Turning off holiday lights is a patently stupid idea, IMO, and a grab for attention and publicity by the one who suggested it.

agree, not a good idea. darkness is not a good tribute to children who were the lights of their parents lives.

I thought the other day when they were reporting the town had taken down the Christmas decorations, of the one little girl who was so close to death and told her teacher she just wanted to have Christmas.

I think it is a horrible mistake to try to hide the fact that it is Christmas. I also think in the midst of all this tragedy the children who were taken and the adults who are gone are now in the prescence of the one whose birth we all celebrate. Can you imagine being in heaven celebrating this and with the guest of honor? This makes me a little less heartbroken and maybe a little jealous. I hope no one takes offense at this. jmo

Having 3 sons that are close in age to Axxx, I'll bet he was playing his games online with others and might have belonged to an online team. If so, his team mates may not know his real name, but they must have noticed by now that their online buddy completely disappeared. I wish the police would hint about this to the media. Perhaps his online buddies would contact LE and share useful information.

Oh my word. The dog whisperer telling us to turn off our lights. I don't care for his dog training methods and I certainly think turning off the Christmas lights is a terrible idea. :banghead:
Agreed. And uh, pardon me - what's the "Cesar Millan Foundation" have to do with this anyway? besides, that is, keeping his own name in the lights, so to speak?

“She was a country girl” who loved to hunt with a falcon that would scare game she’d blast out of the sky, he said....
"She had “at least a dozen” firearms — mainly larger rifles,” the friend added. He said he didn’t know anything about the pistols."

“Adam learned how to shoot a rifle by the time he was 9 years old,” ...

Nancy owned guns before her divorce?
Who knows with all the faulty reporting.

Other reports claim that purchase of weapons started around 2010.

Right on , I was so much going to post I disagree with the idea, sounds to be more in line with energy saving.

The victims should have lights on forever!

I would agree to light a candle at 930 am and let it burn until I go to bed. This could be done across the world and would produce a continuous light for the new Angels in Heaven!

My neighbor's house went up in flames because of a candle.

How very nice! Happy to hear it.

I'm so afraid "lights out" in a little ones mind is not good, especially with the t.v. and movie meanings of it. It would just compound the situation for them.

ITA. Some children are afraid of the dark. I also have a feeling that this might very well be the first experience that many youngsters in Newtown have had with death, funerals, interment, etc. If they attended a viewing, they might wonder if the deceased child will always be in the dark once the casket is closed. Children will have many questions about the circumstances surrounding death, and each will have their own perceptions of what they see and hear. Being "in the dark" both figuratively and literally might be difficult for some children. :moo:

This is interesting if reports are true. The year they finalized the divorce and also around the same time Adam vanished into his basement .

Nancy Lanza was laid to rest today .. private service for family only (not even friends were allowed or invited) ...

Shooter wasn't buried with her ...

Source: CNN .. just now.
Sad.somehow I would think she would want to be with him. Moo

Who knows what is true anymore. There is been quite a few conflicting statements from friends.

I wish celebrities would just stay out of this entirely.

Most of them yes. The football player that honored Jack Pinto seemed 100% sincere.

It is true that a lot of parents resist having their child labelled as having a disability or special need. I don't think the school can test them without parental permission, but state law may vary on that. Even if they are tested and labeled, many parents do not want the child to receive the kind of education that is indicated by the diagnosis, e.g. special classroom, behavioral plans, etc. Or they don't think the school is offering enough.

Many parents consider and actually act on transferring their kids to other schools in hopes that a change of environment will help. Many also at least consider homeschooling in that situation. It's actually a good thing when parents don't passively accept school recommendations and look for other solutions that the school can't offer.

And, sadly, the divorce rate in couples who have a special needs child is much higher than average. These families are under increased stress, even if the parents basically agree with the approach they are taking with the child. There are tensions due to the child, due to the couple not having enough time together, due to disagreements on the severity of the problem. In my experience, families who have one parent who stays home and another who works very long hours away from home often have a harder time because neither parent really understands the other's challenges.

I understand the stigma that kids are labeled with. My daughter was diagnosised with ADHD when she was in 3rd grade. In our state the school can not tell you to have your child tested however after my husband and I had meetings with her teacher, principal, guidance counsellor and her speech theropist we took the route to have her tested. In our case having her tested was a blessing since it opened up more doors at school to help her. She had an inclusion teacher with her to help in the classroom. The teacher was great for her since my DD would get distracted. She graduated from the special education program in 7th grade. She is now a junior and doing good. She's learned ways to help her stay organised and on task. One example, she is a very talented artist, so we figured out that her doodling in class helps her to stay focused. She carries one of her mini sketch books with her at all times and doodles while in class.

We chose to be very proactive and hands on. However when my MIL found out DD was tested and on aderal (sp) she thought I was the worst parent in the history of civilisation. We just had very different views on how to help your child, considering she transferred my husbands younger sibs to different schools in Brooklyn because she chose to believe that the schools were all lying about how two of the kids had behaviour issues. Come to find out, she was delusional, my husband and I learned first hand when we had his brother living with us for a year after he graduated from high school.

I just wish that our society would be more open about learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, add, mental illness and many more mental health issues. This is a issue that in wish our govt would help fund instead of wasting time and money on silly issues.

JMO

It's not up yet, but video from Inside Edition should be posted shortly. The opening segment of today's show was about AL with photo of him, classmates, and teacher when he was a second grade student at Sandy Hook Elementary.

Did they actually say 2nd grade? That's the one grade we haven't seen verified. Reports said that he attended Sandy Hook for 1st, 3rd, 4th, and half of 5th grade - 2nd grade was strangely left out.

TIA!

Michael Badon's 15 minutes of fame were finished with his wrong opinions about Casey Anthony's case. Media personalities should find other forensic pathologists to interview. Grrrrrrr.
