I agree, everyone needs to do their homework before they get into a relationship. What would Shanann have found on Chris if she had done her homework?

NOTHING.

Therein lies the problem. We don't know how to look for this stuff. I was just saying on the Kelsey Berreth thread how scary Patrick Frazee is. People witnessed his violent outbursts and abuse of animals so there were serious reasons to hate that guy and plenty of red flags. Not true with CW. You'd have to have a complete psychological family profile, understand the damage a narc mother and wimpy father can do, understand that CW was very repressed, do brain scans to look for abnormalities regarding emotional stimuli, give him an MMPI and the Hare psychopath test and whatever else is used to try to ferret out a possible psychopath - all before you dated him.

Some time back, I came to the conclusion that CW was killing Cindy when he killed Shanann, with the kids being collateral damage. I'm even more convinced of that that after this interview. Did you notice how he he kept coming back to the wedding? He never got over that and while he transferred that resentment to Shanann, it was his mother who set that in motion and everyone but his grandmother followed Cindy.

Bingo! If any of the straddling conversation actually happened, I believe SW told him she would make it difficult to have a relationship with NK: child support, move the kids out of state, not allow them around her, etc. I believe when he realized she was going to come between him and his new obsession, he lost it (just like your two examples but to a much larger degree because he feared he had so much to lose after his summer of love).
He’s a monster.

Can someone imagine doing in in a civil way?

Going to a lawyer - the first consultation is free. To see what were his real options.

Talking to NK - explaining the real situation and asking if she’d marry him given the financial issues, post-divorce?

If yes, discussing it with SW. If NK post-divorce was not an option, going to a counselor to work at his failing marriage. He’d have to change, and SW had to change, too, it would have taken work, but still worth it.

Still better than ending life in prison, looking at the photo of people that he killed.

In hindsight, I believe that family therapy with a good, seasoned, probably older male therapist, might have saved the Wattses. Chris can not interpret his emotions, moreover, he confuses physical feelings (sexual gratification) with emotions (love). I am thinking of how much a good therapist might have helped him. All CW’s ideas about marriage were so naive (e.g., having a child to save a marriage).
But sadly, people go to therapy when they are on the verge of divorce, and not when they are still holding it together.

I don’t think a therapist could save someone who can murder a pregnant wife and his two toddler children.

She would have married Chris. It was not the challenge of dating a married man. NK is “the grabber”, I think, and if the best thing she can get is married, it does not stop her. But in her texts to her friend at the beginning, she did not seem too happy that CW was married.

NK, who is brainy enough, financially stable, decently good-looking and a good playmate, probably doesn’t have it in her what it takes to hold a man. I don’t know what she is missing, maybe inner fire, some charm? Too cold, too calculating? I suspect she is a bore, too, there were pieces of the interview that sounded so strange and yawn-producing.

I can see Shanann marrying had the Wattses divorced, and being a single mom with three kids, still finding a decent guy.

Also, CW is boring, but clean and sober, perhaps he did not have it in him to be the real boss but could make some career in the oil field, plus, he was a “yes” man.

I see her as a "what's on it for me" person. Calculating manipulative. In the beginning she probably thought Chris had money. I wonder what was in the 2000 pages of deleted texts. Him promising her a good financial future? We'll never know.
She told him to get Shannans ring appraised. How come Chris didn't know what it was worth? Didn't he buy it? Or did Shannan keep the ring from her first marriage

I heard a horrible joke years ago that reminds me of this case.
Husband: Wow, look at that gorgeous, sexy woman over there.
Wife: Oh, Honey, would you leave me for her?
Husband: Sweetie, I would KILL you for her.

I remember another joke that oddly reverberates with this one.

At a debutantes’ ball in Texas, one man says to another, “Gosh, look at this gangly, lanky girl!”

The other one says, “yesterday, she was gangly and lanky. Today, she is tall and stately. They just hit oil at her dad’s property in the morning”.

It happens, sadly.

I've known women who go out of their way to seduce married men with kids. Even befriending the spouse of the man they want to take away.

It feeds their ego and makes them feel powerful.

UGH.

NK was one of those women, no matter how much she denies that CW "PROMISED" he was estranged from his "nasty" wife and toddlers.

A decent woman would run a mile.

It usually doesn't end well, though. Those guys are chronic cheaters and nothing is enough to mollify their pathetic egos.o_O

moo
ITA. NK was doing it for an ego boost. It was a fantasy rooted in insecurity that she would be better for him and more desirable than the beautiful wife he already had. He became infatuated with her by design. And once she got what she wanted, the reality of everything started to set in and she started pulling away from him. MOO

I don't think he ever actually told SW about NK or asked for a divorce. He never even researched anything to do with divorce, child support, custody, etc - wish the interviewers had asked him about that.
I think he was obsessed with NK and felt that she was already starting to slip through his fingers, even before all of the difficulties a divorce was certain to create had begun.

CW said it is never a good thing to say that you wished you hadn’t met someone but he did say he wished he had left it at the office and not started an affair with her.

ETA it was clear to me, however, he still cares a lot about her and wishes he could talk to her.

ETA also, it seems clear he worries more about her life than the lives he took.

+ 1!

