Question for any experts on this particular type of controlled substance: Wouldn't a volunteer firefighter who was trained in the handling and use of dart tranquilizers also have been trained in the proper disposal of such material? That volunteer dept he was connected to...if they had these materials on site, under lock and key I would assume...would have included disposal procedures...sort of like medical offices and used hypodermic needles, for example. If that is the case...odd that Barry, a volunteer Fireman would simply dump it in a dumpster 3 hours from home....no?
VFF unlikely to have or have access to T Darts at all. Wildlife would be called if needed.
MOO they came from somewhere else, old deer farm supplies more likely.

Thanks...putting this to bed. You have a much better handle on this than most....I just am clueless how they would know a call/text/ whatever... ended abruptly and then have no idea of the number/address it went to. Obviously they had no idea studying the history of the device she used what his number was or who he was. This technology is moving way too fast for me...
Exactly why I'm fascinated and in awe of the FBI here and their ability to extract and map out this data! (They'll be my favorite witnesses at trial)!

I doubt that LE will allow Barry to define Suzanne's normal biking routes....they will undoubtedly correlate with his dumping habits. It will, OTOH, be interesting to find out what the neighbors normally saw of Suzanne on her bike.. They would know the routes and directions to some extent.

We already have Miles on LE bodycam, from the prelim, saying that Suzanne did not ride her bike in the neighborhood or on the mountain trails. She put her bike in her RR and went to flatter trails (he named a park i Salida as the specific place where she biked on flat land). Suzanne was new to biking and it's unlikely she "biked every day" as Barry said. Miles said she always took her phone, so I bet she wanted a place where there was actually phone service.

And an RR does hold a bike easily with its back seat down.

This makes perfect sense to me, for many reasons (safety being one of them) but also getting away from the house/neighborhood to visit an actual town.

Most of the houses in that little neighborhood were separate from each other and several were AirBnB style rentals.

So I don't think the neighbors knew her routes and directions very well. I think Miles was quite close to the family and knew way more about Suzanne and her biking habits than the neighbors.

Respectfully, longtime followers since May are recalling statements by MG citing BM working late at the river build site Friday (aka beach house) and witness Brandon allegedly hearing equipment noise sometime during the weekend. Not recalling it more recently reported doesn't mean it did not happen.
Could be...I did not recall MG saying there was late work on Friday but she was rather more open early on before she shut down the interviews and FB chatting...was that the night he picked up pizza at Moonlight pizza?

Yes. I do recall an MG mention of work on Friday night. Interesting.

The other reason moght be to back the trailer around the north side, the hot tub side.
The trailer and Bobcat were parked there I believe when house was locked down.
If he parked the trailer there in the forst place

I think you'll find from various photos in media that the north side trailer pull-out was designed specifically for storage of the bobcat, trailers, etc. where evergreen trees were also planted to shield the same from view. Perhaps similar is noted in the Monarch Estates HOA. MOO

I don't recall it being reported that he was at the river property Friday or Saturday night. The "beach" was really a small notch into the property where someone could pull up kayaks from the river when the water is low and probably fills with water when the water is high. He was there Saturday morning as he and MG both relayed to the investigators. He may have been there Friday during the day, but I don't recall off the top of my head if that was part of the info relayed in the preliminaries so far.
When the neighbor lady, Mary B, heard machinery running about 11 pm either Friday night or Saturday night. When she turned her outside light off, the noise stopped.

This article from Crime Online says it was Saturday night. I wonder what he was doing there so late. Could he have just buried Suzanne maybe?

Oh look everybody, he's wearing his wedding ring!

There has been a ton of discussion about events just prior to, during and following Suzanne's disappearance as part of the state's case. I am also interested in learning about actual activities at the earliest known time which supports Barry's planning of the deed. If as is thought, he has been planning this for more than 5 minutes...then there should be some activity documented, video in stores...internet searches, etc...which connects him to the disappearance for days in advance, for example. IOW, when and how does LE believe he actually plotted the deed?

IMO, it was only JL's identity that was unknown until November whereas investigators clearly had knowledge of SM cellular/data forensics in August obtained by search warrants. Reportedly, both SM and JL's phones have never been recovered.

You are correct (of course) - and JL says his was a "work phone" which he wiped, returned to work and had replaced - I want to say it was very soon after he found out Suzanne was missing (and I can't remember what day that was - I can't believe he had to find out from other people, still SMH).

On another topic:

And while I agree that VFF should not have access to tranq darts, Barry is a criminal. I believe his character is such that he is constantly opportunistic and willing to bend/break rules (which is why the original wall in Broomfield did not meet inspection and why he paid workers under the table, IMO).

Still, it's entirely possible the darts came from Indiana/deer farm. However, if it was swiped from supplies at fire camp or at a fire house, that gives me an explanation for why all the firefighters (volunteer or not) were banned from the search. I bet many of the firefighters were also EMT's and some surely had wildlife management certificates (often gained at the same time as wildfire management certification).

Barry may have been so friendly with a FF and showed a picture of that mountain lion that was seen near his place (by baiting it) that someone purloined a pack for him. It would not be the first time, IME, that a FF (or LE) helped out a friend.

I don't think we'll find out until trial. But the boxes of darts are supposed to have serial numbers, so if that was part of the recovered trash, they'll know where it came from.

