In late April when re-opening was beginning Florida, Texas, and Arizona had warmer weather and there tourist season was beginning while Colorado was still having bad weather and there was nothing to do outdoors. Don't let the lower numbers in Colorado fool you. Tourists are starting to arrive and I expect in a couple of weeks I expect our numbers to surge here as well.

Anybody else notice how CO COVID site stopped posting daily numbers and switched to cumulative numbers. It automatically looks like curves are flattening because every day the cumulative base is higher thus new deaths account for a smaller percentage even if they are still going up slightly. Polis is hell-bent on being the first Gov to lift stay at home restrictions and also voted least likely (IMO) to enforce wearing masks. I am scared to death that when this is all over CO will have one of the highest per capita death rates in the country.

I just hope if (when) cases spike again here he’ll reinstate a stay at home order. But he won’t in my opinion because that might mean he made a mistake.

Something like that is going on where I live, too. The record keeping/posting is so messed up (and now I'm wondering why Public Health has so many employees - about 40 - and no contact tracing, no ability to update their website, no responsibility for any direct care of anyone).

This is very concerning. Oddly, we were watching Colorado tourism videos all day, thinking it would be better there, seeing all the maskless people in Telluride. Makes sense that reopening hasn't occurred yet and of course, the last thing they need is for us outsider to traipse over there.

COVID-19 Colorado: Hospitalizations Way Up Amid Fireworks Fail

The Fourth of July weekend is an annual celebration of America and Americana. But this year, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, it was accompanied by concerning developments on a number of fronts.

Both confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus and hospitalizations caused by it are way up in Colorado over recent weeks, with the latter hitting its highest mark in nearly a month on Sunday, July 5. Meanwhile, legal actions are being pursued against the owners of Bandimere Speedway over an event on July 4 that included one of the biggest fireworks display in metro Denver, which officials at Jefferson County Public Health say violated safety rules put in place by a judge days before the event.

COVID-19: New Colorado Outbreaks Nearly Double in a Week

Colorado's daily COVID-19 case count more than doubled in a ten-day period, up to 218 on June 30. And just-released statistics about outbreaks are equally worrisome.

According to a report from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, issued yesterday afternoon, July 1, investigators have identified 25 new outbreak sites. That's a bump of more than 78 percent over fresh entries reported one week earlier.

Just as significant is the variety of settings where outbreaks have been identified, including the first strip club to be cited and what appears to be a teenage party.

Jeffco Public Health: Bandimere Speedway event violated court-ordered limits

Updated July 6, 2020
MORRISON, Colo. — Bandimere Speedway failed to follow agreed upon court-ordered requirements during the Jet Car Nationals event it hosted on Saturday, Jefferson County Public Health (JCPH) said Sunday morning.

After monitoring the Fourth of July event at the speedway, JCPH said it was disappointed that the organization failed to limit and manage crowd sizes, implement social distancing requirements and adhere to COVID-19 requirements in Colorado Public Health Order 20-28.

New law permanently expands telehealth coverage in Colorado - KRDO

DENVER (KRDO) -- Colorado lawmakers and Gov. Jared Polis have established a law to permanently expand telehealth coverage across the state.

The law is set to make healthcare services - especially for mental health - more accessible to people in both metro and rural areas.

The bill also prohibits insurance providers from requiring patients to undergo an in-person exam before they can be seen virtually.

COVID-19 testing site at Denver's Pepsi Center closes early amid long lines and limited capacity

“Denver’s coronavirus testing site at the Pepsi Center closed its gates after noon on Tuesday as demand grew so high that city officials became concerned that already limited lab capacity would further delay test results.

The early closure of the site offers the latest indication that testing capacity in Colorado remains fragile months into the COVID-19 pandemic, especially as novel coronavirus cases are surging once again in parts of the U.S. and health officials report shortages in testing supplies nationwide.“

As Colorado’s new COVID-19 cases remain elevated, state sees uptick in hospitalizations – The Denver Post

“Coronavirus infections remained elevated in Colorado for a third consecutive week as the state’s COVID-19 hospitalizations have begun to creep upward for the first time in months.

Colorado is still not experiencing the same type of surges as states such as Arizona, Texas, Florida and California. But the state’s rate of positive coronavirus test results has jumped since the first week of June, meaning that transmission of COVID-19 is increasing and that the rise in new cases is not simply due to more testing.“

[...]

““The next week or two there’s going to be a lot of focus on watching that positivity rate,” said Dr. Lisa Miller, professor of epidemiology at the Colorado School of Public Health.“

COVID-19 rapidly rising again in El Paso County

“EL PASO COUNTY — Approaching the four-month mark of the COVID-19 pandemic there is a spike of positive cases in El Paso County, Colorado. "What is concerning is that since mid-June we've seen a fairly steady rise over the last three weeks or more," said El Paso County Public Health, Medical Director, Dr. Robin Johnson. The rise points to a specific age group who could be putting others at risk.“
