I know. The show 20/20 reported on a nationwide investigation that found at least 50 murders allegedly committed since 2012 by people who at the time were under orders to wear electronically monitored ankle bracelets. In some cases, authorities failed to appropriately monitor people wearing ankle bracelets or to respond to alerts set off by the electronic devices.

The program features interviews with Rafael Zaldivar, the father of a young man who was killed in Orange County, Florida, by someone wearing a device; and Bill Cregg, who was the first to arrive on the scene of a murder in Syracuse, New York, by a man who had removed his device.

Drive himself close to a border, find a way to bypass the GPS on the monitor, swap vehicles and he's off in Mexico or Ecuador, never to be found again..

Thanks for this, I was confused by the Judge's earlier statements agreeing with the prosecution evidence. Then allowing him to post bail. Your answer makes sense of the contrast.

Do you think he has the financial resources? I halfway thought he may have committed most of his cash to his attorneys. Perhaps his Mom will post the equity in her home, like Terri Horman's parents did to pay for her very expensive defense attorney?

I do have concern that BM will pull a Fotis before trial. BM previously told SM that they would all be taken care of (i.e., earlier suicide threats). MOO

He'll be out on bail for the entire trial. Why would he kill himself now? He's got plenty of time to decide whether to even attend the trial and if he does, he'll have months to see how it's proceeding. Unless LE are on his tail the entire time, which I doubt. If that were the case and he saw no way out? Then and only then would he off himself, imo.
I'd hate that. I want him to suffer. And you know what? I think he'd actually find a way to thrive in prison.
He's good at manipulating people. He wouldn't make it in NY or Texas but he might in CO. I hope to see the day he has to find out.

I listened to Chris today on The Interview Room. He's convinced Barry is a flight risk and perhaps even a danger to certain witnesses. He's also convinced Barry will try and "cheat the monitoring system" at some point during the eight month's he is free in society.

I can see why Chris feels that way, Barry doesn't think rules apply to him. I actually get a warm, fuzzy, feeling thinking about Barry doing something stupid and his bail being revoked. Time will tell.

He absolutely pushes every boundary, openly defying the judge in the courtroom over and over, leading to so many very public admonishments.

I absolutely agree he is a danger to witnesses and anyone he feels went against him, but I don’t think he will run. His arrogance shows me he thinks he’s getting away with everything and he is going to rub it in everyone’s face any way he can. I too hope he tries to break the rules and lands himself right back inside. He has seemingly copied much of Fotis Dulos MO based on the evidence presented thus far, why stop now…

So is BM still allowed to hunt with traps?

My prediction:
BM's supporters/family/friends will cover whatever cash he's missing to make bail
BMs supporters/family/friends will cover the cost of his accomodations
BM's supporters/family/friends will do fund raisers along the lines of Barry Is Innocent to keep the money coming in to support him because no one will hire him

And I wonder. How many friends does BM really have that have the endless resources to sustain this?

That^^^ is why releasing the AA is so damn important. Close family and long time best friends will Ride or Die with a defendant. But many others will dropout if they read a detailed 'probable cause' document, in black and white.

If someone believes their friend or neighbour is innocent and being falsely accused of murder and railroaded by crooked DA's---they are going to be supportive and all that.

But if evidence starts leaking out making them appear guilty as charged, a lot of that prior support drops off. I think we may see that here.

And I don't see any reason for him to move or touch the remains because so far his plan has worked quite well. I do believe he successfully hid her to the extent she will never be recovered.

BM is already under a protection order the governs his relationship with his daughters and how he's to treat them. The order was filed without the request of the daughters.

I feel like the daughters are going to be in a vulnerable position---especially the youngest.

And I don't think the girls will be able to 'enforce' the protection order because he will just do whatever he wants in their relationship and who will report that?

I think we will learn more about the cash bail conditions when he actually posts bail. Other than being ordered not to leave the county, I did not hear if BM has a curfew or other typical conditions. I agree that BM just might be his worst enemy and end up forfeiting the $500K and finding himself back in county lock up. MOO

I thought someone said he was going to have an ankle bracelet? Is that true? I hope they are tracking him.

So, mixed emotions... but he is going to trial. So that is great! Just could have done without that bond. I was always under the impression there is no bond with 1st degree, but obviously had that completely wrong.
BTW, while Judge Murphy outlined the case against him, BM turned white as a sheet. It hit him, i think... A little at least...

As to the bolded---best thing I heard all day....well besides Durst being GUILTY on all charges and Barry set for Murder 1 Trial.

or...the Karma could be Suzanne wants Barry free (her money or not, whatever it takes ) to run his mouth, God knows he's his own worst enemy.

Kinda feel the same, in a cell he is hidden and protected from the looks/stares, whispered comments, social media etc - out in the community he isn't - literally the eyes of the world will be on him - don't think this is the 'win' he could think it is and I think (hope) he will do something to trip himself up.

He's got 8 months, at least, to live it up. Now why would he do that.

