One takeaway from Frontline that I found very telling was the correspondence shortly after moving to Newtown where Nancy is writing about the boys upcoming birthdays. Nancy writes that Ryan is having both an old friends party and a new friends party and Adam is just having a new friends party. This throwaway line in the hour subtlety gave insight that once people interacted with Adam for a good period of time they rejected him whereas Ryan didn't encounter the same feedback.

Interesting point. I wonder if it also could have been that NL was trying to make a new start for AL (or for herself/family) not that some kids didn't like him. IDK. My first thought was that kind of party could have been really overwhelming for AL? In all, it seems to me that NL had about the opposite personality and needs than AL did... interesting dynamic maybe.

Exactly. That just struck me as odd because I can't think of any male friend that I would email so much on a regular basis about such personal stuff.

My favorite misspelling: "What a delemna!"

I noticed in several of her emails she mentions that "the boys" are going to "their" friends. It seemed like AL was at least socializing back then.

I can't really tell what to think about her relationship with PL:
<snip of quotes>

I agree and thanks for pulling out all the quotes.

I thought it was odd too but then again AL was younger and probably had not established friendships quite as solid as RL's. NL did mention that AL was going to parties though - even a sleep over - so he must not have been as withdrawn when he was younger. Unless it was one of those scenarios where RL HAD to take his little brother with him wherever he went.

Adam was turning 7 years old that April. Besides the 26 new little schoolmates, how many old friends could he possibly have at 7 years old? And, they had only moved to Newtown the previous year.

Ryan on the other hand was turning 11 and was both in school and in a cub scout group.

And, one overnight is mentioned: "Peter and the boys are going on an overnight camping trip with the Cub Scouts this weekend. Luckily, they are supposed to have excellent weather for it."

I don't read anything into any of the birthday parties and the cub scout overnight.

Me too... esp about her hubby not doing anything around the house and the whole help/exec guys stalking her :what:. I think you could be right on not having many friends as she goes into so much detail about what she has been doing this day or that but also talks a bout how incredibly busy her social calendar is. I don't even go into that detail with my family or female friends. I find her odd, goes out of her way to say she isn't pompous but then says this kind of stuff --> "they are in a position to SEEM like they know a lot...but remember THEY ARE CLERKS!!!! They have a collective IQ of about 80.....if they had any brains or ambition, would they be working for minimum wage in a warehouse environment?" ---> "snagged a few silk stockings".
"silk stockings".... really, I had to Google to see if anyone really made those anymore.
After having read the emails, I was really surprised they were even published. I find them disturbing.
I find her and her son, AL, more alike than different. Alone, obsessive, perfectionist, very high opinion of herself. Specifically the idea of creating tension between two families at a wedding then sitting back and laughing , and then bragging about this to LaFontaine, made me cringe.

DOH! I wasn't even thinking about how old they were - thanks for keeping us on track!

I hear ya on the silk stockings.

BBM - good points on how they might be very alike. I cringed at the wedding thing also.

I cringed too. Who does that kind of thing? Seems cruel to me. (No disrespect to her memory intended.)

"disturbing, cringe" etc

I have a couple of links about that and something else case related ... It would be a hearsay to post them here (3rd party's info) .. so would go against forum's rules ... - if someone wants to check those couple of links out .. PM me .. and i will provide them to you in PM

First I'd note that in the email, Nancy makes a point to highlight that the shooter has 26 new friends coming to his party and does not attach a number to the people associated with each of Ryan's parties. This would indicate to me that she's trying to tell someone "look my boy fits in here" which would lead one to believe that might not have been the case in NH.

As far as how many friends a kid that young has: I vividly recall my nephews' birthday parties, the boys are "Irish twins" (about a year apart). They're now 7 and 8 but even in their 4 & 5 parties I was surprised at not only the sheer number of kids at each of their parties but how each boy had different sets of friends with minor cross over.

Just how do you think the term "irish twins" came about?

Just how do you think the term "irish twins" came about?

Guessing it's a *somewhat* derogatory English expression - joking about big Irish Catholic families. :giggle:

Usually refers to children born in same family, within a year of each other.

They can joke all they want, but the mother of Irish twins is guaranteed a place in Heaven. So I've been told. Right there next to the mother of 3 boys.

LOL nora. I know you knew that. :)

Just how do you think the term "irish twins" came about?

First of all I am 90% Irish and raised in an Irish-Catholic family. Irish twins are a pair of siblings born within the same calendar year or within twelve months of one another.

While the origins of the term are not completely known, during a period in the 1800s when my people were persecuted here in America and faced harsh discrimination in all aspects of life, terms like Irish Twins were used in a negative context. The Irish and the Irish in America have a history of overcoming adversity and generations of Irish turning negatives into positives. While the term was used in derogatory ways at one point in history, today we celebrate the love and the blessing when we welcome and nurture the Irish Twins we are lucky to have in our family. The same is true for countless other families who use the term and several well-respected parenting publications who use this term in a most-positive manner.

Good day sir.

From the Charlotte Bacon Memorial Facebook page:

"Charlotte on the morning of her 6th birthday. It still is so unbelievable that she is not here to celebrate her 7th. I miss you baby so much, but I will celebrate and rejoice the best 6 years of my life. The years that my family was complete. I was blessed to be your mommy."

Photos of Charlotte celebrating her 6th birthday were posted. I continue to pray for the families of those who were taken.

PETA Honors Newtown Victim In Memorial Garden

Six-year-old Catherine Hubbard will be honored alongside Princess Diana and Lady Linda McCartney in a memorial garden for people who were compassionate to animals.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is honoring Catherine, who was one of the 26 people killed during a shooting Dec. 14 at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. PETA is adding a golden leaf dedicated to Catherine on its Tree of Life monument at the organization's national headquarters in Norfolk, Va.

The tree is wall art twinkling with hundreds of golden leaves and it is dedicated to people whose actions make a positive difference for animals. Catherine's leaf is inscribed: "In loving memory of Catherine Violet Hubbard, friend to all animals."

In life, six-year-old Catherine wanted to own and operate an animal shelter when she grew up. Her parents mean to realize her dream through the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary.

My 7 year old grandson, who is very social and makes friends easily, did have a few of old friends come to visit from their former neighborhood/state last year. However, their parents were good friends with my daughter and her husband and willing to travel that far, stay overnight. Since the Lanza's moved to a different state, a 7 year olds friends from their former neighborhood/school might not be that likely to attend a birthday party.

I'm wondering if the 'old friends' of the older boy came because NL's friend brought them? Also, being older there's a chance of them being more bonded than at the age of 7. I think most parents would be hesitant for a 7 year old to go that far (and possibly stay over), less so with an 11 year old.

Anyway so much for all that.

Time: thanks for your thoughtful reply.

Quick question:
In the email, Nancy makes a point to highlight that the shooter has 26 new friends coming to his party and does not attach a number to the people associated with each of Ryan's parties.
Do you read anything into that?

I can't figure if it's a "yeah one party has 26 guests alone!" or "AL is adjusting so well..." I know nowadays if you send birthday invitations to school, you are required to provide one for every kid in the class.

Newtown victim Olivia Engel comforted by police officer when she died

Olivia died in the arms of a Newtown police officer at the school, said Deacon Don Naiman. The officer told her he loved her as he passed her into Jesus’ waiting arms, Naiman said.

In everything I have read, I don't remember coming across this piece of info. Olivia was the little girl who was carried out by the police officer.

wow - 26 - there's that number again. 26 new friends. What an odd coincidence - 26. That just jumped out at me when I read your post.
