I wonder if this was the trigger, did he want Independence or did he think his mom was trying to push him out into the world.

she had spent months going over his options for engineering schools, Hanoman said.

“They had recently gone to many different colleges looking for the right program for Adam, and the right living situation,” he said.

“He wanted to study engineering. Nancy was going to move wherever he was going to go. Not to live with him but to live near him.

“They were looking at schools in Seattle and one of the Carolinas. “It was his goal to be independent.”

I don't see independence as a trigger for the planned violence that followed his mother's murder. It still makes no sense that he violently travelled to an unfamiliar school, blasted his way into it, confronted and murdered the adults and then executed the little ones. I'm still having a rather difficult time believing Adam acted alone.

This squeezes at my heart for so many reasons. Seeing the President covered with innocent healthy children, allowing for some small amount of healing and joy in a horrible nightmare time...and the innocent trust of those kids. You can tell the girl in pink is so used to adults being friendly and safe that she doesn't think twice about it, even though the President is a virtual stranger. I wonder will she keep that trust, growing up to realize what happened to her sister?

Thank you, Mr. President for letting these little ones smile, if only for a few minutes!

Charles Manson, The Batman killer (Holmes), <----- maybe those two had a similar look?

It is a look of "mania" to me, jmho.

Reminds me of Dylan Klebold. The long face and something about the eyes.

There is something not right with Lanza. Also, I could see that in Loughner. Not too sure about Klebold, but yes there is something wrong with him. Grills looks depressed and likely disturbed.

So basically, this woman who has a difficult child is planning to publicly announce how her kid could be a future mass murderer and that she is afraid of him... How does this make her kid feel??? This woman putting this boys private struggle with control up for public viewing, switching him from drug to drug, and now going on TV for this? Does anyone even think of what this would mean to her son? Her young son?

On one hand I agree. It will probably isolate her son and her family even more which will be detrimental.

On the other hand she sure has sparked some conversation about coping with a child who has a mental illness.

Is calling the cops and making her 13-yr-old son their problem really considered coping?

My take is that the shooter was misdiagnosed as having Aspergers. His actual problem was far more serious.

Not too sure about him having Aspergers either.

Here's a friend of NL's and I think that whatever the diagnosis this symptom he describes (difficulties in bonding, connecting, expressing emotion, being affectionate) is probably rather important in what was wrong with AL:

Another friend, Rich Collins, said Nancy had a hard time dealing with her son’s difficulties — especially his inability to express love.

“She would get very upset that he wouldn’t let her hug him,”...
....
“She was proud of the boys, but she would get upset about Adam not being affectionate,” he said.

Nancy would take Adam to a nearby shooting range to try to forge a bond with him, he said.

“This was something she could do to connect with her son, who couldn’t show emotions toward her,” Collins, 54, told The Post.

I was so moved last night by the memorial, for a short time, color, religion, opinions didn't matter it was about the children. So I mixed a video along with my roommates music. Hope you like it. The name of the song is Angels of Newtown.

The photo of Holmes does not depict the way he looks now. In fact, when that photo was the first one released I mentioned to our prison psychologist how "normal" he looked in comparison to Loughner. A few hours later, another photo of Holmes was released and the similarity to Loughner was stunning.

For those who visit the PP here, you'd know I'm not a big fan of President Obama...but my heart and prayers have been going out to him to stay strong and find the right words in dealing with this.

I love this, what he did that's in this link below. A little detail, but so meaningful to those at that school, etc.

Thank you, President Obama...I think he's been handling this with great grace.

I wanted to use photos prior to their infamy for Holmes. Also, there are not many good face photos of them prior.

More than 60 funeral directors have agreed to help the families of the victims, said Pasquale Folino, president of the Connecticut Funeral Directors Association and vice president of Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home in New London and Niantic.

"Right now we have a team of funeral directors that have volunteered to provide support services, to provide motor equipment, transportation," he said. "Casket companies are providing caskets, vault companies are providing the vaults."

I wish the familys "affluence" would stop being brought up in these articles. Rich or not, there isn't a lot of help available for the mentally ill, or those trying to care for them.

IMO and all that.......

...and I keep hearing about money then during the divorce it was related to financial pressures/disagreements.
