Connecticut's Malloy Backs State Police Official Who 'Leaked' Adam Lanza Warrants Information

Published: Sunday, March 31, 2013

The Journal Inquirer reports that Mark Ojakian, Malloy's chief of staff, called Col. Daniel Stebbins to ask how information about what he discussed at the seminar in New Orleans was published in a column in the New York Daily News earlier this month.

The column, citing an unidentified police officer who attended the seminar, reported that Stebbins discussed evidence that suggested Adam Lanza studied other mass killings and extensively planned the Newtown massacre.

Ojakian says Malloy stands by Stebbins, who won't be disciplined. He says somebody breached the confidence of the meeting.

Malloy said at the time he was "disappointed and angered" that the information was published.

Newtown Shooter Adam Lanza Killed Victims Within 5 Minutes (Updated)

Published: Monday, April 01, 2013

By Michael Melia and Ted Shaffrey
Associated Press
In a duffel bag, investigators found ear and eye protection, binoculars, numerous paper targets and an NRA certificate that belonged to Adam Lanza. The NRA said Lanza was not a member.

An unnamed person told investigators that Lanza was an avid gamer who played "Call of Duty" and rarely left his home. The affidavit, which is partially blacked out, also has that person saying that Sandy Hook, the school Lanza attended as a child, was his "life."

On the day of the massacre, Lanza took two loaded handguns to the school along with the Bushmaster rifle. A fourth gun, a loaded 12-gauge Saiga shotgun, was found in the passenger compartment of his Honda Civic, along with 70 shotgun rounds.

Now why wouldn't he want to identify his gender? I've never read anything stating he lived differently than a male.

Now why wouldn't he want to identify his gender? I've never read anything stating he lived differently than a male.

I don't think it has anything to do with that--more likely he felt it was nobody's business. Secretive, you know.

I'm assuming it's some school questionnaire, why they would even have a choice that says "prefer not to answer" is beyond me.

HARTFORD — To help tighten security and have personnel at the state’s colleges who can help identify students who may be at risk to themselves or others, lawmakers voted out a bill Tuesday that mandates threat assessment teams on each of the campuses.

State Rep. Roberta Willis, D-Salisbury, co-chair of the Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee, said the colleges have to have a security protocol plan in place by October, which would be sent to the state Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection. Its purpose would be to heighten awareness by all faculty and staff regarding potentially at-risk students and other individuals and how to respond to them.

The bill now goes to the Senate floor and then the House.

If approved, no later than January 2014, each of the public colleges and the 25 independent institutions of higher education in Connecticut would have to establish trained assessment teams that would include individuals picked by the president in consultation with its chief of police or heads of campus safety, from the administration, faculty and staff. They would receive extensive training on identifying potential threats.

Conn. Lawmakers Expected To Vote Wednesday On Bipartisan Gun Control Plan

April 2, 2013 7:42 AM

The proposal has already drawn strong opposition from gun rights groups.

The Connecticut Citizens’ Defense League said “limiting magazine capacity or mandating registration would only affect people who obey the law.”

It added that nothing in the package would stop someone like Newtown gunman Adam Lanza, who stole the weapons he used in the massacre from his mother.

According to records obtained by CBS News, Sandy Hook Elementary School shooter Adam Lanza had a 3.2 grade-point average in his coursework at Western Connecticut State University. He got his best grades in math and computer-related classes.

When asked his gender on a student background information form, Lanza wrote “I choose not to answer.” He wrote the same thing in response to the question: How do you describe yourself?
