no it's actually not that unusual. happens quite frequently for college campuses. this sort of housing is easiest for many students regardless of age. there's no age limit....

Looks like a love triangle. 6am shooting might mean he slept over at their place when the perpetrator was not supposed to be back home.

At 6 am he may have been drunk and banging at the door possibly him knowing this guy spent the night with his room mate. Maybe he was drunk and they wouldn't let him in and he made a lot of noise and was seen by others before he barged in and shot them. Just a possibility
This is just pure speculation... 6 am shooting is the key to this one.