Subconsciously or even consciously, he wishes he could have pulled the murders and lived with NK happily ever after. He still considers her the love of his life. He is nowhere close to the remorse. He thinks, or pretends, that he misses his family. He just discarded them all for his imaginary life that he still holds on to. And he still hopes NK will visit him in prison.

I hope one day the reality will hit him, and it will be his comeuppance. That he’ll develop flashbacks, or dreams of leading his kids to the truck. That he will feel it. Well, he has a long life to dwell on it.

Today I was thinking about prison punishment. I am against any tortures. Of turning prisoners into fearful animals. But the photo of his wife and kids is a reward, he holds the life he used to have close to himself. He does not deserve it. And for Christian forgiveness, one has to truly repent, to feel what he has done, experience the guilt, the shame, the loss, the sadness?

Chris is obviously a visual guy.

What instead of photos with his family’s presence in this life, they bring him the ones showing their absence from it? The ones from the case, day by day? What the investigators had to see? All this profound sadness?

Do you think he’ll get it then? Or is this punishment too unchristian?

I agree that it never would have worked between NK and CW in the long run, IMO. CW needed thestabilizing force of someone like Shanann in his life. Once he started making decisions on his own, he self-destructed, and he took everyone else down, too.

CW let out a big one in his interview. He said NK was on EHarmony when he was dating her and she set up two dates with two different men during that time and was stood up by both.

I think NK was desperate to find a guy and she had some bad dating experiences under her belt. Then CW came along, and he was nice to her. He showed up when he said he would be there. She didn't have to pay for her own dinner. He told her she was beautiful and that he loved her. She grabbed on, IMO.[/QUOTE

I agree. I can see in his quiet way he probably made her feel like she was the only woman in the world. Let her talk and talk and talk intently listening and staring at her

Interesting theory and IMO there is merit to it. And to take your conclusion one step further, if Shannan was a proxy for Cindy, then the children may have been proxies for himself.

Notice that one of the reasons that he did not want to go to trial was because he did not want to see the pictures. It has not been a year yet, He keeps making references that indicate he does not realize this is for the rest of his life. He is living in denial. In time he will start to realize that Nicole is gone and that he will never have other children. I think he will dream about them. It is weird that he reas to their picture...if he really does, It may drive him to madness, Maybe. More than likely he will just adapt to his life as it is. Seems that adapt and blend is how he has lived his life.

She is certainly out of the group who do their homework. And yet very insecure. If she was such a willing partner for Chris, don’t you think it was her style in general? And yet men stood her up, and she had failed relationships...it is as if guys didn’t stick.

As to her thinking Chris had money. I suddenly got an idea why she was Googling Shanann in 2017. I wonder if when NK joined the company, with so many men around, she was checking some of them that were “promising”, in her eyes. Married-not married, status. She probably knew how much a field engineer would make at the company, and yet CW had an amazing house, this and that. I wonder if she Googled Shanann to find out if Shanann had the money in the family.

MOO.

NK definitely has her own demons and I really dont feel sorry for her especially after I read she googled Amber Frey and other things which implied money.

I wonder if he did not go to trial because he did not want the public to see the pictures? I bet he has the memory of all that happened, remembers them. (As a former school chess player he must have good visual memory. And given the primitive way he speaks, I assume he is primarily a visual processor.) But he hoped the public won’t see them, did not count on the data dump.

He keeps the pictures as the mementos of his past life. As if they are alive. This is why he was so honest, when he spoke with the visitors, he was relieving that life. Reading or talking to them won’t drive him mad. It is keeping them alive.

And yet out of all moral freaks he is the only one who speaks.

Ms. Kessinger, how does it feel that you had raunchy sex with a married man that murdered his family in a horrific manner and wishes he never met you. Karma -- does exist.

She finally got her "first".

I was thinking the same. Besides I think she has a kind of esp or emotional intelligence to feel people and situations out. She knows what she's doing. You can see her do this with the officers on the interrogation interview
She probably checked out a lot of guys at anadarko and Chris was one she could manipulate. She could tell from the getgo

there is definitely something "not right" with women who worship men who murder and rape etc no doubt CW will have his fan club who write to him etc now for the rest of his life, it's beyond sick IMO

This will give this jerk so much pleasure, realizing he is so important, so wanted.:eek:
Daily he probably will delight in these readings.
This 'fan club' of creeps will follow him everywhere, and he will not be lonely.
Yuk.
MOO.

Was anyone else surprised when CW said in his interview that he was surprised he’d gotten life in prison, that he didn’t think he’d get that much?
Just another example of how little common sense he has... killing four people, including three small children... what other sentence would be possible?

I think, CW is still living in this 'imaginary' world, as referred to recently in a post, writing about his holiday overseas.
He isn't in the moment, of his life.
To even think, killing his entire family, he wouldn't get life in prison, is absurd.:(:(:(:(
He doesn't realize, even now how evil his actions are.
He is a freak, and I hope he doesn't receive further attention, as he delights in this, feeling important.
MOO.

I just finished listening to his confession. I thought he put SW in the bed of the truck... it never dawned on me she was on the floor where the girls were sitting with garbage bags over her feet and head. Just sick. Those poor girls!
