Three new cases of coronavirus have been diagnosed in Victoria, taking the number of cases for the state to 21.

The 19th case is a man in his 50s who returned to Melbourne from Seattle on March 7 at 7am on Virgin Australia flight VA24.

The flight manifest of VA24 is being obtained to start contact tracing passengers in the same and adjacent rows.

The man became unwell after he arrived home, with lethargy and a dry cough, developing flu-like symptoms a few days later.

He is now recovering in home isolation.

Oh my gosh, thank you Sanjay Gupta! He’s on CNN right now saying it doesn’t make sense to close all of these colleges with this disease. I don’t see it on the website right now but I’ll keep looking. These university closings are getting out of hand IMO.

He’s saying music festivals make sense, but closing universities is very disruptive and college kids are not largely affected by this. I think we’re going to have a whole generation of extremely resentful people if their whole lives, plans and goals are completely halted. This is what happens when we have no real leadership—a plan that makes SENSE for this particular virus. Schools, organizations, companies are just winging it and guessing on what to do. MOO

If Wuhan and Italy don’t convince people of the need to impose strict limits on congregating I don’t know what can.

26% of people who are symptomatic need intensive care. We’ve read numerous articles quoting people in their 20’s needing hospitalization. The impact of the spread of this on our health care system will be more than it can bear leaving people to be left to die for want of respirators, etc.

Sanjay Gupta is ill-informed.

Young people aren’t the only ones who are on college campuses. How old do you think the professors are? The staff? Gardners? Coaches? Admins? Etc.?

And young people can easily spread this highly contagious disease to the community. Then we look like Lombardy. Is that okay with Gupta?

This is interesting. I thought that the virus didn't affect children or kill them. All of the statistics we have seen have stated that the percentage of children under age 9 for morbidity is 0%.

The statistics that we are getting about this virus are absolutely flawed.

If the people working there wanted her to wear a mask, they would have asked her to. I've been in my doctors office many times, and they will immediately assess your health status if you are coughing sneezing etc. They will and have in other cases, called the person ahead of others to remove them from the waiting room. My doctors are not dummies, and I'm not either, so if I felt uncomfortable, I would simply wait outside the door. SMH

A top Chinese doctor who has been treating seriously ill coronavirus patients in Wuhan believes hypertension may increase your changes of dying from the virus.

Du Bin is the director of Peking Union Medical College Hospital’s intensive care unit and was among a group of Chinese physicians sent to the virus epicentre to treat coronavirus cases two months ago.

In a group of 170 patients which died from COVID-19 in January nearly half had hypertension — a “very high ratio”, Dr Bin told Bloomberg.

“From what I was told by other doctors and the data I can see myself, among all the underlying diseases, hypertension is a key dangerous factor,” Dr Bin said.

I’ve had a dry cough for days now. Very worried. I think it’s just allergies but this thing has me paranoid, admittedly, about my health.

Allergy season is really bad here on the East Coast and I have had a lot of symptoms too. And it is perfectly understandable if you are feeling a bit paranoid these days. I certainly am and then I am also having feelings like this is surreal. We are watching a train wreck in slow motion and without containment it will certainly spread. Look at the large swatches of China that did not get the spread of virus. That is because they kept it contained, but here life must go on at all costs and we will just pick up the pieces later.

Anytime I go to my Docs office there is a sign to put on a mask for any/all respiratory symptoms. I have noticed if folks do not adhere then the Nurse brings them one to put on. This is their policy and always has been. I like it!

Grown children are a dilemma for sure. I want to wrap my arms around my 2 (and their spouses and kids) and say "Come home. Your rooms are still here for you. Plenty of room for you all." Instead I try my darndest to let them make their own adult decisions. It is hard!

I have one that lives with me and I need the money he helps pay the rent with. But he rides the bus every day to work and I worry like hell bout that...also rides uber (long story, he is a crappy driver) to a fencing clubs he loves to participate in. I have to work with a tax accountant, I need the money and at the moment he is all in on the rest of the season. I love my son, I need the job but I'd really rather just stay home for the duration and only go out at odd times to replenish my supplies. Can't be done. Don't know if I fear my son catching it or me catching it...I am decidedly more at risk but I am not reassured about younger people at all...we won't go into the son in Socal...just frightened as hell. I don't mind being dead but I would like to not suffer horribly on the way there...or worse, watch my son,or only hear of my other son...so ANGRY at my govt at all levels...

Australia is actually pretty safe and Melbourne even more so it has the fewest cases out of the east coast, where i live in melbourne hasn't had a confirmed case at all

if he was in the states he'd have a worse chance to catch it as it has a higher population density than here and our government is acting very quickly right now

Thanks! Earlier we discussed that Australia is probably one of the safest places to be during this outbreak. I wanted to be sure that all options were available and that the cost of flights was not a barrier in decision making. He's confident that everything will be well.

We're supposed to have 2 cruise ships visit Charlottetown on April 29th...PEI is such a tourist destination. Tourism is such a huge part of our economy, but I can't help but hope that the cruises stop for now.

They've sent notice to parents today that international school trips on March Break (coming next week here) will be cancelled and it's up to parents to decide if we want to travel for March Break. I have no plans on going anywhere. We've been told that if after March Break travel you feel fine, it's okay to return to school. Those who don't feel well are asked to stay home. But what if someone has COVID-19 without showing symptoms? I can't wait until summer break so I can have my little one home safe with me!

I have lots of relatives in PEI. My father was born there, and growing up we visited every summer. My mother was from Nova Scotia, so we would stop there first and then take the ferry over to PEI. My uncle Watson worked on the ferry his whole life. Very fond memories for me. We used to say "spud islanders" because of the potatoes grown there. My husband and I planned to go this summer to visit cousins, following another "cousins" reunion in Nova Scotia. Not sure now with the coronavirus situation. Who knows what the impact will be, at many levels, including finances.

So much pain and suffering. I can't imagine what it is like for the city of Wuhan. Prayers for Wuhan and all victims of coronavirus throughout the world.

Small world! Hopefully this mess will be all over by then and you'll get to enjoy your reunions! We were planning a trip to Newfoundland this summer to visit relatives, but we're so torn at the moment. It's so hard to know what to do!
