IMO, it was only JL's identity that was unknown until November whereas investigators clearly had knowledge of SM cellular/data forensics in August obtained by search warrants. Reportedly, both SM and JL's phones have never been recovered.
You are correct (of course) - and JL says his was a "work phone" which he wiped, returned to work and had replaced - I want to say it was very soon after he found out Suzanne was missing (and I can't remember what day that was - I can't believe he had to find out from other people, still SMH).
On another topic:
And while I agree that VFF should not have access to tranq darts, Barry is a criminal. I believe his character is such that he is constantly opportunistic and willing to bend/break rules (which is why the original wall in Broomfield did not meet inspection and why he paid workers under the table, IMO).
Still, it's entirely possible the darts came from Indiana/deer farm. However, if it was swiped from supplies at fire camp or at a fire house, that gives me an explanation for why all the firefighters (volunteer or not) were banned from the search. I bet many of the firefighters were also EMT's and some surely had wildlife management certificates (often gained at the same time as wildfire management certification).
Barry may have been so friendly with a FF and showed a picture of that mountain lion that was seen near his place (by baiting it) that someone purloined a pack for him. It would not be the first time, IME, that a FF (or LE) helped out a friend.
I don't think we'll find out until trial. But the boxes of darts are supposed to have serial numbers, so if that was part of the recovered trash, they'll know where it came from.
Oh - and I sure do wish we knew how much trash was recovered. I bet LE was in touch with HIE by Monday afternoon...but they wouldn't have known about Men's Wearhouse until they got the GPS unit either from the truck or the GPS data from his phone.
