China's Wuhan coronavirus survivors recount fear, uncertainty and lack of resources - ABC News

“But the psychological impact of surviving the virus that has claimed the lives of those around him is taking a greater toll than the physical effects of the illness itself.

Mr Li said the most frightening thing he witnessed was the death of a young family of four in the room just next door. The parents were in their 30s and the children aged three and four.

"I was terrified when I saw doctors running to perform CPR on them. I was very concerned my life would be ended like that," he said.”

[...]

“When he went to get tested, he saw four bodies in bags lying at the entrance of the hospital.

"The city government ordered to cremate the remains of any confirmed cases within three hours, but it was impossible," he said.”

3 and 4 and they all died around the same time as their parents? I thought no children below 10 had died?

Anytime I go to my Docs office there is a sign to put on a mask for any/all respiratory symptoms. I have noticed if folks do not adhere then the Nurse brings them one to put on. This is their policy and always has been. I like it!

this cancer centre has those signs too but people don't always care enough about others to bother
when I got in the room I told my nurse so she may have taken care of the issue when she left my room idk I didn't follow up

Of all places it should be strictly adhered to. Good on you for letting the Nurse know. Waiting room at my Docs isn't very big so easy for Nurses to spot somebody.

I’ve had a dry cough for days now. Very worried. I think it’s just allergies but this thing has me paranoid, admittedly, about my health.
I’ve been unwell for 3 days now and the doctor won’t backdate a medical certificate so I have to go down and see him :(

I think most of us can agree that anyone coughing in an oncology waiting room should put on a mask, rather than having everyone else step outside. The staff is very busy, sometimes short-handed, and they likely do not have time to monitor every single person in the waiting room. People need to use common sense.

Really love the idea of pop up test facilities. The US should follow their lead on this.

Australia - Free telehealth services and pop-up testing clinics will be set up as part of the federal government's $2.4 billion health response to the coronavirus outbreak.
The government released the details of its health package last night, and promised further measures are on the way.
From Friday, Australians will be able to bulk-bill phone hook-ups with GPs to diagnose coronavirus symptoms.

I feel like even though we are getting a lot of news, there’s a lot more we are not getting. Maybe news we should be getting?
I’m sure a lot of you hear “rumors” in your community, or know someone in isolation or hospitalized.
Our governor does two PC daily, but really seems to withhold info, imo. It’s MOO we have many in isolation with home health visiting/monitoring vitals, perhaps they should be tested but the test isn’t readily available.

House Dems discuss possibility of 10,000 congressional staffers working from home

“There was a lengthy discussion about teleworking, they said that we have the capacity for 10,000 staff to work from home, and we're making arrangements that all staff have access to the equipment that they would need and that that equipment is up to date so they could be teleworking," said Rep. Annie Kuster, D-N.H.

Kuster said that some of her staff are already staying at home.

Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore., on the other hand, said that Congress shouldn't shut down because it sends the wrong message.

And Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., made it clear that he is in favor of closing the Capitol to visitors.

Why does Congress need 10,000 congressional staffers? Sounds like 9000 too many to me. :)

Oh my gosh, thank you Sanjay Gupta! He’s on CNN right now saying it doesn’t make sense to close all of these colleges with this disease. I don’t see it on the website right now but I’ll keep looking. These university closings are getting out of hand IMO.

He’s saying music festivals make sense, but closing universities is very disruptive and college kids are not largely affected by this. I think we’re going to have a whole generation of extremely resentful people if their whole lives, plans and goals are completely halted. This is what happens when we have no real leadership—a plan that makes SENSE for this particular virus. Schools, organizations, companies are just winging it and guessing on what to do. MOO
Dr. Campbell will not be pleased with Mr. Gupta. He will shake his head and do that exasperated sigh.

Walmart, McDonald's, Instacart add COVID-19 paid sick leave policies

This is so great. Finally, workers are being recognized that if anyone goes to work sick, we all suffer.

I have had jobs, that I had to get to work, meetings, travel, getting sick was not an option. Sure, I had "sick leave", but there was a subtle competition that NO ONE ever called in sick, like wolves, the weakest one would be culled.

The work environment is just so cozy and friendly.

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - There are no coronavirus patients currently at Lexington Medical Center, but the hospital has a new feature to help handle any future cases.

After the first two cases of coronavirus in South Carolina were announced Friday, the hospital set up a tent outside its ER as a type of triage center.

Small world! Hopefully this mess will be all over by then and you'll get to enjoy your reunions! We were planning a trip to Newfoundland this summer to visit relatives, but we're so torn at the moment. It's so hard to know what to do!

Hope you are able to take the trip!

Loved your post.! Made me smile, big time. At this point, do we really care about other folks' mannies and peddies and hair stylist appointments? Most of us are down to the survivalist stage. This is our new reality.

Wow! Sorry to bore you @Chelly. Deciding which appointments to skip and which not to skip is part of the reasonable decision-making some of us are trying to do. FWIW I “survived” my haircut and pedi. Not that you’re interested, but some might be.

I realize this is extremely stressful, but I don’t think we need to minimize what others are doing. We’re all in this together.

this is a cancer centre with hundreds of people in the waiting areas
waiting 'outside the door' is not possible
I'm very sorry that you have such a large amount of patients in your cancer center. We in Nebraska have smaller offices, although we don't have more than one or two in each major city. May I ask where your cancer center is located and low large of an area does it serve?
