I have a question regarding NK and the scrubbing of her phone/deleting of text messages. I was the victim of a stalker and though the text messages had been deleted, LI was able to subpoena the records from the cellphone providers. They got every last detailed text. It was a printed list of everything that was said. Though we as consumers don’t have access to this, LI can request it and every single word shared via text with anyone, is stored and able to be retrieved. So why would they not do this and confirm more of what was known/etc via their text exchange. Please forgive me if this was answered already.

IMO if this had went to trial they would have done this. ALL of this happened very fast. The defense asked for a plea way back when the autopsy came back. There are probably a lot of answers we won’t get because LE doesn’t even know every little detail as they normally would had this taken months or years to go to trial.

Yes, probably the most uncomfortable moment of his life. He never struck me as a strong, brave, or confident man. He was a coward and he was shaking in his britches. Like a baby. He knows full well what will happen to him in prison. There is no way he was just putting on on a show for sympathy. He doesn't want sympathy, he wants his life back. Or rather his new life that he was so excited about. If he was so bad at acting worried or being concerned during his interview then why would he do so much better in court? His trembling with fear was real, and it's a good thing. If he had been arrogant and emotionless in court than we would have to assume he wasn't bothered by what is going to happen to him. At least we can be assured that he is suffering for his actions. That alone gives some satisfaction. Jmo

It's my overly cynical mind lol, I wouldn't put any behavour past him.

Ya know what bothered me about the sentencing was when the Watts' said Shanann was their daughter. I don't think they had the right to say that. They didn't really even acknowledge her as such in life so...IMO

OH that just made my blood boil when they said that! How dare they....

I wonder what their reactions were to the information. Were they hostile and trying to refute the evidence? Did they continue to blame the victim for his actions? Or, did they admit that their son was indeed guilty?

IMO they finally know that CW did it but I still think they, especially Momma, thinks something had to trigger him to kill them all. She will never think her son is a monster. She will always blame Shanann for “changing” him.

Here is the revised list of questions. I've added back the question about the garage keypad because I couldn't find the answer to that after listening to the press conference again. If anyone can point me to where it was mentioned, I'd appreciate it.

I've tried to group the additions in with similar questions that were already on the list, so if your question has been added, it's not necessarily at the bottom of the list.

QUESTIONS WE HAVE ABOUT THE WATTS MURDERS
  1. What was the significance of the non-porous bag and the footprint?
  2. What was CW doing on the Saturday night before the murders? Did he use a babysitter?
  3. What did CW do with Shanann's engagement and wedding rings?
  4. What did the dogs alert on?
  5. We all heard a dog barking while at least one of the infamous 'porch' interviews took place, was it ever confirmed that the barking we all heard was a LE dog and not Dieter, the daschund?
  6. Will they ever release the police interview with Chris?
  7. What was underneath the blacked out areas in the arrest affidavit?
  8. The affidavit states that CW “ultimately” strangled SW – did he describe a big fight, inconsistent with the autopsy results?
  9. Did Chris Watts know the neighbors had cameras?
  10. Was the garage keypad really broken as CW told police?
  11. What is the history about that doll photo on her FB?
  12. NK "deleted" texts & FB posts before contacting LE. Do we know if LE recovered them?
  13. How did Shanann's phone get in the sofa?
  14. What was the content of the texts CW sent in the days leading up to the murders? Will they be made public?
  15. What was the content of his texts and any voicemail to SW after the murders?
  16. Bella was received at autopsy wrapped in a bedsheet "from retrieval process." Was this one of the Watts' bed sheets and was she found with it?
  17. What was the exact day/time CW called 1) the school to "un-enroll" the girls and, 2) the realtor about selling the house?
  18. Did the Watts have a home phone?
  19. Did SW mention to anyone (family/friends) that a separation or divorce was being discussed? Did NUA know what SW meant when she indicated she would need her friendship more than ever?
  20. Did Shanann ask to talk to the girls on Sunday night and if so, did CW deny this?
  21. When did CW find out about baby Nico's gender and what was his reaction that the DA alluded to?
  22. A reporter asked Rourke if he thought the pregnancy had contributed to CW's actions. Rourke said, "The reaction of the defendant when he found out was something less than what you would expect a normal and reasonable father to display when he found out that he was about to have a son." The DA looked and sounded like he was referring to something specific. Is this coming from texts they read between SW and CW? Something SW told family or friends?
  23. Why didn't SW, Bella, and CeCe have on pants? Was it to enable getting them down the oil-tank hatch more easily? If so, why then would SW not have on pants?