Oh - and I sure do wish we knew how much trash was recovered. I bet LE was in touch with HIE by Monday afternoon...but they wouldn't have known about Men's Wearhouse until they got the GPS unit either from the truck or the GPS data from his phone.

I don't have FB and no knowledge of what may have been cited in social media. However, MG did give interviews to LS/ Fox21 that are in the media thread.

Considering what was going on in the marriage, a crime of passion would be a very reasonable scenario.

Despite that, he’s charged with first degree murder.

As we haven’t heard of any evidence of premeditation at this point, it must be coming in a few days. There’s got to be something there; the only question is in what form.

And then we have these bikes. Daughters’? This photo was taken at the Morphew home on Tuesday, May 12th. This article also has good shots of the dig site in Salida.

I don't think it was ever established who these bikes belonged to. May have been searchers. Note they are on a hitch rack attached to a Subaru. I remember spending hours researching possible frames that look like them.

Didn't an internet search get mentioned already? It's so hard to keep track without a prelim transcript.

It's going to be a difficult question that is up to the jury to decide, of course - because even with things like the tranq darts, if legally obtained in Indiana, he can just claim he had them on hand for mountain lions (Andy Moorman says an LEO told him he'd seen one near the house and that was during the first week of Suzanne being missing).

The fact that he organizes a Sunday trip to Broomfield when job starts Monday is probably not going to convince everyone. The fact that he organized a trip for MM2 to be away for several days...probably not completely convincing either.

I believe the defense will try to show that Barry had just found out about the affair (by spying on Suzanne's phone) and acted in the heat of passion. I truly do hope there are internet searches (about how to reset the truck GPS, for example). But if Barry had a burner phone...that may not be recoverable.

I also wonder how many women friends Barry had (you know, it was "good for business" according to Suzanne's grievance list) and therefore, opportunities to just sign on to their wifi, if they were friendly enough. I can picture that.

I'm very interested in what others think might trip him up, in terms of pre-planning. Can't wait until Monday.

‘I’m not the other woman’: Second contractor speaks out about Suzanne Morphew investigation | FOX21 News Colorado

And, she said, Barry’s behavior that weekend had seemed strange.

Barry had worked on the beach site Friday evening,” Gentile said. “Saturday, he had asked me to clean it up and rake it out, because we were going to bring it out to level – so it would be a beach sand and not muck.”

He was acting really weird about [the beach area], I was like Barry what’s up,” Gentile said. “He seemed stressed. He definitely seemed weird on Saturday.”

And, although Gentile had agreed to work in that area for the day, she said Barry dismissed her from the job early – at 11 a.m.

“He said that he had to go make the wife happy – do some hiking or biking,” she said. “And I found out, like, later that day that he was in town all day.”

Gentile said she heard Barry was out shopping by himself.

"Daughter picks up CL's phone and discovers ...." could she have tipped off BM about his wife and her Dad or someone she told do so???
Or maybe she told her mother.

I don't know what BM might have learned about the affair, but I feel like by the time the events of Saturday afternoon unfolded...he arrived home, she was sunbathing, communicating with JL, he knew about the communication between them by then (surprising her and able to see her phone) if not sooner... The Facebook codes being changed and the 20 something friend requests mostly to males indicates to me he was trying to find out more about who she was communicating with if he didn't already know or suspect.

I also think BM's comment "no one would stray from an angel like SM" sounded sarcastic...meaning SM is no Angel...she was having an affair.

What exactly was he doing at the beach site, and when was he there, Friday or Saturday night.

I wonder if he was there Friday night working. If I recall, the job he was primarily doing was laying and packing the dirt that the cement foundation was poured on. I believe that job had to be completed by Sunday so the inspection could occur Monday and the project could proceed with the concrete being poured.

So maybe what he was doing was finishing that work. We know he and MG quit early on Saturday when MG expected to work a full day. And the concrete was poured, so the project must have kept moving forward.

So I wonder if this wasn’t part of BM’s premeditation, doing work on Friday so he’s have his afternoon on Saturday free.

Great point towards premeditation, as Suzanne was alive at that point no reason to act "weird"!

Anywhere in Utah is at least 4 hours from Gunnison, and more from Salida/Maysville. I have not seen anything in the timeline about the girls contacting their Mom for Mother’s Day. I see Barry calling Mallory at 12:06 pm to inquire if they had heard from Suzanne. They had not. It appears that they did not get home before 6 pm, because MH and his father were the only ones looking for Suzanne at the house. M&M were not there yet. I wonder if they ever intended to come home and spend the day. It doesn’t seem like they packed up and left when they knew at noon that no one had heard from Suzanne.

I would like to see the tweets to see how the girls attempted to contact Suzanne, but there’s this:

The first witness called to the stand was Commander Alex Walker with the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office, who outlined the beginning of the missing persons case. Walker said Morphew’s daughter, Mallory, was unable to get a hold of her mother to wish her a happy Mother’s Day.

What we have from the prelim and approved sources is that the daughter told her dad's brother and her own brother. No other telling was mentioned. Anything is possible regarding one of those people contacting Barry, but I think we'd have heard about that. Maybe it'll come out next week.

If that did happen, then JL was apparently in the dark about it. They made it sound at the prelim that he didn't know anyone was onto him until LE contacted him.

Daughter picked up JL's phone (I don't know who CL is), was going to order pizza, saw some messages. I also can't remember when exactly that happened.
