So the coronavirus.gov website is still redirecting to the cdc homepage.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

You would think the site would be up and running when the Vice President announced it yesterday.

sigh

That explains it! When Henry posted that, I was saying I've seen that page in the last two days. Makes sense now. I had seen as we are proactive and searching info, and I saw it being built 3 days ago. They just hadn't announced. They may, or may not move to redirect but at least I now know the Paul Harvey.

The NYC Mayor gave the latest update Tuesday morning:

"Giving New Yorkers a lot of guidance about how to be careful. Wash your hands more, use hand sanitizer, cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze. If you're older and have preexisting conditions don't visit folks who are sick. If you want to see your grandchildren and they have the sniffles that's not the time to do it. New Yorkers are pretty tough and they're listening and making adjustments," De Blasio said.

The mayor also warns that insufficient testing may be clouding the scope of the virus. He says that while the city's testing ability has improved he is still waiting for approval from the FDA to do automated tests.

"I mean - we are able to keep getting people tested - if we had the approval from the FDA for automated tests it would be thousands of tests we could do in a single day - with results the same day. And that would help us to get people. Look, people need to be isolated. It would allow us to make sure that happened as quickly as possible and that we could give people the whole truth about what's going on. It unfathomable after this long that these tests haven't been approved," De Blasio said.

Mayor: At Least 25 Cases of Coronavirus in NYC

Same thing our gov’ just said about the tests. Also a stern warning to not get tested unless you meet the criteria, a negative test at the wrong time proves nothing.
I think crap is getting ready to hit the fan based on his presser.

Part of the ripple effect....

"Travel restrictions, unexpected financial expenses, and a shifting global landscape has accompanied the spread of the COVID-19. In higher education, the enrollment of international students at universities like Columbia—which heavily depend on international student tuition as a main driver of revenue—may see significant declines in the near future."

Coronavirus threatens drop in international student enrollment for universities across nation

I'm curious if anyone here has a plan in case someone in their household becomes infected but told to stay home. My husband is afraid he could bring it home to me and wants to be isolated from me if he gets sick. I honestly don't think I could manage taking care of him without having some contact.
I was asking myself the same question..if I were to be sick or if DH became sick, do we stay home together? Do we stay in different parts of the house, away from each other? Neither of us would want to share it with the other.

A friend of ours called from GA last night. Conversation turned to the CV.

He said "Meh, it'll be gone when it gets warmer anyway".

My eyes rolled to the back of my head.

Then he said "Dunno why people are getting so worked up. It's just like getting a cold".

I could barely contain myself.

I tried my best to lay out the facts, but he wasn't having any of it.

Yes, even the stock exchange shut down a few days after Sandy. Oh, yes, the 9/11 shut down included the bridges and tunnels!! There is nothing we can't handle in New York!

It's the small businesses that can't afford to close down for a couple of weeks just to be cautious. Sure, maybe the NYSE shut down for a couple of days, but the small business I worked for in the Meadowlands was right back at work the day after the storm, assessing our (major) losses and getting back on our feet. We literally could not afford to just completely shut down for weeks or have people work remotely.

The small business I work for now can't just shut down for a couple of weeks out of precaution. We cannot do our work remotely, and my boss certainly won't pay us to sit at home.

Early on I read something that said to isolate the sick person in a room as much as possible and if you have two bathrooms, have them use one dedicated to only them.

Do they even have the numbers displayed? They apparently took down the number of tests and the results, for a time being at least. Why? CYA?

Thanks for this.

And good news is we already do use 2 separate bathrooms. I prefer it that way, let's just say.

it's the sign of the times. the same problems plagued the small business owners in China.

Better buckle up! Trump is putting together a package today for small business owners and hourly workers.

Geez, now I wished I had gotten ahold of a N95 mask. I bet they would work good in this situation.

Whole floor of RBC workers in Mississauga in self-quarantine after employee diagnosed with COVID-19
''Dozens of workers at Royal Bank of Canada’s Mississauga Meadowvale campus are now in self-isolation at home after an employee there tested positive for COVID-19.

RBC spokesperson Gillian McArdle told BNN Bloomberg that an employee at the Meadowvale complex at 6880 Financial Drive in Mississauga has been at home in self-isolation since late last week with a suspected case of the novel coronavirus.''
Staff and students at Rosedale-area elementary school may have been exposed to individual with COVID-19
''Staff and students at an elementary school in Rosedale are being warned that they may have been exposed to an individual that has since tested positive for COVID-19.

Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa sent a letter to members of the Whitney Junior Public School community over the weekend, informing them that an individual with a confirmed case of the virus visited the building on March 4.''

I heard much of the same over the weekend. Basketball is huge here, I’m the only person not planning to attend SEC.
Also, China’s cases started declining in late February, I think if we google it we will see around 2/26, so a lot of people in my area think CV19 is short lived. Our government seems to be gearing up for the long haul.
I go with the “this is a new strain & no one knows.....” theory.