Are 21 and 22 the same in different words? My thinking is a bit mush today.

I agree. I don't want to get into any suppositions about NK as per the rules here, and because she is a collateral victim of CW herself, but in discussing the DA -- that and his statement that she was mostly not completely cooperative (paraphrasing) would lead one to believe that he did not think too highly of her. Also the way he would say CW's "girlfriend" with a spin on that word -- I think the DA is a highly moral man with integrity and the fact that NK wiped her texts did not go over so well with him. MOO.
I didn’t take it that way. I interpreted what the DA said to mean it took longer to get all the information because NK erased the texts, but they got all the information, anyway. He did say NK had nothing to do with the crime. At worst she could have been embarrassed about all the sexy stuff between them and innocently deleted them because she didn’t realize how important it was to the case and felt it was very private and personal.

I started to get the impression they accepted he did it all but he must have an insanity defense. When she said 'that's not normal is it?'

Yes, but my curiousity to the question was not what happened but whether he described it differently, just as he had described that the girls were strangled when they were not.
I think he simply shaped his explanation to come across as a man who committed an act of passion triggered by the murder of his children, so he would be viewed in the best possible light and punished, accordingly.

Well doggone it, I bet @Inthedetails a cup of coffee that it was working just fine. Will pay up tomorrow and delete this question from the list.

Didn't TB claim on AB that he was interviewed by LE and they collected evidence? If so, TB's account sounds bogus. I'll remove it from the list.

Thanks for responding. :)

The comment about the keypad was in a sit down one on one interview with DA Rourke, with a local tv station, not the public press conference. Let me see if I can find it.

Yes, he said the keypad was broken and they had to wait for Chris to come with his garage opener.

Lol, our thinking is in the same place. Similar questions except that 21 asks when CW found out about baby Nico's gender. MOO

I think his parents didn’t know what to think and probably still don’t, but realized they made complete fools out of themselves with the things they said during the previous week’s interviews, so they tried to acknowledge that without sincerely apologizing and without throwing their psycho son under the bus.

Why would they be waiting to release the interrogation tapes? It can't prejudice anything now.

eta, thanks for the reply pommymommy.

At about the 34:36 mark in the press conference, a reporter asked about rumors of other relationships CW may have had. (It was hard for me to hear exactly what the question was.)

The DA replied, "I'm glad you used the word "rumor" because I think that's the vast majority of what we saw on social media, was just that; FALSE RUMOR."

"I'm not aware of any other confirmed relationships that the investigation uncovered which would offer any insight into why this occurred other than the one, the girlfriend that I talked about this morning."

A reporter then asks, "Were any social media rumors disruptive to your process?"

Rourke says, "All of them were disruptive to our process."

CW and NK purportedly did not start seeing each other until late June, which coincides with about the time SW and the kids went to NC for the summer. So he was able to see her 4-5x a week because he was living by himself that whole time. Everything blew up when SW and the kids returned and he could not continue seeing NK the way he had been when his family was gone. It's terrible to think, but I wonder if things would have played out differently if they had never left for the summer. Maybe it all would have happened anyway, in which case, it's really good they were able to spend that time with her family.

*slaps forehead*
Of course. Thank you for setting me straight! :)

My take from that is there could have been other relationships but they weren't current and therefore had no bearing on his motive to kill his family.

Regarding the rumor that Shanann changed the girls school because the NK's children went there ... or actually any rumor about Shanann knowing the identity of the mistress can easily be disputed by asking yourself this question. If you were expecting would you pick a name for the baby that in any way resembled the name of the mistress ? Nico Lee is eerily close to Nicole. There is no way Shanann knew who the mistress was and I believe it was CW that chose that name.

One is what was the reaction and the other was asking how the DA knows of the reaction- text, video, etc. I think.

I wonder if the reporters were clued into the fact that he had cancelled school registration. More and more I think they were working with the police.
