

We will be taken back to Chris’ childhood, and hear more about him playing sports as he grew up.

Any mention of Shanann will be brief, and the kids will be mentioned more often.

Their statement will still be self centered, minimize CW’s culpability, and reflect on the unanswered questions they have.

He’s still his mother’s “little boy,” and she will express her unconditional love for him.

I expect this statement to still be a bit tone deaf, but not to the extent of their public statements thus far.

When it is done, we will still be left wanting.

Just spotted they only mention his father as being expected to be there tomorrow, not Mother Watts.
A wise choice if that's really the case. I don't think she would be able to hold back. Also I think CW is more likely to make a statement if she is not there. Imo

Wow. That’s a really good point. If Cindy isn’t there, then I think the odds of CW addressing the court goes up exponentially.

I thought she was there with the kids for four weeks and CW joined them for the last week. Have I had that wrong all this time?
Edited to add, I agree, I don't think missing his wife was a problem for him at that point.
She flew to NC on June 26th and returned on August 7th.

So the Public defender was in there with him when he was being questioned? Or is this right after he was arrested ?
He picked his Dad up in the morning and they went to the police station. Mom said five hours later, Ronnie got a call to come back. CW's arrest was 11:02 pm per the arrest affidavit. It sounds like he had legal representation when he made his confession, but it's a little hard to follow what Mom is saying.
Did they question him on just that day? Maybe they interviewed him the day before? She makes it sound like they interrogated him for seven hours and then another five on the same day.
If he was questioned for seven hours, it could have been Monday. I don't see how he could have squeezed that in on Tuesday with all those porch interviews. Or maybe seven hours is exaggerated? MOO

I have always doubted that she would go. I don't think that she would want to see Shanann's family get justice.
When I saw that she had applied to give a victim statement impact, I didn't really know how she could do that with the attitude that she so publicly displayed.

Maybe they will present a slide show of him growing up like Jodi Arias' mom at her sentencing.

Tomorrow can't come soon enough... Nothing can ever change what happened but at least he will never know freedom and free will again..

If she does not go, I wonder if it is a statement of protest or because it is too difficult for her ( which I understand).

It's amazing, the VI said the exact same thing in reference to Shanann.

Personally, half way through his first interview, I started crying. I knew. Which is a very weird feeling. I read a lot of true crime, but, never in a million years, do you expect something like that to hit so close to home.

Oh my lanta, I can’t believe they allowed that.

(Yay, less than 24 hours until they throw away the key.)

Haaaaa. Maybe childhood photos and video clips with the “Wonder Years” theme song playing in the background.

It’ll be incredibly touching, until we remember the monstrous crimes that he is being sentenced for.

NK's interview with the Denver Post. "Every morning Watts and other operators would gather in the
office break room while they waited to be dispatched to a field site". Was CW dispatched that morning
to the field site , where he buried Shannon in a shallow grave and proceeded to toss two beautiful girls into
into a oil vat. When he showed up for work, did co-workers see anything of the ordinary with his mannerism
that morning. How can a person kill his family, then just go about his day as if nothing happened.

We have tried to understand what transpired the nights of the murder to include possible reasons
why he killed his family.

CW has no regard for life. His whole story was a big fat lie. He has been been called a narcissistic,
sociopath. I view him as a monster!

That's right! She said their first thought was, what has she done now?

Do you mean she, or he? I said HE.

Edit to add, I'm sorry, I misunderstood what you said. :D

Someone who knew CW, when she heard that they were missing's first thought was 'What has she done?' Meaning SW.

My prediction for tomorrow is that nobody is going to have the nerve to victim bash tomorrow. I expect (and hope of course) that the focus will solely be on Shanann, Bella and CeCe as victims and CW’s atrocious’ actions and resulting penalties. Moo.
