I am an adjunct online instructor for a university on an “as needed” basis. I’m starting to think my skills may be in more demand in the future if more schools look at online options.
Yes, indeed!

How South Florida Catholic churches are changing services because of coronavirus fears

The Archdiocese of Miami issued a press release yesterday outlining some “suggested practices” following two confirmed cases of coronavirus.

Here are some of the changes:
  • Holy water receptacles at the church doors will be emptied
  • There will be a temporary suspension of "minor chalices" used to distribute sacramental wine
  • Ministers will be encouraged to use anti-bacterial soap before and after the Holy Communion

Yes. Im a big fan of this sort of thing. The technology is there, so it can be used today.

Most online live video conference applications have a way where the classmates can "raise their hand" to ask questions on the fly during teacher presentations, or the instructor can limit the questions till the very end of the class and then take them through Instant Messaging applications.

This is a good way to minimize the risk IMO. And if people get used to it, they may find that when the crisis is over, the schools may still want to keep virtual classes around for a long time to come now. At least to supplement their normal curriculum because they can tap into worldwide experts on certain subjects.

NCAA responds to players group's request for March Madness without fans because of Coronavirus

National College Players Association which started this all:

"In the wake of the emerging coronavirus pandemic, the NCAA and its colleges should take precautions to protect college athletes. They should also make public which actions will be taken and when. Precautions should include cancelling all auxiliary events that put players in contact with crowds such as meet and greets and press events. Athletic programs should also take every possible measure to sanitize buses and airplanes used to transport players. In regard to the NCAA's March Madness Tournament and other athletic events, there should be a serious discussion about holding competitions without an audience present. Google just cancelled a summit in California and Amazon is encouraging its employees to avoid all nonessential travel because of Coronavirus concerns. The NCAA and its colleges must act now, there is no time to waste."

The NCAA responded writing:

"NCAA staff continues to prepare for all NCAA winter and spring championships, but we are keenly aware of Coronavirus and will continue to monitor in coordination with state/local health authorities and the CDC."

Second wave...?????

BEIJING, March 3 (Reuters) - Worrying cases of recovered coronavirus patients in China testing positive again for the infection have raised questions among doctors about the criteria being used for discharging people from hospital.

Reuters: While nearly 3,000 people have died, more than 47,000 have recovered and been discharged from hospital. But weeks later, doctors in different parts of the country are reporting some people have tested positive for the pathogen again.

Reuters: This has raised disturbing questions about the true state of people's recovery and their potential to spread the virus without showing symptoms and has led to calls for more stringent scrutiny of people being discharged.

China doctors seek tougher discharge criteria after positive coronavirus tests

Ugh.... I’ve mentioned before that I’ve wondered if this virus just goes into remission. And hasn’t it already been stated that getting it a second time before your lungs recover makes it a LOT DEADLIER?

IMO:

TOO MANY ASSUMPTIONS!

** I’ll be back later - need to go get more TP.... **

I’ve spent much of the past 24 hours in Kirkland, Wash. — an epicenter of coronavirus infection — as we pieced together how the region spent weeks with just 1 case, only to have that number suddenly jump to 13, including 2 deaths.
Some key details:

Researchers now think the virus has been quietly spreading through the region for 6 weeks. That undetected spread came as the government limited testing even as doctors were eager to find out whether their patients had the virus.

Coronavirus May Have Spread in U.S. for Weeks, Gene Sequencing Suggests

One doctor in Seattle described having a sick patient who had visited China, but officials determined they did not meet testing criteria due to their travel timeline.

Testing is now expanding, and the findings and impacts are troubling:
• 2 dead
• 5 in critical condition
• 6 cases linked to a nursing facility in Kirkland that is home to dozens of elderly people.
• ¼ of Kirkland firefighters quarantined.

“We’re really aggressively sampling in Washington State now, because we feel like it has been here and we haven’t had the ability to lab test."

But some patients still aren’t getting tested. We talked to family members of one woman at the Kirkland nursing home who has been coughing for days. Her daughters want her tested, but they say she hasn’t been.
6/8

We talked to one person (by phone) who was in isolation and being tested and had been sick for weeks. As he spoke, he coughed and had to pause to catch his breath. “Hold on, I’ve got to take a deep breath, slow it down a bit.”
“It’s been a nightmare.”
7/8

We also reviewed 100s of pages of records on the nursing home linked to 6 of the 13 cases. Among the findings: In 2019, investigators found the facility had failed to ensure that staff followed “transmission-based precautions.”

P.S. And when I say "we" in this thread, there are a lot of people making this journalism. For this story, I was amazed at what @sherifink, @nickatnews and @jackhealynyt were able to find. Follow them.

I don’t have an exact count, but it’s becoming rather apparent I don’t have nearly enough!!

Seeing all the TP panic buying made me think about what all the trees across the US are going to look like around Halloween if this all blows over fairly quickly!

AND how slow the TP industry will be for awhile...
