As the State Department is now involved with it's appropriate, but surprising warning about cruise ships, I think the politicians may be backing off.

At least I hope they are.

Dr. Faucci and Dr Gottlieb need to be the absolute last voices on this issue.

Dr. Faucci has been a legend in medical communities for decades. He isn't just "a member of the committee" . He IS the committee.

There is no reason to bring out Pence or especially Carson any more.
Carson was painful to watch and listen to this morning. I almost forgot he was a part of the Cabinet, haven't heard much from him. Did they roll him out there as the administration's spokesperson because he is a brain surgeon? I would personally hope for more from a pediatric neurologist, but he gave us nothing but rehearsed, pat answers. . JMO

It was bound to happen....but why oh why couldn't they have done it last week??

Our school district in Westchester County, NY just closed all public schools for 9 days because of a faculty member who tested positive.

My daughter has a friend who is a runway model. She was in Milan and recently flew to India. She has been quarantined for 2 weeks - standard practice in India for people arriving from Italy.

Britons are allowed out of Milan and surrounding areas. When they get home to the UK, they will not be met or screened. The govt would like it if they would self-isolate for 14 days but there is no
obligation to do so.

Please help me figure that one out.

Results
"The results showed that SARS coronavirus in the testing condition could survive in serum, 1:20 diluted sputum and feces for at least 96 h, whereas it could remain alive in urine for at least 72 h with a low level of infectivity. The survival abilities on the surfaces of eight different materials and in water were quite comparable, revealing reduction of infectivity after 72 to 96 h exposure. Viruses stayed stable at 4 degrees C, at room temperature (20 degrees C) and at 37 degrees C for at least 2 h without remarkable change in the infectious ability in cells, but were converted to be non-infectious after 90-, 60- and 30-min exposure at 56 degrees C, at 67 degrees C and at 75 degrees C, respectively. Irradiation of UV for 60 min on the virus in culture medium resulted in the destruction of viral infectivity at an undetectable level.

The survival ability of SARS coronavirus in human specimens and in environments seems to be relatively strong. Heating and UV irradiation can efficiently eliminate the viral infectivity."

And this will be why mandatory measures will be required.....

San Francisco officials have advised people to stay away from large gatherings. Local pro sports teams are holding their events anyway. San Francisco Is Taking an Aggressive Approach to Coronavirus. Not Everyone Is Listening.

Defying the advice of Santa Clara County, the San Jose Sharks hockey team played on Thursday & declined to cancel their Saturday & Sunday home games. The San Jose Earthquakes, a Major League Soccer team, also declined to cancel their Saturday home game.

Oh ain’t it the truth, ain’t it the truth!!! The defiance is strong here! As I mentioned, the conference I was required to go this weekend was not cancelled. It was huge. At a conference center here in the Bay Area. Probably about 1,000 people. It was absolute NUTS it wasn’t canceled.

Reckless.

Leaked coronavirus plan to quarantine 16m sparks chaos in Italy
Italy has been plunged into chaos after details of a plan to quarantine more than 16 million people in the north amid an escalating coronavirus outbreak were leaked to the press, sending thousands into panic as they tried to flee south.

The whole of Lombardy, including its financial capital of Milan, and 14 provinces across the worst-affected northern regions, have been shut down until 3 April as Italy grapples to contain the spread of a virus as deaths rose from 233 to 366, with 6,387 current cases overall.

Thousands crowded train stations in Lombardy or jumped into their cars after details of a draft decree banning people from leaving or entering the region were revealed by Corriere della Sera late on Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday morning dozens of police officers and medics wearing masks and hazmat suits waited in Salerno, in Campania, for passengers who had boarded overnight trains from Lombardy. The passengers will be registered and obliged to self-quarantine as fears mount over the virus’s spread in the south.

My friends daughter, husband and two sons are currently living in Germany. They traveled to the Lombardy area two weeks ago. They wrapped up the site seeing and headed back to Germany, even had several escape routes planned. Currently they are in their 8th day of self quarantine, mandated by the local government. Everyday, she posts of bike rides to the deserted park, pond fishing, and various other outside activities. I do understand being trapped inside for 8 days with a 15 yo ( already miserable about relocation) and and 11 yo, both boys, but really going out could be putting others at risk. Both have PHDs and are very active in world environmental causes. I just don't get it, folks are just not adhering to the self quarantine guidelines.

Maybe UK government thinks they are immune because they are not Italian?
Just kidding, obviously.

Quoting myself to add-

Honestly, at this point I would WELCOME mandatory confinement. It is very disturbing to be trying to live life here when the public health departments’ requests are being outright ignored.

A second case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in Minnesota. The state Health Department made the announcement Sunday evening, saying the case is a resident of Carver County in the 50's who was likely exposed to the virus while traveling in Europe in late February

There's a mixed message in the UK, people are dying and Price William called the virus "hype." People look at the stats from China, see the mortality rates and conclude that only sick old people have virus symptoms.

I keep hearing that we should avoid “large gatherings” but how many is “large”...a couple of hundred, 500, 1000...? Does it depend on how close people are to each other? I suppose “It depends” is the only possible answer. CDC doesn’t explain.

Stay 6 feet from everyone to be on the safe side. Don't touch anyone. Don't touch any surfaces.

Five people gathering together could be “large” if one of them has COVID-19.

Mortality rate is increased.

"World health officials said Tuesday the mortality rate for COVID-19 is 3.4% globally, higher than previous estimates of about 2%.

Health officials have said the respiratory disease is capable of spreading through human-to-human contact, droplets carried through sneezing and coughing and germs left on inanimate objects."

FRI, MAR 6
Coronavirus cases surpass 100,000 worldwide while US deaths top 14

What IS the real mortality rate ? Most of the countries are reporting confirmed cases, not counting those on a waiting list for testing. It's a numbers game, governments are afraid of business and economic impact.
