Britons returning from anywhere in Italy advised to self-isolate if unwell

People who have returned to the UK from any part of Italy in the past fortnight are being advised to self-isolate if they begin to feel unwell.

Previously, the advice applied only to travellers who had visited the northern regions where the first deaths from the coronavirus were recorded, but the government has now announced that the guidance is being extended to cover the whole country.

I realized today that the itch on my nose would actually Go away if I ignored it. :D
This is so funny because it's so true. Oh, but the torture of waiting for it to go away.

The number of confirmed covid-19 cases in Australia has climbed past 50, and include a baby diagnosed in South Australia and a tourist in the Northern Territory.

At Liverpool hospital, 23 staff and five patients have been identified as potential close contacts of a confirmed case. Elsewhere, in Brisbane and Sydney, nursing home staff have been forced into isolation after coming into contact with the virus.

Australia’s chief medical officer, Professor Brendan Murphy, has warned the worst-case scenario for Australia was “millions of people being infected over a period of several weeks”. However, he said the country’s public health systems were well prepared if widespread outbreaks occurred.

What does this tell us about warmer weather and the virus? It's currently summer in Australia.

Excellent. You found it. Thanks so much.

Im going to try to follow this ship in next few days to see where they end up. I hope they stay far enough out to sea where the wind doesnt take germs to the California coast. So far, they seem to be plenty far enough off the coast. But who really knows how far is enough.

Its very interesting to me, so thank you so much for finding it.
BBM

The germs are already here :(

(I do love that map you posted though)

so I have good news and bad news and more good news

first my oncologist tells me I am no longer immune-suppressed so I'm not in the vulnerable population! yay!
second there is no hand sanitizer anywhere in this city (we should've grabbed it last time we were shopping)
third I already have three bottles of hand sanitizer in this house so we'll be alright
Yay! Great news!

The @who said today "there's no reason to believe this virus would behave differently in different temperatures," but they're looking forward to getting more data as seasons change. #COVID19

Vice President Mike Pence, who’s heading up the Trump administration’s response to the coronavirus, flew to 3M headquarters Thursday to meet the maker of the highly sought-after N95 face masks. The company is slated to produce 35 million more masks per month to meet growing demand.

Maybe time for the long awaited cross country car road trip. Then again, having to stay in motels and eat at restaurants along the way may defeat the purpose and give even more risk. Gosh, Im so sorry to hear of so many that have/had travel plans. Its a tough call to make.
Honestly I'd love to do that drive! Not enough time off of work though....

Meanwhile, the Catholic Church in Western Australia has abandoned centuries of tradition by making changes to daily church rituals.

The measures include removing holy water vessels from churches and cathedrals.

The sign of peace handshake will also be banned, and the ceremony at the end of holy communion will stop.
Communion bread – representing the "body of Christ" – will not be placed on parishioners' tongues, and the "blood of Christ" wine will not be shared.

U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, flanked by top health officials, said the country is working on meeting its goal of 1 million tests (or individual samples) available. That would equate to about 400,000 people, by the end of the week.

At an event hosted by lobbying group PhRMA Wednesday, Gilead CEO Daniel O’Day said there is still no indication of the cost of the antiviral treatment, remdesivir, but it has taken 10 years and billions of dollars to produce.

“It’s hard to talk about pricing without knowing the value to society,” he said.

LOL. Maybe try a Q-tip. Dipped in hand sanitizer.

Great idea. Its funny how we sometimes dont even think of simple solutions like that.

But you may have just invented something. The new "Anti-Coronavirus Hand Extension Face Scratcher". :)

Something that attaches to the back of your hand and has a button you can push that automatically extends a small scratching device sort of like a back scratcher but smaller.

To be seen on the next episode of Shark Tank. :)

A fifth person in Illinois has tested positive for the new coronavirus, state health officials announced Thursday.

The person is a Cook County resident in his 20s who flew into O'Hare Airport earlier this month after traveling from Italy where he caught the illness, health officials said. He's being hospitalized at Rush University Medical Center in isolation. The state is awaiting confirmation of the positive result from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

I've done it. Several times in fact - different highways and byways. (NJ to CA) (NJ to OR) This country has so many beautiful places. Put it on you bucket list for sure, for when you do have time.

This is SERIOUSLY behind the 8 ball!!! What on earth.

How about having some federal and state laws to start shutting stuff down and advising everyone to limit public exposure?? It’s each person, company, group, state, country for itself right now... and the US has dropped the ball.

Besides..... didn’t Pence et al say masks don’t help? (I realize these masks likely are for the healthcare workers but those output numbers seem to indicate otherwise)
