Christmas in Newtown, Connecticut

The world ends this week. That doesn’t mean I’m not making plans for any event beyond December 21st. In fact, my family just decided that we will be spending Christmas in Newtown this year. But the world as we knew it must end. And I’d like to thank 26 heroes for showing us why. In 1985, my family moved to Newtown, Connecticut. I attended fifth grade at Sandy Hook Elementary School. I recall the giant green footprints that were painted on the street from Riverside Road up to the school’s entrance; I remember Mrs. Paige, my fifth grade teacher; and I recall my friends—carefree, learning, trying to be cool—exactly the way elementary school kids are supposed to be......

It took 26 angels—most of them young children—to accomplish what no single person could have done alone. They made the world stop turning. They made all of humanity pause. They forced us to ask ourselves, “What’s really happening to us?” The ancient Mayans may have predicted the end of the world this week, but these 26 heroes fulfilled it. These angels all have names: Charlotte Bacon, age 6, Daniel Barden, age 7, Rachel Davino, age 29, Olivia Engel, age 6, Josephine Gay, age 7, Ana M. Marquez-Greene, age 6, Dylan Hockley, age 6, Dawn Hochsprung, age 47, Madeleine F. Hsu, age 6, Catherine V. Hubbard, age 6, Chase Kowalski, age 7, Jesse Lewis, age 6, James Mattioli, age 6, Grace McDonnell, age 7, Anne Marie Murphy, age 52, Emilie Parker, age 6, Jack Pinto, age 6, Noah Pozner, age 6, Caroline Previdi, age 6, Jessica Rekos, age 6, Avielle Richman, age 6, Lauren Rousseau, age 30, Mary Sherlach, age 56, Victoria Soto, age 27, Benjamin Wheeler, age 6, and Allison N. Wyatt, age 6.
These fine human beings caused billions of extra hugs in recent days. They started dialogues that need to happen. They woke up a town, a state, a nation, and a world to what really matters. They did not die in vain. It’s our duty as humans to carry on their legacy.
The person who won’t be named is the shooter. Names belong to people. He doesn’t deserve his. The 26 angels are all that matter.

News sources shouldn't be reporting anything until they verify their info as true. The sloppy reporting and putting up Facebook sites of people with similar names to that of the true suspects but NO connection what so ever is horribly wrong. Anything for "breaking news" whether it's true or not. Ethics out the window.

I don't know how many of the media reported when the story was breaking that Adam was his brother Ryan because he had his brothers I.D. Now how did they get that info? We also have to realize that a town this small that has never dealt with a lot of crime is going to make mistakes. I would guess the police department was overrun with media, and began releasing information until some one realized the wrong info was getting out and the chief told his staff to zip it.

Respectfully edited. Things are much different in schools today than they were when you and I were in school. (I have grands, too, so I'm assuming that we are in the same age range.) My siblings and I attended a parochial school, and when our teachers indicated any type of learning or behavioral problem with any of us, my parents made certain that we did our best to overcome it.

For example, the only subject with which I struggled in elementary grades was Handwriting. I know now that it was a hand/eye coordination thing because I was very near-sighted with a lazy eye that wasn't really helped with corrective lenses. My mom would make me practice my Handwriting every day before I could do any other non-school activity :( It wasn't a punishment; she just wanted me to do better in the only subject that gave me trouble.

Many parents today don't want to hear teachers or other professionals say anything negative about their children and don't want to be told how to raise them. My nephew had problems when he was in elementary school, and teachers and other school personnel wanted to do some screening beyond the usual progress testing in basic academic subjects. When the notion of "psychological" testing was broached during a conference, my sister and her ex refused to allow the suggested screening :banghead: Unfortunately, their stubbornness likely accounts for this young man's inability to lead a productive, successful adult life.

:moo:

To be fair, I think this is just another unfair stereotype. I do know these parents exist, but they existed in my grandparent's generation too. My family is a perfect example. We have genetic learning variances, there is a clear trace from his mom, him, me, my child. I'm the FIRST to have actually approached them from a diagnostic POV. My dad was the first to work on improving skills, instead of just shaming and forcing and attempting to keep up appearances. They didn't care why, they just wanted him to stop being abnormal.

Yes, times change, but I'm not sure that these sweeping generational assumptions are really fair to anyone.

Again I will reiterate. In a perfect world this would be the case. However when a story is breaking fast and furiously, and facts cannot be verified then it makes it tough. We are an information society. Where 24/7 news is expected. News media has not put up the fake profiles. Except when they put up Ryan Lanza's Fb, the suspects brother. But this was not THEIR fault it was in fact the LE'S fault because they initially accused Ryan Lanza as being the shooter.

