Officials confirm 8 cases of coronavirus in Houston area
March 5, 2020
Updated: March 6, 2020 6:35 p.m.
“UPDATE (March 6, 6 p.m.): Two more cases of the new coronavirus have been reported in Fort Bend County, health officials said.

The patients, two women in their 60s, were exposed to the virus as part of a trip to Egypt, the same trip that all of the other area people diagnosed with the pneumonia-like disease made in February. The women are self-quarantined at home, one with mild symptoms and the other no longer symptomatic.”

Houston area COVID-19 cases total 8 after 2 new Fort Bend Co. cases

“If a person has not been around anyone with COVID-19 or has not visited an ongoing COVID-19 outbreak area, they are not at risk.

Dr. Minter, Director of Fort Bend County Health & Human Services and Local Health Authority said, “we know the COVID-19 situation is evolving quickly and is concerning to our residents. We strongly encourage the community to heed travel alerts issued by the CDC and the State Department and to practice excellent personal hygiene habits. Remember that all of these cases are all travel-related and there is no evidence of community spread at this time.””
I'm going to make a prediction that Egypt's numbers are undervalued....just saying.... :);)

Well that's helpful. How considerate of him. JMO

He doesn’t seem to understand the magnitude of this. This is serious. But maybe he doesn’t understand because our government has decided to forego test kits from the WHO in favor of making their own and then not using them.

If a tiny country like Holland has 188 cases, what does a huge nation like the US have? In reality?

People aren’t alarmed because we have no idea of what’s really going on.

A couple weeks late...

Amid a coronavirus outbreak in the United States, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is encouraging older people and people with severe chronic medical conditions to "stay at home as much as possible" New CDC guidance says older adults should 'stay at home as much as possible' due to coronavirus - CNN
I’m sure it’s difficult, if not nearly impossible, to determine when to issue such recommendations so that people take the advice seriously. As it is, even now, people in general aren’t taking this seriously at all from what I’m seeing in the community... and I live in San Antonio where a large number of evacuees were quarantined for weeks.

I work in health care with the elderly. Many still say things like “it’s just a bad flu”, “the flu kills a lot more”, “there’s no point in trying to avoid getting it”, and so on. I know several older adults (50-75+) who left on cruises as recently as yesterday. I know people who think it’s a fantastic time to plan a trip to France, Italy, Germany, etc “because tickets are super cheap!!”

Americans in general won’t stand for the drastic measures implemented in China to squash the spread of this virus, so we cannot realistically expect to see a flattening of our curve like what has been reported in China.

The general public doesn’t seem to understand, or want to understand, how crucial it is to slow the spread of this virus so as not to overwhelm our healthcare system.

It also baffles me when I see frustration over “we want answers!!” to things like “what is the incubation period” and “how long does it live outside the body” and “how is it transmitted”. It’s like it’s beyond comprehension that WE DON’T KNOW FOR SURE. There doesn’t have to be some giant conspiracy or complete lack of leadership or anything like that... we just don’t know the answers to a lot of these questions. It is maddeningly frustrating for scientists and doctors not to be able to give definitive answers, but it’s hugely unrealistic to expect definitive answers about a strain of this virus never seen in humans prior to December.

“Denver

• A man in his 40s. Denver officials earlier Friday said the patient had recently traveled from Vancouver and is a parent of a student at St. Anne's Episcopal School in Denver. The school sent students home early Friday to disinfect the building. The student was not showing symptoms but was in quarantine — along with the rest of the family — at their home.

• A woman in her 70s who was exposed during international travel.

Douglas County

• A school-aged female under 18 years old from Highlands Ranch who was exposed during international travel from a trip to Philippines. The student did not attend classes after returning from Philippines. She is in isolation in her home.

• A woman in her 40s from Castle Rock who was exposed during international travel to Italy. She is in isolation at her home.

• A woman in her 70s in Castle Rock who was exposed during international travel.

Eagle County

• A woman in her 50s who was exposed during international travel.

El Paso County

• A man in his 40s. The El Paso County Public Health Medical Director said Friday evening the man who tested positive immediately self-isolated when he began to show symptoms. His immediate family members are also quarantined.

Summit County

• A man in his 30s who traveled to Keystone from out of state. He is recovering at a hospital in Jefferson County, officials said Friday. He had flown to Colorado through Denver International Airport but was not showing symptoms while at the airport. He began showing symptoms while in Summit County, where he was staying at the Slopeside Condominiums in Keystone with his fiancee and two other people.”

Public health officials are warning that no one knows how deeply the virus will spread, in part because the federal government’s flawed rollout of tests three weeks ago has snowballed into an embarrassing fiasco of national proportions.”

Check out native bees versus honey bees which are an imported domestic agricultural animal. Most of the native bees that are on endangered list are native to Hawaii but I believe there is one continental North American bee on the list whose name escapes me at the moment. Plant flowers native to your area to save your native bees.
While We Worry About Honeybees, Other Pollinators Are Disappearing

About to go to small town grocery for routine weekly shop. Will be interesting to see what they are short on if anything. I prefer this store because it’s never packed and everyone is good about staying to their sides of the aisle.
I'm sorry to go O/T again. I see that Oat milk has the least environmental impact. Will try and find a low carb version. Thanks to everyone for the information. We'll have to start a new thread somewhere about lessening environmental impact. @Tbone144 Thanks. Everything, besides grass, that we've planted feeds others in several separate gardens (humming birds, bees, butterflies) and other plantings like fruit trees feed us, squirrels (figs) and bees and rats (citrus). We also have a couple of gorgeous black racer snakes around. Again my last post O/T and I'm sorry to go O/T.

Aren't you in California? We most certainly do.

That’s all they need. Ugh

Nope. We don’t have mandated sick pay in this country. So now I’m staying home. No eating out. No coffee runs.
