Ah I goofed as well, was thinking of younger daughter, when I guessed currently aged 16. MM1 is obviously older but I don't know exactly. Your guess of her being college sophomore/20ish in 2018, meaning 24ish today, is a reasonable one.
SM’s sister MB said that about her being a Sophomore in a YouTube interview with one of the Profiling Evil hosts ( former host now ) and it just stuck in my head.
I see no reason not to believe the cousin about this being told to him in 2012.
He just made it very confusing by saying the Dr.said she couldn’t have ANOTHER child instead of ANY children.

I find this a blind perspective of the relationship. SM has described BM as a narcissist and if one understands the nature of a relationship with a narcissist they would understand how BM would never make statements about his spouse that he sees as an extension of himself. Hence SM's recorded allegations of being told what to wear, say, think, etc. And when BM did speak about SM's use of alcohol or medical cannabis, he blamed it on cancer. MOO
Blind to what we probably won’t hear at trial unless prosecution is heck bent on losing in my opinion.

Oh man was my math off lol. Thanks for catching that.

I was thinking 2012 was 20 years ago. But even that wouldn’t be the age of the firstborn MM1. I believe she was a college sophomore in 2018 when BM and SM moved to Colorado.
MM2 graduated high school last year so she’s older than 16.
SM always said they were both her Miracles.
Agree. I think they married with the understanding that SM as told her chances of having children were very slim. The same plays to SM's grievance list of BM's self- talk of sex and having babies (that BM attributed to Agent Grusing of him talking to a figment chip in his hand)?!!

Truly not all elements of any relationship make it to a murder trial! I think OP missed the point. JMO

He was drafted in the 42nd round of the draft, right after high school. I'm not sure how it worked in the 80s, but each team has multiple farm teams, ranging from A (lowest) to AAA (highest).

Barry played in some independent rookie league, which is below that.

He didn't last long, and his numbers were bad, (albeit with a small sample size).
OK, Thank you. Beneath the A league farm team definitely sounds like the basement to me. He knew he was done so he left and became proficient at sitting on his duff behind the skid steer. But it beats sitting on the bench, right?...

And I'm not saying that does not take talent having attended competitions of skilled heavy equipment operators that often include generations of skilled operators.

Personally I think the law is an 🤬🤬🤬 in this area. It is indeed the case that DV is not predictive of whether you will be murdered or not. Murder of women and children in domestic context remains rare thank goodness.

But given a domestic murder (i.e a much smaller data set), you will find probative risk factors like attempt to leave the relationship, abusive behaviours, firearms etc

So the ruling is correct under current law IMO, but this is an area needing urgent reform. Otherwise we are so often ignoring the elephant in the room
^^RSBM

Respectfully, I think the Court's decision was not based on the subject (i.e., DM) but based on the rules of evidence and hearsay.

It's unfortunate we didn't have live tweeting during the motions trial. Nonetheless, if we ever get complete access to the court filings, I'm sure the judge's decision will be written in the court order. MOO

I don't know what 'pioneer league' (or anything else on there, for that matter) means but I'll link his record for the one year, 1987, he played for the Blue Jays Org.

So perhaps he sees himself as God's agent? Sounds pretty unbelievable, but hey, this is Barry we're talking about.

The Morphew's faith was a big part of their life and marriage as verified in AA and has been discussed frequently by those following this case.

When I read BMs statement that he told Suzanne when discussing marriage that he is a godly man and marriage is for life, I thought...who talks like that? Specifically calling himself a godly man. Yes, that's something a Christian hopes to become but it is a description that we would not make of ourself but would hope others would describe us as being.

Regarding him holding her accountable to submit to him as his wife he seemed to conveniently neglect his even higher calling to love her as Christ loved the church meaning a willingness to love her to the extent he would give his life for her. Quite the opposite of the act he is accused of commiting.

Seems when he spoke of Christianity he did so using platitudes that suited him.

I hope Barry comes forward with the truth of what happened Saturday May 9th and reveals the location of Suzanne's body. It would be best for all who know and love the Morphew family, including him. I believe it would bring healing that only comes with the truth.

There will be a pre-trial fight over the admissibility of the texts IMO. They're pretty classic hearsay, so the prosecution is going to have to find exceptions (present sense impression?) to get some of them in.

Correct..IMO...the next group of scheduled hearings in this matter will likely be dealing with some of these admissibility issues.

