Ryan Lanza's FB is set to private so I'm not sure where these alleged tributes were posted. The picture on his FB page isn't even the same one shown in the article.

IMHO I think it's far too soon for Ryan Lanza to be professing his love for the murderer. Has he even said anything about the victims? And I'm not sorry for calling the murderer a monster - because that's what he is. People who kill little 6 and 7 year olds are monsters. And the sooner Ryan realizes that, perhaps the victims left behind might be more understanding of his loss. But, nah, I found the article quite insulting to the families and the victims.

Well, if they do exist, I agree but like I said, his FB page is set to private so I'm not sure where NY Post is getting these alleged tributes from. Where are they posted?

~n/t~ great insight; you're the best. The article mentions that Ryan "has joined Facebook victim groups as well as groups that support him called “Support Ryan Lanza” and “Clear Ryan Lanza’s Name.”" Might they have been posted there?

I sure hope that the NY Post, whose parent company is NewsCorp/FOX News, didn't flub this. If they did fall for a fake FB profile, I guess we'll know in a couple hours...

absolutely not. The school district is not a court, has no legislative or police powers (nor should they). They are responsible only for the children currently in their grasp, I mean enrolled.

I'm not sure what the answer is...but trying to make the school districts responsible is definitely not it. Government is seldom the answer to any problems.

There are several different homeschool alternatives. I taught homeschool and homebound kids in CT for two years.
Homeschool children sometimes are linked to their local school districts, course materials and possibly extras like gym or sports are sometimes supplied by the state.

Sometimes homeschool students are literally taken out of the system and are taught as if they are in a private school. Withdrawn and their folders sent to the new school.

The program I taught was basically like a University of Phoenix course delivered and graded online. I was there for instruction. One student had health issues and the other was an professional ballerina. In both cases students did not have any link or association with their local public school. They were literally withdrawn and did not graduate with their class either. We had a graduation ceremony for them.

I am curious why HE would have any space in the NEwtown YearBook. " Camera shy" to me.. this would mean that he was still enrolled @ Newtown High and or receiving some support or materials from the school. I really don't understand that.

When I heard he was homeschooled I too thought like MyBelle said..wow that could be dangerous and maybe schools and local districts should indeed keep track of students- who are taken out. But still that would not apply to AL at all. HE was 20.

On the other hand...special ed. students in CT get schooling and therapeutic programs through 21- which may have served AL well.

Confused and still sad in the town next to Newtown

Yeah he may have posted there. IDK

His FB page has comments from others. Some supporting him and some nasty ones.

He must be going through a difficult time so I can't really judge him.

IMO

I haven't read all the posts, but it's been said Ryan is posting on some of his support pages:

Support Ryan Lanza
Ryan Lanza is a victim too
Clear Ryan Lanza's name
Support For Ryan Lanza
Ryan Lanza (public figure) - 3 pages actually
Ryan Lanza is innocent

There are literally too many Ryan Lanza pages on FB for me to dig into.

I came across an interesting Youtube video of Robbie Parker, father of one of the slain children. It shows him right before speaking to the press. Parker comes out laughing and smiling, then he appears to be getting into "character." He starts breathing deeply, changing his facial expression from happy to sad. The video is not hard to find on Youtube. It has been posted several times. Of course, people are coming up with weird ideas about this, but still, I find Parker's behavior odd. Check out the video and see what you think.

It is probably -shock.

What kind of weird ideas are people coming up with?

I'm embarrassed to admit this but when I initially read the NY Post article and saw that he had joined FB groups called “Support Ryan Lanza” and “Clear Ryan Lanza’s Name,” with the media attempting to not highlight the shooter's name as much as they have in past cases and the initial reporting; I had to do a double-take because in my initial reading I mistakenly thought he joined groups supporting the shooter....

Sounds exactly like the behaviour of Stevie Branch's mother as captured in the first Paradise Lost movie. Its shock, possibly mixed with self medication to deal with the grief.

I think it is appropriate to re-post exactly what I wrote in post #3 of this thread:

The touching stories of all the victims of the Sandy Hook massacre are so important to keep in our hearts and prayers.

It also has brought out the best in humanity; the best example of this is the press conference Saturday night (Dec 20) where Robbie Parker, the father of 6-year-old shooting victim Emilie Parker told reporters, “This world is a better place because she has been in it.” Parker stated that he wished that the tragedy would “not turn into something that defines us, but something that inspires us to be better, to be more compassionate and more humble people.”

The full video of Robbie Parker's remarks about Emile can be viewed here: http://abcnews.go.com/US/video/conne...arker-17986590

Watching it live last Saturday I was in awe of the deep belief, intricate understanding of humanity and love that Robbie Parker displays a mere 24-hours after the tragic death of his daughter Emilie Parker. I think we can all learn from Robbie Parker and, in my opinion, he showcased the best of what humanity has to offer.

Does anyone know if CT / Newtown has red light cameras?
Correct me if I am wrong, I'm basing this off of sleuthing done about the alleged Aurora shooter, but isn't there a way to input a license plate number into the violation database and see any red light camera violation photos associated with the plate number?

A couple of thoughts:

What if NL destroyed the hard drives? Maybe she gave AL an ultimatum before she when to spa, i.e. do something besides play games all day or if you don't I'll take away computers. Maybe he was supposed to do something constructive that was measureable in some way. When NL returned from the spa AL had NOT done whatever his task was and an enraged NL destroyed the hard drives so he could not play games ever!

AL broods all night and is also enraged that his mother had in a way "destroyed his world" and kills her the next morning. Perhaps in his tortured mind he decided he WAS going to play the game for real and goes to the closest place with lots of people to shoot.

Just turning the facts around to get another scenario for the destruction of the hard drives.

I am a lurker and this is my longest post ever! Exhausting.

Everything that I have read seems to indicate that meeting people and having social interactions was more likely to be a cause of anxiety and stress for AL, rather than an experience that made life fun. No doubt it would have been good if he had got help that made it easier for him to engage with friends. But it seems like he needed a more professional support network than just a membership in a writing circle.

Completely agree. There are many people with social anxiety for which engaging and even simply meeting other people cause angst and severe panic. And AL had an extreme form of social anxiety.

With professional help targeted specifically for AL, and a strong familial and community support system, AL's social development might have improved so that he might have been able to interact with people in a healthier manner. But asking him to stop being a loner and just go out and meet some friends -- which might be how AL felt his mom was doing, pushing him to interact with society by enrolling him in college, etc. -- would not have helped someone with his condition and it appears, the pressure to engage the world was too much for him.

Perhaps, but highly unlikely. His mom did not seem like the physically abusive, violent type that would destroy AL's computers just to win an argument. From all accounts, she loved and was proud of her son. She would not have destroyed the one thing that seemed to make him happy -- his playing with his computer games.

Lanza, who was about 6 feet tall, weighed barely 110 pounds!

His weight (or lack of) may have helped push him over the edge. Someone I love dearly has been hospitalized for Anorexia three times. I've been to the treatment centers and therapy sessions.
When anorexics get too thin their brains stop functioning normally. Without the proper nutrition the brain can't work right. It can take weeks and months of supervised "refeeding" to get the brain chemistry back to normal.
I don't mean to imply that anorexics are dangerous to anyone but themselves. But, starving his brain may have pushed this already very disturbed person over the edge.

Agree, his unhealthy weight suggests that he might have had some biochemical imbalances that negatively impacted his brain functions.

Smashing hard drives doesn't seem like a mom thing to do to me, and not really an enraged thing either, it's more a techno-nerd destroying information thing imo. It takes some effort to physically extract the hard drive and destroy it separately. I could see a frustrated, angry mother throwing the whole nine yards in the dumpster, locking it in the garage or threatening to donate it to a charity or something but not disassembling the computer into its component parts before destroying it. Particularly not if she wasn't used to building computers from scratch and familiar with the parts.

Great point! I threatened to toss my boys' game system out of the window NUMEROUS times because they wouldn't shut it down when asked, do their chores/homework, were arguing over whose turn it was, and appeared addicted to it. Other moms have likely thought this too. Maybe Nancy acted on this thought.

It was posted in some article that LE had collected evidence r/t motive. Maybe this was it or it could have been the idea that he was going to be placed in some residential facility.

The world mourns with Connecticut; gifts pour in

By PAT EATON-ROBB and JESSE WASHINGTON, AP
31 minutes ago

NEWTOWN, Conn. — People around the world are grieving with the residents of Newtown over the murders of 26 school children and staff, offering their support by sending toys, money and other gifts.

An outpouring of tens of thousands of teddy bears, Barbie dolls, soccer balls, board games and more has come from toy stores, organizations and individuals worldwide.

"It's their way of grieving. They say, `I feel so bad, I just want to do something to reach out,'" said Bobbi Veach, who was helping Saturday at Edmond Town Hall, where all of Newtown's children were invited to choose a toy.

After the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre Dec. 14, victims were still being buried Saturday. A service was held in Ogden, Utah, for 6-year-old Emilie Parker. Others were held in Connecticut for 7-year-old Josephine Gay and 6-year-old Ana Marquez-Greene...
