I wonder if that plastic Twister sheet from her FB post is still in the house.

Going back to his interviews, I was certainly struck, too, how "cavalier" he was, including that obviously inappropriate laughter in the middle of it.

Curious, I looked up psychopaths and, in a nutshell:

1 - Inability to feel any empathy.
2 - Manipulative, often can gain trust of others quite easily.
3 - Often come across as charming, articulate, simply because they learn to mimic emotions. So they watch and learn.
4 - They are utterly remorseless because they simply don't care.

Because of the above four points, they often are educated or have steady jobs and relationships.

They view their victims simply as objects (no empathy).

So what is the motivation to kill? Sometimes it's sexual in nature and sometimes it's for their amusement. Sometimes we have will never no why.

They sound like about the sickest people I can imagine and, again, if you watch the interview he gave, he came across very relaxed, remorseless and definitely manipulative since we know now he was clearly lying.

Wretched human being if you can even call him that.

I have been following this as my very good friend lives a stones throw from Frederick. When I went out to visit her those oil sites are EVERYWHERE and do explode from time to time. The land is very flat starting about there and the farther east that you go.
There is not much around them, sometimes a small building, tanks and the ground is so dry it is like cement so I am wondering if he actually buried them?
This is just a terribly horrendous one, that poor family.

I just watched the interview, and I would be an emotional wreck during an interview if my wife and kids had disappeared into thin air. I would be crying, have a look of fear. He was not feeling anything. Glad he did himself in with his own interviews.

There's an additional screenshot under the comments on that photo that's really strange too. JMO

The screenshot of Shanann's comments? That's a screenshot of her initial responses on the same post. Yes it seems extremely strange now. However at the time it was just kids playing. They likely grabbed the Twister sheet to use as a blanket. It was just toddlers playing. Looking at it from adult perspective it was a joke about how they would have each others back. It was nothing bad, just a dark sense of humor.

For appearing so narcissistic, this guy didn't think anything through. He made the house look impossible to both leave or break into, and then hid a body on his employer's property? All signs point to him, so why the fake poor me interviews?

This reminds me ENTIRELY of the Phillip Austin case. I only recently watched an episode of Killer in the Family chronicling his crimes.
Phillip Austin - Wikipedia

Yes. I remember that case and wanted to add it to the list but couldn't remember his name! They did a study of him and his background as an ineffectual loner, part of explaining possible profiles of people who would do this.

Wonder if he was fired while she was away with the girls for 6 weeks?

"Chris Watts had been an Anadarko employee but is no longer employed by the company, they tell @JennKovaleski. Unclear when that decision was made."

Something keeps lingering in my head as this seems to be slowly coming together.

His words:
" It wasn't an argument it was an emotional conversation. I'll leave it at that."

So he has confessed. He was lying.

Why on earth would you plant the seed in investigators minds that you had some kind of disagreement with your family who is dead at your hands.

He could have said he woke up, she was sleeping, he went to work, period.

What was he playing at here? Did he slip up because they obviously did fight?

Or was he trying to throw out the idea that she was emotionally upset and ran off with the girls? It seems like a major slip up to me, not thought out, jmo.

I just don't get it but thank God I'm not a killer so why would I. Any thoughts?

Yes, that was my only hope they were still alive because I couldn't (and still can't) understand why he admitted this.

<modsnip - removed off topic quoted post>

As far as that FB photo of Shanann's...(if you scroll down a bit) she explained the girls were playing and put a "Twister" plastic mat on the doll as it was "...too hot.." , or, "...too sunny out..."

In retrospect it's horrifying. It's possible she uploaded it as a silent cry for help. I have a feeling she was starting to see him for what he was long before this. :(
The beach/swimming photo of one of her daughters' has a sad description as well.
Shanann sounded frightened... and although she didn't name CW in the post--- I wonder if his behavior had escalated ?
One doesn't be sweet and kind to their family--- then turn suddenly and murder them.
Imo; there had to be some signs.
I'm guessing there was a great amount of premeditation.

And do not believe anyone if they say he was always nice ; or was fine around them.
People can be pleasant around their extended family, and turn into monsters in private !

They put seals on cases or gag orders, but over time and especially during the proceedings, things come out. I am sure they are still heavily investigating and will be for a long time, so its wise to seal the case in my opinion. (although I want to know now). However, if you wait, and are willing to follow sometimes for a year or more, you will get the answers. IMHO
Yes, the records are often sealed and for a number of reasons - such as the defendant is under threat, the defendent is actively assisting law enforcement, or there are witnesses that may not come forward if the records remain in public view. I'm not saying this is the case here at all, but if there is a sex offense against a child they are almost always sealed, but my guess is it is to get him to further open up or get another witness to talk.

Yes he pretty much hung himself with that one statement. Scary odd!

They said it was just sealed while they finalize charges and should be unsealed by Monday. Doesn't sound like they intend to have the whole case sealed.

It never says!
I did some further digging into the arrest records the Daily Mail referenced. The arrest records in NC for Shannon Watts that were publically available without going through FOIA was someone with the same legal name but the date of birth was off by six years, so not this Shannon. There were some records for a Chris Watts but without a DOB for him it could be anyone.

Well.....I’m not a pro, but when you leave for work at 5:15 am, and you don’t have a job...you might set off a red flag to LE. :)