And the continuing issue of discovey violations by the state.

Has the state turned over the victim's range rover and icloud info to the defense yet? I think the 14 days is running out?

Did any reporters like LS give a summary of the last proceedings that went until like 1830? I have not heard what was going on in the Court that kept them so late?

BIB

Agreed but that is my point.

I agree with the decision based on general principles of evidence as applied by the Judge.

But it leads to the perverse result that a women's warnings are ignored after she has been silenced, because her mode of warning does not fit with long established precedent, and the ways that the law believes probative out of court statements are made.

This is why I'd like to see law reform in the context of domestic murders where the victim gave warnings, but is prevented from testifying by her own murder. After all, a warning made to a trusted confidant is likely to be both reliable (especially in a text where we have the victims own words) and probative.

Furthermore, in the current case, the recipient of the hearsay comments took specific actions with the victim in reliance.

It's unfortunate we didn't have live tweeting during the motions trial. Nonetheless, if we ever get complete access to the court filings, I'm sure the judge's decision will be written in the court order. MOO

I believe the relevant case law was cited in an article in a previous thread - i will try to look back tomorrow.

Isn't a "walk-on" position what happens when you don't get recruited?

My understanding is that BM passed on playing college sports because he sought an opportunity to go pro. I understood BM ended up on the 2nd team because he didn't make the A squad he was recruited for. He didn't perform at the expected level and was sent to the basement. Many players I've followed-- mostly pitchers get called up from the practice league to the pros. IMO, BM likely lost his spot or was soon to lose his spot on the roster.

Hey @MassGuy --need you to clarify.

I believe under NCAA rules at that time anyone who played professional sports at any level would be inegibile to play any NCAA sports...IMO.

I think you missed the part where midway into a court hearing, the defense falsely accused a named individual of illegally recording the court proceedings via WebEx and streaming the hearing live on his YT, resulting in the Judge clearing the courtroom and prohibiting reporters and spectators from re-entering the courtroom unless they were free of all electronics on their person. Needless to say, news coverage of the proceedings has been severely hampered ever since. So the answer to your question is no, not to the standard we came to rely on.

... I thought they got together when they were both at Perdue ...

So far nobody can sufficiently explain away why Barry lied about where he was when he got the call that Suzanne was missing.
I honestly think that he was afraid to say he was back at the hotel because the whole alibi is prefaced on the fact that he had to get up there early on Mother’s Day to work on this important job. If he said he was lounging around the hotel, the next question would be, “Well why did you have to go there in the first place, leaving your wife alone on Mother’s Day?”
He was caught either way.

Reckon there is a possibility we could interest The Diesel Brothers into searching a couple of mines for Suzanne? They are the guys who located what may be Susan Powell's remains in a mine shaft. Apparently, Josh Powell piled wood on top of the mine and ignited a fire so it would collapse. The mine is about 85 miles from Susan's home. It's about 30 miles from where Josh said he camped with his boys.

These guys are not really brothers but are good friends who reside in Utah.

That would be awesome if they could search the mines as I think she is down one of them.

I would even donate to help them with costs :)

We do know that mines have been searched, to include one just before the prelim (Walker mentioned it).

I'd love to know the full extent of the searches here, especially as far as Necrosearch has been involved.

Do we know where exactly he was when he texted that? Could he have already been there and the text was a cover of sorts? I thought Suzanne's last communication was at 2:30ish? I believe that text was sent at 2:38. I could easily have my times mixed up. In one of his statements to LE (just a couple of pages back) I thought he said he was home at 2:30.
Giving her a heads up doesn't make much sense either way, imo. He wasn't far away - just go home and eat your damn 'veggie' soup, if there was a veggie soup.
Then there was that pesky rotting corpse of turkey to attend to.
I also wonder if that text was sent with LE in mind. I think he knew already that they would be reading his texts after she went missing.

Absolutely. He knew that his phone was being monitored, as he either had it in airplane mode or off when he and SD had that Valentines getaway.

He was 3-1/2 years older than she was. His DOB is 10/17/1967 and hers is 4/30/1971.

BM was out of high school and recruited by Toronto Blue Jays farm team by the time SM entered her sophomore year of high school. Those are substantially different phases of life. He: launched. Her: three years from launch.
My husband is 3 and a half years older than me and we are from the very same era!
