I'm not even sure how long my supplies will last but I've also been getting extras for my elderly parents (dad is sick too - cannot risk him catching it!).

Egypt announces 33 new Covid-19 cases on cruise ship Egypt announces 33 new Covid-19 cases on cruise ship

Guardian news on Twitter
There are a bunch of cruise ships cruising up and down the Nile, in addition to Feluccas (small open sailboats) which Europeans seem to love. The conditions are unsanitary. Also, the overnight train from Cairo to Luxor and back. When I was there, those trains were not fit for humans. I say, trouble right there in river city, my friends.

Modelling paper shows that the travel ban implemented in Hubei was too late to curb transmission to most of the rest of China, but did buy time for the rest of the world https://t.co/YYEUll5qpG

For those I know and love...

I think for some people it is just TOO MUCH mentally to really absorb. It’s too scary.
There is nothing we can do to stop it.
People are just trying to get through the day to day responsibilities. (Take care of kids, go to work, etc.)
This is so true. We see the same disparity of responses with looming natural disasters- fires & hurricanes, etc. Some choose to read every minute-by-minute update & speculate how bad it’s going to get, others monitor periodically, trying to carry-on as normally as possible. Some stick their head in the sand altogether. Truly to each his own. As for me, while “waiting” for a hurricane or virus to make a direct hit or miss, I have to feel informed, yet uninterrupted. Getting immersive just raises blood pressure & adrenaline & that’s just not good for my health- or for that matter, my best immune response. My family feels well-informed about COVID-19 & comfortable carrying on as usual, with common-sense cleanliness that we do anyway during every flu season. To each his own, but the in-depth coverage of every new reported diagnoses is really not constructive imvho, jmo, moo, etc.

and it wasn't an alarmist text at all
just wondering what everyone was doing to prepare and joking around like don't forget to get toilet paper
I suspect it is just a matter of time before your family begin to take your message seriously.

This is a disgrace, unacceptable and frankly, beyond comprehension!
whose fault is this the CDC?, and if so, how the hell did they fall down
on the job??? if not the CDC, who dropped the ball-- the United States
of America is conducting itself like a third world country!!!

I believe the president is responsible as well-failed leadership
in this life and death situation

Coronavirus spreads in French parliament.

(Reuters) - A second member of France's National Assembly has been taken to hospital after contracting coronavirus and five other lawmakers are being tested for the illness, the lower house's presidency said in a statement on Saturday.

The Assembly did not name the two legislators who have caught the disease but local media in the eastern region of Alsace have reported that the first of the two lawmakers is Jean-Luc Reitzer, who represents one of the departments most affected by the outbreak and is currently under intensive care.

The second lawmaker is a woman, according to the statement by the parliament. The Assembly said on Friday that a snack bar worker had also contracted the virus.

Netanyahu calls virus ‘pandemic’ as Israel plans restrictions on some US flights

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the coronavirus was a pandemic more severe than any disease outbreak in the past century, as a senior official said Israel was likely hours away from placing restrictions on flights arriving from some parts of the United States.

“First of all, this is a global pandemic, whether the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) calls it such or not. It is a matter of days or hours. It is doubtful whether there has been a similar pandemic in the last 100 years. It seems that the rate of infection is greater than we figured.”

He went on: “The assumption that the virus will disappear or evaporate in hot weather is unproven. At the moment, this has no basis that we can build on. The virus is currently spreading to Africa. There is no vaccine and anti-viral drugs are ineffective. Economies are starting to be hurt. Governments are ordering their gates closed. This is important for the supply of products for all economies. Nobody knows how the pandemic will end.”

The director-general of the Health Ministry, Moshe Bar Siman-Tov, indicated Saturday night that Israel was about to place restrictions on flights arriving from some parts of the US. Israel would not take action against all flights from the US, but would act on a state-by-state basis, he said.

Specifying flights from New York, Washington, DC, and California, he said a decision would be announced later Saturday or Sunday.

Iran threatens use of 'force' to stop travel between its cities
''TEHRAN, Iran - Iranian authorities warned Friday they may use “force” to limit travel between cities and announced the new coronavirus has killed 124 people amid 4,747 confirmed cases in the Islamic Republic.

Health Ministry spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour offered the figures at a televised news conference. He did not elaborate on the threat to use force, though he acknowledged the virus now was in all of Iran's 31 provinces.

The threat may be to stop people from using closed schools and universities as an excuse to go to the Caspian Sea and other Iranian vacation spots. Semiofficial news agencies in Iran posted images of long traffic lines as people tried to reach the Caspian coast from Tehran on Friday, despite authorities earlier telling people to remain in their cities.''

I really believe the failed roll out of testing and lack of testing is intentional. Thousands of positive tests will overwhelm our healthcare system. The powers that be don’t want to know because A- medically we will be unable to do anything about it. B- we are not a country that locks up, rounds up or otherwise detains our citizens easily.

IMHO the medical profession and government have decided the head in the sand is the best way. Smh.

I have to respectfully disagree on the medical front. I'm watching their twitter accounts and they are blowing it up trying to influence government to act....
