Also, LS saying that she “can’t talk about it” strikes me as she has had to sign a non disclosure agreement or confidentiality agreement or something along those lines.

Not sure why she’d have to do that but that is what it feels like to me.
I noticed CM made 2 statements about LS.
She’s not allowed to talk about it and She can’t talk about it.

What if in his desperation Andy illegally dug up that tree on his own and found his dead sister? Can you imagine? This is where we are on this. I don’t know what LE is thinking.
I do not think he should do this and she most likely isn’t there. But my point is, why are we at this place? It’s not right.

I was asked by a ?new member as to what I was talking about when I mentioned the *Breaking News* thread we have here at Websleuths.

I'm also putting the answer on this thread here as many are new and not familiar with going to a thread, and then on the upper right of the thread clicking "watch" so that they can either be notified by email, or notified through coming into the site through their *subscribed/watched* threads which is what I do each day as I follow so many.

Here is the *breaking news* thread to *watch* and get notifications from (see screenshot).

HTH more than the person that asked me...

***BREAKING NEWS!*** (Link to existing WS thread required) *NO DISCUSSION*

ETA: Follow up for new member question also - if you are busy in real life/cannot follow entire thread and want daily updates, (e.g. not just when an arrest in a major case here) go to the first post on most threads for such and you will find a "MEDIA/MAPS ONLY" thread that you can also sign up for notifications or daily viewing which might be very quick. e.g. for this case it is at CO - CO - Suzanne Morphew, 49, Chaffee County, 10 May 2020 , MEDIA,MAPS,TIMELINE *NO DISCUSSION*

I wonder if CBI would take over an investigation? I really do think something is going on here - just not sure what.

Good use of the TN fund to pay for an evidence scene process.

IMO - All handlers I know of working dogs (HRD, SAR-live find) work at the request of LE ONLY, period. There’s a reason LE trusts them and has a working relationship with them.
Those that have been around long enough in the working dog community remember the case of dog handler Sandra Anderson and how this caused LE everywhere to really take a look at their resources. This case was such a shame for the working dog community. An Eagle-Eyed Investigation?

IMO Not all handlers and dogs are created equal. They’re just not. Some handlers who do not have a relationship with LE will reach out to family members of this missing and say “hey, I’m here to help but the Sheriff won’t let me’. Family in return get’s very upset because they don’t understand. They don’t understand why they can’t SEE any action. These folks show up on the sidelines of search areas sometimes and you can spot them a mile away – large flashy decals on their vehicles, as an example. They also overstate their dogs abilities. They may work alone or on an unproven team that get’s together here and there, and does the bare minimum to keep certs active. Sometimes they don’t even have them. Sometimes they desperately want to be part of the action. Now, before anyone jumps on my comments here – I am not saying that’s the case here. We don’t know, regardless of what some hosts say. Also, many handlers will not speak to the media.

The only example I can think of and it’s my opinion. Volunteer search for a presumed murder victim - dog indicated on disturbed dirt. LE comes out and actually started to dig, nothing. Then the dog indicated on another area before LE will dig, they call in their trusted handler who request NOT to know any areas of interest and wants to come in blind and work his dog and requests everyone stay on the sidelines (no way would he allow a non team member or non LE follow him around with his dog while they are working). His dog does not alert, at all. The detective tells him now the other handler is now saying that it must have been a false alert because of buried vegetation that was given off methane gas. Detective wants to know what he thinks of that – handler says no clue, I can only speak for my own dog. Don’t know that dog, don’t know that handler.

The situation that is playing out right now is sad and one that I was afraid of. I never believed LE was going to give any investigation areas of interest for AM to search. I anticipated tension would happen. I don’t at all believe there’s any be-hind-the-scenes collaboration between AM, LE and the PE guys. We are not watching a performance that will hopefully catch the bad guy off guard. I don’t believe there’s any sort of coverup, the mountains don’t hold secrets, there’s no puppet master people are afraid of or powerful people that are preventing local LE, CBI and the FBI from doing their jobs. IMO

I feel so bad for AM right now. I cannot stress that enough.
Thank you. I think that answers my earlier questions. I was wondering if having another person there may have affected the dog's ability to make an accurate hit.

I've also read that the handler's ability is just as important when it comes to the dog's ability.

I've seen videos of dogs being tested to see how well they do in finding human remains. In one video, the examiner asked the handler how confident the handler was in the dog alerting on human remains every time. The handler said 100% and the dog had a high success rate.

After the test the examiner informed the handler that the dog failed the test. Every spot it alerted to was animal remains, and it missed every area it was supposed to alert on.

I think AM and the PE guys were very hopeful. Just before the search started they showed a picture of the area of interest at the beach site. They pointed out there was an anomaly in the rock placements and this was a significant area of interest.

And then, amazingly, three days into the search the dogs alert in that same location. It just seemed too good to be true. I think it's true that they may have sensed the tension and anticipation.

AM put so much time and energy into this search. I hope he's not too disappointed. They covered a lot of ground and may have generated some valuable leads. He should never have been put in this position in the first place.

The latest PE has left me confused and frustrated. I can easily say I don't know what all this means.

I do think it's all coming together, though. It may not seem logical or make sense to me, but I must have faith that there is method to the madness.

I have a really difficult time believing BM could be part of some big conspiracy. I just don't think he's got much to offer other than nice toys. Additionally, I think his intelligence level hovers around ~low normal. He may think he's Big Man On Campus. That doesn't make it so. Plus, pesky Occam says the simple solution is usually the right solution. So, this is yet another Spousal Murder Theatre episode, driven by what all of those seem to be driven by: Greed and seeing murder as a better solution than a divorce.

MOO

I agree. And I do think the murder was $$ driven but not with some money laundering or drug running schemes just your plain old garden variety greed of not wanting to share the family fortune through divorce.

I have seen it said a few times here that by the first day of the search CCSO had pulled back and weren’t doing as promised in support of the search. All I can find of their promise is this, in the media thread:

NEW: Sheriff John Spezze sent a press release at 9:47 p.m. Thursday night. This update comes after FOX21’s Lauren Scharf has asked multiple times about the upcoming search effort:

“As part of this investigation numerous searches were conducted however Suzanne has yet to be located.

Andrew Moorman, brother of Suzanne Morphew, is organizing an independent search in the area of Suzanne’s disappearance. This effort will begin on September 24th and continue for the next several days. Andrew will be leading several hundred volunteer searchers from various towns and states in his effort to find his sister.

The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation want to support this effort. Although our team is unable to coordinate and lead this effort due to liability issues we want to support this effort in several different ways. We certainly appreciate this huge undertaking and want to offer support to facilitate their efforts.

We will be staffing our command post with liaison personnel to assist Moorman search members. Our SAR units will be on hand to assist with Moorman search team accountability and other search team coordination issues. Our crime scene team will be available to document and collect any evidence if found. We will have both Chaffee County and CBI case Agents on hand in this endeavor as well.

As with any major undertaking it takes many different resources to complete a task and we once again appreciate the Moorman Search effort and its many volunteers.”

What was the pulling back?

Thanks

Hundreds of very unhappy comments about LE , they must be feeling the heat now
Wow. Just read a couple dozen comments. Very few are in support of LE.

This is just a shame. Perception matters, like it or not. Fair or not. True or not. And the perception this morning is that the sheriff dept isn’t doing their part out of spite or corruption or....something. You would think they would do whatever they could to correct that. If all that takes is sending a dog to confirm or deny a hit at a spot why would you not do that? It’s just a shame.
