My take from that is there could have been other relationships but they weren't current and therefore had no bearing on his motive to kill his family.
I think that's the only way we can interpret it. I wish his answer would have been more definitive. MOO

I don't think he was in half as much fear as the family members who loved him and he murdered.

I didn't see the same thing in court others are seeing. I think talk of CW crying, being in fear, feeling shame are all attempts to humanize him. I get why people want to. It's so hard to imagine there are people out there, capable of these types of crimes.

But, CW is not human. He's some sort of subspecies.

This is a man that, one by one, killed his family in a manner that was up close and slow. Then he carried their lifeless bodies to his truck like he was making a dump run. Drove all the way to work with a truck bed full of corpses like it was nothing. Dumped his wife and unborn child in a shallow grave. Making sure they didn't even get to be together in death he carried tiny bodies to two separate tanks and then shoved them in tiny holes, scraping their skin and leaving clumps of hair along the edges.

Then he went off to work where it was reported he was behaving normally. Made a few phone calls to unenroll his kids and sell their family home - a place filled with memories of his family. A place they should have felt most safe. Gave cool as cucumber interviews where he laughingly showed off his favorite tshirt . Casually dropped hints to his friends he and SW were thinking of selling their house.

These are not the actions of a man capable of feeling any shame or empathy. He doesn't even feel fear the same way you and I and I do. I imagine he has a lot of anger and envy, but Chris Watts only cares about Chris Watts. Any emotions shown in court were 100% self serving.

Even DA Rourke said throughout the entire duration of the investigation CW never showed an ounce of remorse and will likely never tell the truth.

Not only will he never tell, but I'll bet he'll keep taking digs at the Rzucek family in the years to come. Like SP enjoys popping up every couple of years to proclaim his innocence and desire to find Laci and Connor's "real" killer, we'll probably hear from CW from time to time how SW really killed those babies or some other form of blame.

Moo

Regarding the credit card charges, in addition to giving her the middle finger indicating he was paying for 2 to dine, he was also giving her the middle finger knowing that she was caring for 2 kids, preggers with a 3rd and working full time keeping her home business successful.

Knowing that they were just making it re bills, doctors', mortgage, kids schools, HOA, etc, he gives her the finger by spending a lot, running up the cc with his girlfriend.

So he tells her, figuratively, none of your freezer crap for me, you eat it, I'm spending our money on a mistress.

I don't know why this bugs me so much, given that he "ultimately" murdered all of them anyway. Just that a young family trying to make ends meet, and he flaunts his screwing around in the most public and personal ways he can. Publicly "dating" the AP, and personally making sure SW sees it in her own pocketbook. IMO

Lol, our thinking is in the same place. Similar questions except that 21 asks when CW found out about baby Nico's gender. MOO

I know that I am interested and when and who named the child. Because Nico, on her brother's Facebook, was spelled two different ways. One was the way with a c, the other way was with a K. So both the womens spelling were out there in the very very beginning by her brother

Excellent video recap of the case (transcript included at bottom right)
Video: 'Evil monster': The gruesome case of Colo. man who killed pregnant wife, kids

Former FBI Agent, Brad Garrett: "He's created two worlds and he's decided he's going get rid of one of them because it's now a burden."

I think the bottom line is he would've had a major problem explaining to his affair, who he's dated for almost two months, that he is at the end of a divorce, which typically takes several months, but his wife is only four months pregnant?

How could he explain Nico?

He might not have killed anyone if it were not for her pregnancy. That was what made the lie obvious. That was what would've made him look the worst. You've met someone new only two months after getting hot wife pregnant? And while she's pregnant you're divorcing her?

I think ultimately that was what he couldn't deal with. Not to his parents. Not to his affair.

A question that can be added to your list is: "Why didn't SW, Bella, and CeCe have on pants?" The autopsy results indicate that all three had on just tops and underwear---not nightgowns---just tops: a butterfly top on Bella, a T-shirt for CeCe, and a T-shirt and bra for SW. No pants means all three were not wearing shorts or pants to bed, or each had them removed post-mortem. Just think this is a bit odd for all three. Was it to enable getting them down the oil-tank hatch more easily? If so, why then would SW not have on pants?
because that's what they wore to bed.

Why would they be waiting to release the interrogation tapes? It can't prejudice anything now.

I don’t think interrogation tapes & other evidence are always released.

IANAL and I may have misunderstood, but I think there may be certain very specific circumstances under which he could appeal sentencing/the plea agreement in a strict time frame (49 days?).

I DON’T think he would qualify, or would appeal, but that might be why no further information is forthcoming, at the moment. JMO.

I consider "Nico" to fit either a girl or boy, and it was probably a name she always had in mind. I know lots of people who have done that, had a gender-neutral name ready to go.

Yes, he said the keypad was broken and they had to wait for Chris to come with his garage opener.

I wonder if they ever actually confirmed that.

No. That's not it. In cases of a murder conviction there is no time limit to appeal a plea.

It is curious, isn't it? I've added this to our list of questions. I also wondered if the name was chosen with NT in mind. His full name could be Nicolas...

According to this article, "she" (Shanann) picked out the name - that appears to be her parent's understanding, anyway. MOO

"According to Shanann's parents, she had already picked out a name for her first son: Nico Lee."

I wonder if the reporters were clued into the fact that he had cancelled school registration. More and more I think they were working with the police.

I had this thought right after that interview first aired. Or at the very least, reporters had some behind-the-scenes info.

Ah, thank you very much for setting me straight, @gitana1.

So he could, in theory, appeal at anytime in the future? And are there specific conditions to the grounds on which he could appeal?

Holy ****! I totally had a dream I went and got Shannan's leftovers in their fridge so they wouldn't go to waste... Maybe I'm too obsessed with this case.

PommyMommy The interview was with Jennifer Kovalevsky from Denver 7, after the presser. You have a small part of it in the Media section, but I can't find the whole thing. He talks about how the whole investigation kicked off and mentions the broken keypad. I am still searching but have food prep to do for tomorrow so will try again later.

IMO they finally know that CW did it but I still think they, especially Momma, thinks something had to trigger him to kill them all. She will never think her son is a monster. She will always blame Shanann for “changing” him.
Agree, she said in her statement “we will never be able to imagine what led to this day”. Nothing led to this day except your twisted son’s thinking. That said, I do understand a mother not being able to comprehend her son was capable of this without it being someone else’s fault but at the same time, keep those thoughts private, do not make it worse for the other family. I don’t know if she is as unaware as Chris is or just flat out mean. I wondered how she would have handled this if his wife had been someone she liked.

I hope someone does a serious in-depth book about CW, his upbringing and adult history.

I think the DA did backtrack on something he'd said earlier, and that was that the plea deal was the first attempt made by the defense to settle (incorrect terminology I know). I'm absolutely certain that there was a rejected plea before the full guilty pleas, because I remember wondering if the first plea was insanity.

Okay, thank you. I am short on time today myself, but I'll look if I can. MOO

ETA: @ZsaZsa, I just stumbled across it near the end of this interview by Keagan Harsha, Fox31 Denver. He says, "The keycode on the garage door didn't work."

He also says that the Chris Watts case will stick with him forever. Rourke is a father of 4 and also discussed how the case has impacted him as a parent.

@Inthedetails, here is that cup of coffee I owe you. :p
