PE has on their Andy Search Story Map a wide angle picture of the ‘little tree’ scene that gives a better look at its location. Apparently it’s near the Puma Path residence.

Suzanne Moorman Morphew

Here it is on the map. Odd place because it’s an open area right by Hwy 50.

ETA: This is supposedly where the tree(s) were planted.

no white tent yet??
Haven’t seen a recent photo. If we see anything like that, I’d take it as a sign they may have found something.

Law enforcement expected to release new statement on missing Suzanne Morphew investigation: Source

Sept 29, 2020

Authorities in Colorado are expected to issue a news release Tuesday about the investigation into the disappearance of Suzanne Morphew, who was reported missing on May 10.

[..]

Later Monday, the sheriff’s office denied the discovery of human remains in a statement. The statement did not confirm or deny reports that cadaver dogs may have detected human remains.

“Contrary to some media reports, there have been no remains found in the Suzanne Morphew case. There have been a handful of potential leads that have been pursued as a result of the volunteer search; however, nothing has been identified as related to Suzanne’s disappearance. Investigators will not comment on specific leads being investigated or other information connected with this case.”

CrimeOnline has contacted multiple law enforcement sources in an attempt to clarify conflicting reports about potential discoveries made during the volunteer search that began on Thursday and was expected to continue through Tuesday.

A person who answered the phone at the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday said that Sheriff John Spezze was out of the office this week for unspecified medical reasons. The undersheriff has not returned a message.

Susan Medina, Communications Director for the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, who had since May been the acting spokesperson for the missing persons investigation, told CrimeOnline on Tuesday that she is no longer the media lead on the Morphew case. She said that the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office was now the media lead and would likely be releasing a written statement about the investigation later Tuesday. A news conference is not expected on Tuesday, Medina said.

CrimeOnline will provide further updates as the story develops.

What the heck?! Is the whole investigation imploding?

I've been reading along, and would like to weigh in on 'digging'.

I've run a backhoe, and front end loaders over the years.

I've seldom done any real 'digging' with the front end loader, you know, the bucket out front. Now, if you're operating a dozer, then yeah, you can dig with those puppies, for sure. But actual digging with a front end loader on a tractor is unlikely, unless it's sand or something.

Backhoe with bucket, yep, that'll do some digging there for sure.

I've seen equipment that has a bucket on one end and backhoe on the other. Do you think the machine with front bucket we've seen them using at the Longhorn Ranch site today has the capability to add the backhoe to it if digging into the ground is required? Or, would that require another machine entirely?

I have not logged into Twitter but can see the PE page and posts.

I used to be abe to as well, but the twitter site won't work for me at all, anymore.
(So I edited my post accordingly. :) ) Thanks, though!

She will get the notification so perhaps that’s the intent ?

Think it’s already been deleted. IMO

ETA: nevermind

Anyone who has worked construction or an outside job has probably cut themselves, smashed a finger, etc. a time or two and had blood drip down onto the ground. How do the dogs or LE distinguish between what could have been an injury on a job site vs. a significant find that should be processed?

I don't know how accurate this is but PE last night was saying the way the dog was behaving on the site shows there maybe something deep in the soil.
** ok so the way I think the cadaver dogs work is by detecting decay. When you cut yourself on the job that blood comes from a live body. If you take a blood sample from a body you can tell if it came from a live person or dead person. If they alert it is due to decaying body or blood after a death not before.

Cadaver dogs are trained to identify the scent of decomposition. Specifically the decomposition of human flesh. They will not alert to blood. However, there are search and rescue dogs that will. It's all down to scent training.
They do alert to blood from decomp

Absolutely. The issue is that all the news outlets apparently have better things to do than send reporters to cover a potentially major development in a story that has garnered national attention.

It is indeed very strange that local news is not reporting any of this. Then again, I was puzzled by Lauren being pulled from or leaving the story as well.

Just wondering.
Do they clear the boulders then bring the dogs in again?

  • #114
I think once they remove the rocks with machinery, they will go in by hand, manually removing dirt carefully as to not disrupt any evidence or remains.

also yes, I'm wondering too if they will use the dogs once the small boulders are moved to get a slightly more precise perimeter to start digging?

thoughts from WS veterans?

<modsnip: Quoted post was removed>

That the big wide diggy thing on the front is not good for digging a hole to hide a body, however the smaller diggy thing with the long arm, mounted on the back is good for digging a hole to hide a body. The big yellow machines with the tracks rather than tires are good for digging holes for anything, people, cars, outhouses, etc.

The equipment pictured in that photo would not typically be used for digging. So maybe they are just moving rocks or moving some soil in preparation for digging. That piece of equipment msy be out of view.

If we hada reporter on scene filming, we'd frigging know these things!!

Great visual!

I wonder how close the nearest trail cam BM may have set up is to this little tree location? In other words, is there a trail cam pointing at the little tree?

Would be great to have eyes on the ground at this location, taking pics of the current activity and reporting back to us o_O
Yea I wonder too. Hmmm.
I think it's been reported the house is on 7 acres??? Anyone??
This property, to me and IMO, is too far from tree area. I wouldn't think he'd have rights for cameras there? But who knows.

In the Vallow case they knew precisely where to dig due to CAST phone tracking. This excavation will be old school, hunt and peck.
