yes and I've been told this by oncology professionals - that the surgical masks are only effective for 20 minutes but in that 20 minutes of wearing one at the cancer centre, it kept me protected from one lady sitting across from me who was hacking and sneezing and coughing into a kleenex (with no mask on putting hundreds of cancer patients at risk!)
As a stage 3II, type 3 cancer survivor of 4 years, what do you want us to do when we have an appointment? You said she was coughing into a Kleenex? Please tell me what YOU want me to do when I next go into my appt. PS As a cancer survivor I have been through a lot, I just only wish for some compassion, not condemnation.

Australia - Free telehealth services and pop-up testing clinics will be set up as part of the federal government's $2.4 billion health response to the coronavirus outbreak.
The government released the details of its health package last night, and promised further measures are on the way.
From Friday, Australians will be able to bulk-bill phone hook-ups with GPs to diagnose coronavirus symptoms.
Pop-up clinics and free telehealth services as part of $2.4b coronavirus package

Thank you for the updates!

I just offered my son to cover all costs for direct flights if he wants to come home from Melbourne now, suggesting that he can resume his adventure when this blows over, but he's going to stay put.

I find this to be sooo frustrating that I am basically 'isolating' from some of my close relatives...can't handle talking to them, it just gets me too worked up.
You are not alone. I, and many others, are doing this too. It's OK. We need to self-care.

Went to my polling place here in Michigan. I was a school Gym. No precautions or hand sanitizer to be found. I carry my own. I know you asked about the other states, I am curious, too.

I too am from Michigan. My polling place was a fire station and they didn't have any either.

We have people tested in the state for the virus but they haven't stated any confirmed tests - just that the test results are pending.

Makes me wonder if this wasn't medical terrorism??

My employer is having anyone with computers at home, a few groups at a time, test the system in case we all have to work from home (some were given computers, I already have work computer at home). We also get daily updates on the virus status. We were also told that if we have medical reasons we could work from home now. I emailed our HR and they want a dr's note, I stated that I am not sick now (in the past 3 months have had impacted colon, pneumonia, asthma attack, history of multiple issues and have weak immune system) but have a weak immune system. Do they still need a dr note. They said they would get back to me.

Very scary thinking that this affects everyone globally. Has me wondering how long (with spring coming will the virus impact us), how long incubation, hoping for a vaccine.

Wishing everyone health and happiness. (body bump lol - don't need sanitizer for that)

China's Wuhan coronavirus survivors recount fear, uncertainty and lack of resources - ABC News

“But the psychological impact of surviving the virus that has claimed the lives of those around him is taking a greater toll than the physical effects of the illness itself.

Mr Li said the most frightening thing he witnessed was the death of a young family of four in the room just next door. The parents were in their 30s and the children aged three and four.

"I was terrified when I saw doctors running to perform CPR on them. I was very concerned my life would be ended like that," he said.”

[...]

“When he went to get tested, he saw four bodies in bags lying at the entrance of the hospital.

"The city government ordered to cremate the remains of any confirmed cases within three hours, but it was impossible," he said.”

Yes, I saw those recommendations and immediately thought “how’m I gunna?” There are just the two of us in our 70’s, with the usual aches and pains. Our apartment (a rental) has one bedroom, an office and two baths (one with stall shower, one with tub shower—no grab bars so we don’t use it). We don’t have a bed in the office and one of those fancy inflatable mattresses would be torture for whoever uses it. I have come to the conclusion that if one of us gets it the other one has already been exposed. But for a larger family in a larger house, I can see it working. I’m glad you’re prepared @Sundog.
I agree, @Lilibet I also figure that if one of us gets it the other will because it can be infectious prior to symptoms, plus we would care for one another. So I'm not really prepping in that regard.

My mom’s school is only “considering it”. Why not prevent the spread by not waiting and go online now?

https://dailytitan.com/2020/03/coronavirus-outbreak-prompts-csuf-prepare-online/

We need less reacting and more responding.

It's been happening behind the scenes for a few weeks.

One university told the team that is preparing documentation for "how to" teach online to cancel all meetings today and focus solely on updating the notes. The goal is to keep all information short, to the point, and to publish ASAP.

Only a handful of instructors have complete course content published through a Learning Management System (e.g.: D2L, Blackboard, Canvas). All of campus needs information on how to do it.

Grown children are a dilemma for sure. I want to wrap my arms around my 2 (and their spouses and kids) and say "Come home. Your rooms are still here for you. Plenty of room for you all." Instead I try my darndest to let them make their own adult decisions. It is hard!

Jeesh, they should have removed that patient to another room for quarantine to protect people. SMH!

“Private labs that began running coronavirus tests in New York City on Friday are reporting so many new cases that public officials are having trouble keeping up, Mayor Bill de Blasio told reporters Tuesday.

“As of 12 noon ... the number of confirmed cases in New York City is 36. That’s 16 new since yesterday and 11 new even since this morning at 7 a.m. when I last spoke about this,” de Blasio said.

Dr. Mitchell Katz, CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals, said local hospitals are bracing for an onslaught of COVID-19 cases.“

@zecats Thank you! It's always felt like such a safe place, but I don't feel so safe anymore. A new berth has just been built to accommodate 2 cruise ships at once, and 97 ships are expected to visit Charlottetown for the 2020 season. My family loves to watch the ships come in but we'll be staying safely at home this year!

@otto

Australia is actually pretty safe and Melbourne even more so it has the fewest cases out of the east coast, where i live in melbourne hasn't had a confirmed case at all

if he was in the states he'd have a worse chance to catch it as it has a higher population density than here and our government is acting very quickly right now

Not LadyL but I think her point was the hacky sneezy lady should have had a mask on. Even a simple cold can be deadly as you know. She put others at risk. Happy to hear you are doing well.

Oh my gosh, thank you Sanjay Gupta! He’s on CNN right now saying it doesn’t make sense to close all of these colleges with this disease. I don’t see it on the website right now but I’ll keep looking. These university closings are getting out of hand IMO.

He’s saying music festivals make sense, but closing universities is very disruptive and college kids are not largely affected by this. I think we’re going to have a whole generation of extremely resentful people if their whole lives, plans and goals are completely halted. This is what happens when we have no real leadership—a plan that makes SENSE for this particular virus. Schools, organizations, companies are just winging it and guessing on what to do. MOO

Well, Sanjay Gupta is wrong, in my opinion. Young people may not be largely affected by this, but the virus is very efficient, meaning that it spreads quickly, and the students would be carriers of the virus in their communities, to families and others. And a university is like a small town, we have faculty, staff, police, custodial, dining hall workers, residence hall staff, restaurants, a bank, and outside vendors, tons of them, and so they are also at risk. I understand your concerns about their education and career goals, but we are all in this together. MOO.

New York Gov. Cuomo deploys National Guard to New Rochelle, establishes containment center to stem coronavirus

“”This is unique in the United States of America, we haven’t seen this anywhere else. Think about it, New Rochelle has double the cases of New York City, it’s true, it’s a phenomenon,” Cuomo told reporters Tuesday in announcing the deployment. Westchester County, where New Rochelle is located, had 108 COVID-19 cases out of the 173 confirmed infections across the state, according to state health department data Tuesday.”

[...]

“We have moved from a containment strategy to more of a mitigation strategy,” NY state Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker said. “

Well prior to this when masks were available I think the point is people who are coughing or sneezing should wear masks in any health care center. Of course people have to blow their noses and kleenexes are appropriate but probably extra care needs to be taken in oncology centers, like blowing one’s nose in the bathroom and immediately, thoroughly washing one’s hands.

But I’m no expert.

They have toothbrushes for kids that play a tune and for adults that vibrate for the specific brushing time so a fun little bottle of soap should be easy!

Things I've noticed around my area … air filters are suddenly out of stock. I reckon folks are worried about the air quality getting pretty bad at some point.

You can't find a disposable glove at any of the major haunts around here, either, but Harbor Freight is a treasure trove for masks, gloves and other handy things. So think outside the box if your local places are out of everything.

My state officials are rather pathetic in their handling. There was a presser yesterday and the three that spoke, all had different things to say. Granted, we don't have any confirmed cases and only a small handful "being watched" but I'm positive it's only a matter of time.

A group of my neighbors (read that as folks in my community, because I'm rural and our neighbors are almost all at least a quarter mile away) booked a cruise last year that departs in a few weeks and they're still going. I think that's nuts, but that's just me.

And finally … we share 11 acres with my parents so I feel like we're safer. That may just be wishful thinking, but I'd rather be wishful, you know? It's almost planting time for our garden and I think I'm going to plant a little extra, just in case.

And one PS … we live in a 987 square foot house … with one bathroom. If one of us gets it, the other is doomed! :p But at least we're massive germaphobes and keep things clean and neither of us licks doorknobs or sprays fluids when we sneeze or cough.
Loved your post.! Made me smile, big time. At this point, do we really care about other folks' mannies and peddies and hair stylist appointments? Most of us are down to the survivalist stage. This is our new reality.

ummm I wanted her to wear a mask and so did the people working there (like I did, even though I'm not sick)
masks are freely available there
as a stage 3 cancer survivor of a few months, I have lots of compassion
I'm not sure what you're offended about