There has been so much false/incorrect info that should not have been in the news. Just because 24/7 news is expected doesn't validate sloppy reporting.

We know nothing concrete about the family dynamics.
As I have posted before almost all accounts of Nancy as a mother portray her as a lovely devoted mother.
Attacking her integrity and her choices will not be tolerated at this time. Not only it is this a victim friendly site- but we have not got the first clue what is or is not true as it relates to the shooter and his mother.

She has paid the ultimate price. leave her alone. Leave the family alone, the whole family.

We do not know enough.

THIS IS THE FINAL WARNING. If you see members violate please alert.

Bumping and bolded by me

Anyone that harasses, threatens or intimidates anyone involved in this case via social media or any forms of communication WILL BE Prosecuted.

Is this explained enough now?

Per LE live on CNN
weapon Bushmaster AR-15
Sig Sauer 9mm
Glock 9mm
multiple rounds of ammunition/multiple high capacity magazines
100's of bullets...
shotgun in vehicle...
hand gun used to take his own life...

Officer Vance is very thorough. He will not release anything until they have a full timeline constructed.

CNN has the Connecticut Police department reporting that they have positively identified the mother Nancy Lanzo who died of multiple gunshot wounds and is ruled a homicide the shooter positively identified as Adam Lanzo and his death is ruled as a suicide. Police again warning not to harass by telephone or internet or you will be prosecuted through the fullest extent of the law. Also the threat at the Church was true and they are now looking for that person who will be prosecuted by the fullest extent of the law. Hundreds of bullets were fired.

I don't blame the police as it appears they are doing an excellent job. I blame the reporters. They are relentless. Not only do they report info without verifying their sources and info, they prey on the most vulnerable in these cases...calling the grandmother for her take when she just found out her grandson killed her daughter? Ugh.

Many parents today want their children coddled and not disciplined. Many parents will claim the teacher is picking on their child, when all the teacher wants is for that child to excel. These same parents are turning their children against teachers so much so that the child never learns to respect their teachers as authority figures. Which brings me to what happened with my niece last year in 1st grade...

She had a teacher that she really didn't like. My niece is not a troubled child. Actually, she is the sweetest thing. Very outgoing and has a lot of little friends. For some reason, she and this teacher didn't mesh. My niece was convinced that her teacher didn't like her. My sister and brother-in-law could have asked for her to be removed from her classroom, but they didn't. They didn't want to start a pattern that would follow if my niece was removed from this class. There are going to be many teachers in her lifetime that she is not going to mesh with. So, my sister and brother-in-law paid extra attention to her during homework hours at home to make sure she was not only doing her work, but doing it well. She made it through the year on the honor roll. She is now in 2nd grade, loves her teacher this year, and on the honor roll.

My sister and brother-in-law didn't question this teacher. Every teacher has their methods. They have their ways. Those ways may not work with every student, but it is the parents responsibilty to make sure their children still respect their teachers. No matter what! This teacher wasn't abusing my niece. She wasn't mean to her. She was just set in her ways and did things a certain way. ETA: My sister and brother in law were convinced that my niece didn't take to well to the transition from fun and relaxed Kindergarden to the expectations of 1st graders where it wasn't as much fun sitting in a chair all day and learning and working on subjects.

I do know of many horrid stories of bad teachers, so they are out there. It's a parents decision to make the call on when a child needs to be removed from a teachers class. However, there are many cases where children do not need to be removed from a class simply because they don't mesh with the teacher. Life is going to have many moments where you have to learn to work with people you do not like. My sister and brother in law wanted to make sure my niece learned to work out those differences and not run away from them. To learn from them and move on. Better things are to come.

Parents and teachers shouldn't be enemies and it's sad that it seems like this is happening more and more as time goes on.

Presser:

Multiple magazines of high velocity bullets for rifle multiple bullets for hundguns.

We have idea of motive but do not have that info avail for public dissemination.

Last presser today. If further info released today (unlikely) you will find it on CSP website.

Officer Vance is very thorough. He will not release anything until they have a full timeline constructed.

He is being very careful on what is said. He does not want any false information out there, now he has to worry about the President being in town. I thank Officer Vance for his tireless dedication to his community. He has handled this investigation with professionalism and a very delicate devotion to the families.

Lt. J. Paul Vance did release one extra detail: the suicide shot was accomplished with a hand gun. There was no opportunity for error, this was a planned, direct close contact shot. Anatomical position left no chance for error.

As mentioned before, dental records were required for confirmation. AND...remember, Ct. is NOT a "sunshine law" State so many other details may NOT be released UNLESS purloined or released by an authorized party (legal or FAMILIAL!)
