Colorado Gov. Eliminates Gender-Specific Bathrooms

The caption should read "Do you want this to happen to YOUR daughter?"

ETA: and for impact, place a blurred strip where his weiner is.

Oh, My !!!! I really wasn't paying attention last night when I watched the news. I'm from Colorado and please, please, I did not vote for him. I'm a Republican, for crying out loud. I'm e-mailing my representative for a bit of a laught. I'll ask him if we need to have our Democrat rants in the john now.

For the record, if a transgender man to woman was in the ladies room, I'd never notice. That I don't mind. What really bothers me is now we have to totally re-construct all the men's rooms, I would think. Tear out the urinals and make more closed stalls.

I have been in restrooms that do have the signs for both sexes and are labled family friendly. That I can totally understand. Mom, Dad, kids and a baby all together taking care of the kids. I used one of these once. I've also been in one labled "either/or" in a medical building. It was just like at home. One toilet, one sink, door locked for only one occupant. I'm going to have a look at what the hell Ritter was thinking. I don't mind having one restroom, private, like the ones we had at work, but entire rooms with multiple stalls, I'm just not ready for this.

Hell, might as well have that nut job that wants the alien commission add a little alien picture to them as well, so UFO visitors won't feel discrimination. Oh, Boy.

I think women need to start following the Gov into every public bathroom he uses.

Doesn't he have guards that would prevent that?? Of course this won't affect him or his family, so why would he care?

BTW, how much is all this costing?

Here's my e-mail to my rep, Cory Gardner, Republican. Colorado State House of Representatives, Minority Whip:

Cory, I just had to chuckle at this on a light note. So, dress up like a woman (don't forget to shave really well) and we'll meet in the ladies room to dis the Democrats.

Seriously, would this allow a pedophile to dress as a woman and prey on little girls, or even attack a woman. Wierdos are out there and I think Gov. Ritter has lost his last brain cell. The next to last was to endorse Obama, but that's another story.

Hope to see you at the Kit Carson Fair then at the Farm Bureau Meeting.

Love to you,

Not kidding, here's Cory for real, he exists and he is my representative. A really nice guy and when he was appointed to fill the seat of the rep who moved up when my neighbor was appointed to be Treasurer of the State of Colorado, I met him and we immediately clicked and have been friendly since then. He's a real sweety. Off to e-mail my senator, Greg Brophy.

All I can find is it only affects those who are transgender and feel they are of the opposite sex. Nobody that I know of who has actually had the operation one way or the other, would bother me. That's who it was supposed to address. If a transgender man/woman gone through or going through the process of a sex change, no problem. But, this could certainly allow a pedophile or predator of kids and/or women to dress as the opposite sex and enter a ladies room/mens room and attack. All under the guise of legitimacy. Most of us wouldn't know a true transgender if they saw one in a line up. Hey, change your sex, no problem. Now you're a woman after undergoing surgery. I understand and sympathize. You're not after my daughter and all that, just need a bathroom. But thinking you are of the opposite sex, just doesn't cut it, IMO.

They did not define "transgender" in this bill, as far as I can tell. I think that leads it open to abuse. :(

BG, the law has no legal description of what defines transgender. Anyone can claim to be transgender to gain access! If they're denied, the business has to DEFEND their decision to not allow the person access. This is a nightmare.

I don't think a person who is faking it is going to go through all the legal trouble and the public humiliation of claiming they are transgendered just so they can see some boobies.

I sort of understand the ORIGINAL intent of this bill. But the wording and end result will not be what was intended. I worked with a post-surgery transgendered individual whose post surgery identity was female. She was naturally not wanting to use a men's room, but several women objected to her using the ladies' room. Well what the heck was she supposed to do?? Hold it all day? The ladies were told that legally she was a woman and they could not bar her from the ladies' room. Pre-surgery he had to dress as a woman for 1 year and live the life of a woman, but was forced to use the men's room, even in a dress and heels and all. It made for some strange situations, and management finally suggested that until surgery, he should use a restroom that had only one toilet, and the door could be locked. It was signed as a unisex restroom after that.

I'll put more concerns into my e-mail to Greg Brophy. I know he's got a bit of power in Denver.

To Greg Brophy:

Hi Greg,
I've e-mailed Cory and suggested he dress up and meet me in the ladies room to dis the Democrats, you can come too.

Seriously, what was Gov. Ritter thinking? Just because you "feel" like the opposite sex and want to use the ladies/mens room is a bit naive. Legitimate transgenders who have gone through the surgery don't bother me, but what about those who would use this as an excuse for crimes against women and children are a concern. I wouldn't know a man or woman who has surgically and legally changed genders if presented in a line-up, so a surgically new "lady" isn't the issue. It's the potential predator who can use this stupid law to prey in a relative private space who is the concern.

I just wanted to express my view. I look forward to seeing you at the Kit Carson County Fair and the Farm Bureau meeting this year.

Love to you and yours Greg,

The very first child who gets molested due to this law, I pray the parents sue the hell out of the state and the Govenor himself, personally and everyone else involved in this craziness.

This is like baiting a trap. Sit back and watch the pedophiles flock to that state.

So why was the gov so eager to sign this bill? We know the govt nevers acts quickly. This could have been paper pushed around forever and it wasn't. Why?

That's a very tactful letter, BarnGoddess! :)
I'll be interested to see if/how he responds.

Do you know anything about this Tim Gill character? His name is mentioned in this brief note from James Dobson, Focus on the Family:

"The legislation lists every conceivable type of organization to which this law applies, including restaurants, bathhouses, massage parlors, mortuaries, theaters and ‘public facilities of any kind.’ Those who would attempt to protect females from this intrusion are subject to a fine of up to $5,000 and up to one year behind bars.

“This is your government in action. It represents a payback to Tim Gill and two other billionaires who have essentially ‘bought’ the state Legislature with enormous campaign contributions. Coloradans deserve better!"

It's shocking that a wealthy few could be allowed to subject the entire general taxpaying population to their own narrow special interests! :furious:
