OT—-My daughter and SIL are moving to Atlanta in April from San Diego. She got a big promotion at work that requires her to be at the headquarters in Atlanta. Quite a change for them but I think it’s great to get out of your comfort zone.

There’s a beautiful little German town north of Atlanta - Helena.
It’s located in the foothills and is a great little spot to go to when you feel a need to get out of the city for a bit. May not be everyone’s cup of tea, but definitely worth experiencing at least once!!
Moo...

TOKYO, March 3 (Reuters) - Tokyo's contract with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) allows it to postpone the Games until the end of the year, Japan's Olympics minister said on Tuesday, amid concern the coronavirus outbreak could force the IOC to cancel them.

This thread just keeps picking up speed!! Sometimes I think that by the time I get caught up, it’ll all be over and I won’t even know it since WS is my go to for information!!

** My apologies if this event has already ended and this post is no longer relevant. If that is the case, please message me so I can come out of isolation! - Thank you! **

Make sure to let me know too so I can come out of hiding. :)

I thought similarly the other day when I went to the stores to pick up a few things. I expected someone working at the store to come up to me and say "No, dont get those. Masks and disinfectant sprays are no longer the in-thing. Its switched to TP and energy bars, so you better go grab the last few we have". :)

Agree, I don’t know what the record is for the number of threads on Websleuths but I wouldn’t be surprised if it is surpassed by the end of the pandemic!

Dr. Kevin Purcell

We believe the Seattle area seeding event was ~Jan 15 and we're now ~7 weeks later. I expect Seattle now to look like Wuhan around ~1 Jan, when they were reporting the first clusters of patients with unexplained viral pneumonia.” https://t.co/8e0ZkVBdBJ

We are currently estimating ~600 infections in Seattle
“3 weeks later, Wuhan had thousands of infections and was put on large-scale lock-down. However, these large-scale non-pharmaceutical interventions to create social distancing had a huge impact on the resulting epidemic.”

“This suggests that this is controllable. We're at a critical junction right now, but we can still mitigate this substantially.”
If we implement NPIs in Seattle now (not in 3 weeks time).

When Trevor drew this illustration of potential future epidemics the same size as the one in Wuhan (after 10 weeks) neither he (nor I) realized that the lower of the two represents what was happening in Seattle (King and Sno counties). Dr Kevin Purcell on Twitter

Chief Medical Officer Brendan Murphy said Australia’s pandemic plan was still focused on containment and there is "no evidence there is no evidence of sustained or widespread community transmission." | @kaubo https://t.co/C8VpA2mb1Y

China used Draconian measures to control the spread. I don't see how US will be able to do the same thing. What sucks is that CDC used very strict guidelines on who was allowed to be tested, instead of trying to test every possible case regardless of whether they traveled or not.

Why do I have the feeling I didn’t pick up nearly enough TP?? lol

And when did TP climb so high on the survival list?? I mean, I can wipe my a** with lots of things if I have to, but there’s only so many things I can eat!!

**Wouldn’t have this issue if Sears & Roebuck still sent out catalogs!!**
:p
Exactly. You don't really need TP to survive. You could always wipe your bum with something else. In fact I grew up without any TP and I am still alive, obviously.

I just did my weekly shop in London and it was interesting to see what people are stocking up on. Pasta and Water were the main two were shelves looked practically empty.

also all bacteria wipes for surfaces and so on apart from few branded ones all sold out. So had to pay double the price for Dettol wipes instead of store brand ones.

Also Hand Sanitizer gel is gold dust in London now. I have been to about 20 different shops since Saturday and you can not get it anywhere.

I used to hold the CDC in high regard, but it doesn't seem to the agency it once was. It has been incredibly slow with testing in USA. Seems like things are starting to move now, and with more testing, it looks like we'll see the numbers jump - so brace ourselves for that.

As Coronavirus Numbers Rise, C.D.C. Testing Comes Under Fire

"Most disturbing of all: Did a failure to provide adequate testing give the coronavirus time to gain a toehold in the United States?

'The incompetence has really exceeded what anyone would expect with the C.D.C.,' said Dr. Michael Mina, an epidemiologist at Harvard University. 'This is not a difficult problem to solve in the world of viruses.'”

I think this is fair and a good idea, to limit so everyone can have some.

Me too. And is why I wished the state, local, and fedderal governments would have by now put in emergency procedures to force all suppliers of masks to funnel them to the right people that need them first.

I know its easier said than done, but if I was in control of the supply shortages, I would make a list of who needs masks first. Like Doctors, Nurses, Hospitals, first, and then the trade industries like Painters, etc who needs masks for their jobs. Then finally the general public, and then somehow force all the suppliers to funnel through a divy out process where the people that need them get their allocation first.

You cant blame General Public "Joe" when he goes to a General Public store and looks and sees masks on the shelf. Of course "Joe" is going to see them and buy them if he wants because it is a general public store for the general public, of which he is.

Instead of the officials I have seen complaining about the general public buying up supplies at the general public stores, then those same officials can take actions to force supplies where they are most needed.

IMO of course.

I completely agree. I expect plans in place. Disappointed to be disappointed.
