very irresponsible. Shocked Seattle Health Dept, the CDC and the Mayor haven't canceled it. Corporations aren't going to cancel they fear loss of $$$.
One of the 3 conventions cancelled for Orange county Convention Center (Orlando,FL) was a large
Health Organization of 45,000 attendees and
President Trump was the special guest speaker.
Wonder who cancelled first, the group or Trump?

Can someone explain how vaccines help against scarlet fever? Scarlet fever is an infection due to strep throat. I've never heard of any vaccine for this?

FWIW my sister is 40 and had scarlet fever as a child. I had strep a ton growing up but no scarlet fever. I got incredibly ill as an adult from strep though. It took me years to recover.

Hmmm, well now that I think about it, you are absolutely right! I don’t think there was any vaccine specifically for Scarlet fever that she’d received....

NOTE: Scarlett fever has no vaccine, do not pay any attention to MJPeony’s incorrect recollection!!
A Group A Streptococcal Infection | CDC

I suppose in my head I must have thought it was somehow related to the measles virus.... well now I feel dumb because I’m certain the pediatrician explained the strep connection at that time to me  My brain doesn’t retain medical information like it used to. Thank you for setting me straight beatrixpotter.

We are not the same country that put that man on the moon...they starved that govt. They said they would and they did, with the consent and blessing of a good portion of the public.

I had to belly laugh at this one. Shows my age I guess?

What the aspirations gave us. But those of us that were born in the 50's are so well aware, the entire computer power to land the first man on the moon is 10 times less powerful than a simple $1.00 calculator at the dollar store. It's amazing the benefits that "starved" the government - and yes, with the consent and blessing of a good portion of the pubic" AGREE! Hands down! Those were the days. :swoon: with memories of all coming together for the cause.

But I digress... still giggling... at what the input for the technology to reach such a goal changed the entire world to race to. Guess you had to be there.

Ugh you guys. I’m not feeling confident about how the US is handling this.
Agree. Our leaders and experts are messing up big-time, IMO. I am weary from gently informing friends and neighbors of data and facts, only to hear contrary, rose-glassed views in return. I don't get the denial, just don't get it. I am frustrated and angry, feeling totally powerless.

Comic Con Seattle, March 12-15, 2020

The Perfect Storm.
My friends go every year and they have the time of their life, lots of socializing, parties, drinking, reactional drugs, sharing pipes, and hookups and orgies.
Which is fine for consenting adults NOT in the middle of an outbreak.
Every year a flu or bug goes around called the comic Comic-Con Crud or bug...this is gonna be a petri dish. yikes. I think postponing a few months might be wise. No one is gonna keep six feet distance and not hang out with their friends. The whole point is to socialize and meet new people.

Well, I just learned what works to start to convince close family members that there is a crisis out there. They basically have to see for themselves.

My wife just got back from a run to Walmart and I asked her if she could try to pickup some extra Clorox Wipes while she was there. She came home and said she could not get anything like that because the whole section of shelf was bare where they normally had that just a few days ago. She even looked apologetic for doubting what I have been trying to tell her that we will start to see impacts.

I was nice and didnt rub it in and just thanked her for trying. :) It was no real surprise to me that she couldnt find any.

Did you try TrueValue/ACE/similar hardware store? Maybe people won't be onto them yet. :) I myself got a bumper crop from Costco/Amazon the last time there were sales, but those are currently tense areas to try to locate the same.

I had some mega flu about 20 years ago, that literally put me out for 18 months or so.

Before flu: did yoga, got kids to school, went to work, came home, fixed dinner, cleaned house, worked on sewing projects, bike ride, walked dog, went to bed.

After flu: kids to school, went to work, came home, went to bed. Kids, fixed their own dinner, did whatever they did. Even on the weekends, I could barely walk around the block, and I was beat tired.

It was some major chronic fatigue syndrome flu. I have never missed a flu shot since then.

It happened to me in 1996 or 1997. The winter. Everyone in my family got it and no one could help each other for at least a week. But we were mostly bed ridden. It was so hard to get up to pee, try to take a shower or make something to eat. Everyone else seemed to recover after two weeks. But I did not fully recover. I was sort of sick - recurrent swollen glands, swollen spleen, exhaustion - for a couple years. I thought I had AIDS. They tested me for that, twice. They tested me for toxoplasmosis, TB, mono, etc., etc. Could not find anything.

this will come back and bite them in the butt....
I'm still shaking my head from the Orange Co.
Fl. press conference today and the county Health Director admitted they've been waiting two weeks for tests from CDC. A city (Orlando)
that has over 6 million visitors each month
and they have o test kits.
does not instill confidence for when this hits.

I was a young child playing outside on a summer day. I heard my mother yell to our neighbor asking her how her son Howard was doing. Howard had polio. She yelled back that Howard had died. The families on our street were nervous wrecks. I remember going to our little neighborhood school and getting the polio vaccine in a sugar cube. No one had to be talked into going or even questioned it. We were so relieved to have a reprieve from that awful disease.

That's horrible. :(

I find this somewhat slanted to proprietary products, as if Clorox Co made a special effort to get all their branded products "tested" as if they own a patent on bleach.

Yet generic BLEACH is exactly the same as about 30% of those Clorox branded products.
