Well, the public needs to be educated why schools would remain open. I learned a lot about the complications (and health risks!) yesterday by watching a press conference where the speaker outlined the issues about school closing. I understood the issues after they were explained.
When schools are closed, where are the kids? Who is taking care of the little ones? Mom has to use sick time to watch a healthy kid at home?
And where do the big ones go? To the mall, the movies, the pizza joint....where the general public is? If kids are too contagious to be in school, wouldn't they be contagious in public areas?
And, it seems, that when kids get the virus, they really don't get that sick. They recover. But if they spread it to someone in the general public who is elderly, has health issues, is pregnant, etc., then those kids put others at risk. Seems safer to have them at school.
I'm on the fence on this one, but definitely keeping my mind open to listening to reasoning about decisions.
