And remember how long it was for the theater shooter.

To now that I knew my child was deceased in that school and could not be removed. Thats is horrible ontop of horrible.

It took forever for them to officially ID and remove the Columbine victims-

State Police to hold presser shortly.

Watching news here in MA and the reporter just slipped up that the body at the second scene is a young woman then corrected to a woman?

Sad thing is in my state you can not even bring a gun on school grounds.

My son is LE, when he does training at the local college even he (LE) has to leave firearm in car.

OMG! How is that SAD?

It was a school. 20 children who probably still had all of their BABY teeth are dead.

This is honestly not the place to argue this and I am sorry, but please, a least for today, can we not say that the only thing that went wrong today was that there weren't enough guns?

Well, we can't go that far. :( Most angry oddballs go their whole lives never harming anyone.

Exactly. It's really hard to predict which ones will be dangerous, but it's a very very small percentage of the mentally ill who are violent.

On the other hand, especially once a mentally ill person reaches adulthood, it's increasingly difficult for family members or friends who are probably in the best position to know if someone is potentially dangerous to get help for them, get them evaluated, and get them placed in settings where they can be stabilized. We treat them as competent adults even when we know they are not.

If NL was a school counselor, she might not have been listed on staff at a single school but "floated" around the district visiting several buildings.

That's what I was thinking, too.

Exactly.

It is absolutely terrible when these mass shootings happen and 100% more tragic when it involves children but mass murders are still very rare when compared to the 14,000+ other kinds of homicides of various methods that happen yearly.

Usually in these mass murder cases there is some documentation of some type of mental illness. Now being mentally ill does not excuse what these people do but it usually is in their background.

I can't find it now, but one of the reports I saw said the "school psychologist" was killed.

I heard that, as well. Whether a counselor or psychologist, most school districts have auxiliary professionals who service multiple buildings.

I'm so sick of these weirdos. I know this didn't come out of nowhere. I'm now of the belief that we need to start institutionalizing all these "troubled" males and we as a country need to stop tolerating these nuts in the community, BEFORE they end up at this point.

You can bet I'm side-eyeing any potential nut when I'm out and about from now on.

Autistic individuals are far more likely to be a victim of violence than a perpetrator. This is the first time I have ever read about an autistic person shooting others.

I do not think a part time or substitute could afford her home. We are talking 4000,00 a month with current taxes and mortgage.

I did find an NL in CT that is a with a brokerage firm or another in NJ that is an RN.

SO if she's not a teacher there what is his connection? They buzzed him in right? Must have known him. Maybe the missing gf teaches there?

I remember in one of the school shootings (not sure if it was Columbine), but it took days for them to even remove the bodies because of the magnitude of the crimescene. Collecting ballistics, bullet trajectory, photographs, etc... can take a long time in scenes like these.

I will say that I am happy ( I really hate to type this) that investigators are showing the parents photographs to ID their children and not making them wait for days until they can ID them at the medical examiner's office.

I also hate to say this, but the school should be closed. They've turned it into a makeshift morgue for the victims. I would never be able to send my child back to that school. Other local schools should bring in trailers for extra classrooms.

HLN - please stop showing the ads of the homeless animals against "Silent Night". Not appropriate. I'm a big ASPCA fan but come on, not now. MOO.

The mother Adam Lanza was found dead in her son's residence in Newtown, a law enforcement source with detailed knowledge of the investigation told CNN. CNN had previously identified the mother as Nancy Lanza, a teacher at the Sandy Hook Elementary, according to law enforcement sources.

So now its the sons house? These reporters are as bad as the weather reporters IMO

CNN later clarified that Nancy Lanza was found dead at suspect's home, and that they are not sure if she also lived there.

I'm beginning to think LE hasn't figured out all of the details, either. MOO, local & state LE have been overwhelmed by this crime spree and have been slow to let other agencies help out more. It seems in the last few hours they may be letting the FBI do a little more, but they don't seem to be on the ball investigating the perp and his family/friends.

They could do a better job of dispelling rumors, etc., even if they can't provide more information.

New England Cable News is saying that they are not saying who the body is in the home.

Wonder if its the missing GF and they need to positive ID

I'm wondering why is it so hard to get a clear positive ID on all the fatalities in this case? Unless there is a suspicion of something truly diabolical - switching clothing or bringing other children to school who aren't students there in order to kill them, it seems it would take me under 2 hours to have a firm, positive ID on all 30.

Anyone who has ever gone on a field trip with a class knows a school can tell you immediately which kids didn't get on the bus that were expected - and a teacher could simply look at her class roll, parents can pick up and sign out their kids, and those who weren't picked up are the pool of names you draw from.

Why in the world is it taking so long? This must be agonizing for the parents.

For an official id they probably need DNA. Dentals are only good when dental work such as fillings, root canals, crowns etc. are done. It's very unlikely any of the students had the type of dental work needed for an official id.

DNA takes time.

NECN just said the mother and children were killed in the school. So she must have worked there and maybe the school website was not updated?

Autism isn't the problem here though, is it? It's straight up mental illness. Untreated.

That true. And being mentally ill doesnt mean they are walking around foaming at the mouth either. If the mentally ill harms anyone it usually is themselves not others.

It is extremely hard for a family to get help for a mentally ill person. They are adults and have rights and all they have to do is refuse. They may can get them in for 72 hours but most are let out after then.