Just like Dr. Jeffrey McDonald....he lived it up too after he killed his family. But in the end....the jury was paying very close attention to the evidence...not the noise and distractions. I don't think time will be on Barry's side here. If it went to trial today...sure, that 50-50 shot looks about right.. But Barry's life was a facade before this. Now the facade is lifted..and Barry has to live in a bubble for 8 months...while the state continues building and refining its case. All the while, Barry has to worry about Suzanne being found...and he won't be tooling around with his bobcat...who would hire him? Barry has nowhere to hide, unless he bolts in the middle of the night. Lets not forget his personality and character traits...Barry is likely to have a confrontation or two out in public....he can't change who he is. Will he stay with his daughters and screw up their relationships with others? My guess is that Barry will find a gullible, lonely female...jailhouse wife type, for companionship and a place to live....while the clock is ticking.

I wonder how long before the defense begins motioning the court for permission for BM to be allowed to travel to neighboring counties-- as well as across the state to work. BM and his bobcat have places to go and people to see! They will argue that BM should not be prevented from earning a living and that he's been pushing dirt for 35 + years with limited other skills. Just another reason why one hates to see 1st-degree murder defendants allowed release on bail. MOO

Thinking the same thing...They want Barry out of Chaffee County, imo. Don't be surprised that they cook up some request to relocate him so that he can engage in gainful employment which will be denied to him in Chaffee County. All a ruse to get Barry "out of sight....out of mind"....

Yeah, I get the defense bs but I'm sure the prosecutors know what they're talking about. I mean, I don't think they'd throw out a 3m dollar figure for nothing. I estimated at least 2m but I don't doubt there's a lot more.
I got to Lauren's video late but do you know if the defense argued how they knew he was that flush and ask for higher bond? The judge didn't buy it from a tweet I saw, is that correct?
I thought the whole idea of bail/bond is to make sure the defendant will in fact show up for trial. If someone has 3m (I'll suppose that's true), what's 500k when it comes to taking off? In South America, 2.5m goes a long way.
Let's say he already has a contact in Mexico who can get him a fake passport. He hires a private jet. Done. On to Brazil or Argentina or wherever. He could make his first stop to the US Virgin Islands where he wouldn't need a passport - then yada yada.
There are too many possibilities for me to take it for granted that he couldn't get out if he wanted to.
If I were ever in a position of facing ANY jail time, I'd easily find a way to disappear - with or without a ankle monitor and I have less than a third of his money.
Have his assets been frozen? Are they even in US banks?
I appreciate that this will come out in discovery but it burns my arse that he's allowed to roam free, yet again.

One question will be how much control Barry actually has, legally, over those assets while he is out on bail? He is still not a free man. Likewise, Suzanne is still legally "missing"...she hasn't been declared "dead" and I am wondering if her estate has to be settled before all of those assets are Barry's?

What a rollercoaster this hearing has been.
The most important thing is that BM is bounded over for trial on the charges of Murder 1 and tempering with SM’s body. I wonder what will become of the charges of trying to influence a civil servant?

He will get out of jail for now, and has to face the storm of the information coming out by releasing the AA. That will be at least uncomfortable in his day to day life.

I too agree with those who noted his support will dwindle after that, because 1,2,3 strange things can be explained, but if it becomes too many, it will get harder to believe in him. IMO the AA will open many people’s eyes.

There is also the fact that a lot of people doesn’t understands what a partial DNA match is and no doubt, that will be explained by an expert witness at the trial. This was a missed chance by the prosecution team and well played by the defense to make the prosecution difficult to present all of their evidence and witnesses proposed before the hearing.
BM’s defense team seams worth their money so far.

I don’t think we need to worry. At the trial real experts will testify, not simply LE officers who read the experts’ report. The defense team can’t play the same game of asking questions of the wrong person for too long as the real experts will testify to help interpret their own report.

I do have faith that in the meantime BM will be BM and will say and do things which will come back to bite him. 8 months is a long time.

Haven’t posted here in a while but I’ve been following daily. I’m at a loss for words as to the bond arrangement. I fear this will end up being a big mistake, as I honestly don’t think that Barry will make it to any trial because I don’t think he will either be a) in the country or b) alive. I know that he’s had to surrender his passport, but I wouldn’t put it past him to find a way out. He’s already been in jail, he knows prison will be worse and he won’t want to spend another second in confinement.

How on earth the judge felt that bond was acceptable, given the knowledge that he was likely going to flee before he was arrested, is beyond me.

I also feel that once we have read the AA, we will be further shocked at the bond decision.

--- does it prohibit BM from leaving Chaffee County (w'out ct's permission)?

Iirc I've seen conflicting tweets.

From what I have read, the ankle bracelet will alert authorities if BM leaves Chaffee County ... so I would imagine that if there is a reason that he must leave the county, his attorneys will have to get him special and specific permission to do so.


The ruling stipulates that Barry must attend every hearing, wear an ankle monitor that alerts authorities if he leaves Chaffee County, and relinquish his passport and firearms.
