All of Saudi Arabia's coronavirus measures announced today:
- Qatif in Eastern Province on lockdown
- All schools and universities across the kingdom closed until further notice
- Travel ban to and from the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Lebanon, Syria, South Korea, Egypt, Italy, and Iraq

BNO Newsroom on Twitter
I think they're being smartly prudent.

Maybe a stupid question, but why can't the cruisers stay on the ship, and quarantine in place?. Supplies and food could be loaded as needed? IMO

The reason I am posting so much from the article is that it has a paywall. I hope you don't mind.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2020/03/08/coronavirus-live-updates/

"U.S. can impose lockdown similar to Italy’s on parts of the country, health official says
The United States could follow Italy’s recent plan to restrict a large portion of its population to prevent the new coronavirus from spreading, according to the government’s top health expert.

Anthony S. Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health, told Fox News’s Chris Wallace on Sunday that it’s possible for the country to implement a policy similar to Italy’s. The boot-shaped country launched a plan early Sunday morning that will limit about 16 million people in much of the northern areas from moving about."
I think this is exactly what should be happening here in the US, and elsewhere imo. It will cause untold hardship for many, but such hardship will be 10X worse if implementing such measures is not done NOW.

But not everybody can afford to be fired. If you are fired, and have no source of income, and going to end up on the street-that's not something people would want.
And....there is not only the fear of being fired, but the fear of being smeared. That is also part of the current atmosphere.

Any news on how the 45 day old baby is doing? What about the two young boys in Japan, iirc.

Brilliantly stated.

Oops, meant to quote @drama_farmer : "Maybe a stupid question, but why can't the cruisers stay on the ship, and quarantine in place?. Supplies and food could be loaded as needed? IMO"

Because they just spread the virus among themselves and even the healthy ones get it. Reports on the last ship that it was the meal trays carrying the bug. And/or the ship staff. And/or the ventilation system. Eep!

I think SHE jumped on it pretty fast.:D I’m just teasing @Henry2326, but I’m happy with the action she’s taken today. We doubled and went from 7 cases (4 new cases) to 14 since yesterday.

The Oregon Health Authority announced seven new cases of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 Sunday morning, doubling the number of known cases in Oregon.

All seven new cases are the result of community spread or contact with another known case. None are the result of international travel. Three were hospitalized at the time they were diagnosed.

Gov. Kate Brown declares coronavirus state of emergency, announces 7 new Oregon cases

Gov. Brown declares a State of Emergency for Oregon

State of Emergency declared for Oregon due to COVID-19

Ugh, yeah. I hate “doubling” word.

Colorado went from two to eight, all travel related and so far no community spread, but...

So going back to Santa Clara county, was that 5 new with no known source transmission?? Going back to that.

They already tried that on a Diamond Princes and got lots more people infected during the quarantine.

What are you even going to lock down?

So, I was overall really shocked by this presser. I feel like I’m in the twilight zone. For those that may not know, he and the Trump administration have a historically horrible relationship. Given where we are in California right now (lack of testing, lack of government oversight of safety precautions and consistent public health advice, and high numbers of positive cases despite insufficient testing), I really don’t understand his effusive praise of how things are being handled.

Felt like he was gaslighting Californians. Twilight Zone.

@MJPeony Newsom knows what will happen if he isn’t effusive in his praise. It’s possible he’s trying to avoid that for CA. I think there are others involved in this who are attempting to walk a very fine line between selling their souls and retaining integrity...for the greater good. At least I hope that’s the case with Newsom...for California’s sake.

U.S. State Department

Cruise Ship Passengers

"Passengers on Cruise Ships"

"U.S. citizens, particularly travelers with underlying health conditions, should not travel by cruise ship. CDC notes increased risk of infection of COVID-19 in a cruise ship environment. In order to curb the spread of COVID-19, many countries have implemented strict screening procedures that have denied port entry rights to ships and prevented passengers from disembarking. In some cases, local authorities have permitted disembarkation but subjected passengers to local quarantine procedures. While the U.S. government has evacuated some cruise ship passengers in recent weeks, repatriation flights should not be relied upon as an option for U.S. citizens under the potential risk of quarantine by local authorities."

"This is a fluid situation. CDC notes that older adults and travelers with underlying health issues should avoid situations that put them at increased risk for more severe disease. This entails avoiding crowded places, avoiding non-essential travel such as long plane trips, and especially avoiding embarking on cruise ships. Passengers with plans to travel by cruise ship should contact their cruise line companies directly for further information and continue to monitor the Travel.state.gov website and see the latest information from the CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/quarantine/cruise/index.html. "

So why didn't this first come from the CDC and not the State Department?

The workers on the ship will be exposed and some have contracted the virus already. Also it puts the other passengers at greater risk of cross contamination by being in a small space with workers that service the whole population. I suppose that workers could be divided into those that care for the infected and those that don't. It just seems like a petri dish to me. Additionally, if they require a ventilator or more advanced care, they may be too far away from a hospital and may die. Also IV's for hydration, etc would need to be administered and monitored by healthcare personnel. BTW, I don't think any question regarding this virus is stupid @drama_farmer

My feelings exactly. You can get more flies with honey than with vinegar.
