i think a colleague is on one of those planes. he's due in work on monday....what should i do? ask him to stay home?

The tests on the symptomatic passengers should be back by Sunday. The advice for other passengers on those planes depends on the results of those tests.

What was said in the article that the other passengers on a plane where a symptomatic passenger does test positive is that they will hear back (from PHE?) to inform them of the positive test. They can then get advice on what their risks might be and what future action they should take.

i haven't finished reading this, but it's a nice article with advice and suggestions for people who have to self-isolate at home, for instance if they're one of the close contacts of a person who is confirmed to have Covid-19.

How do you self-isolate due to coronavirus?

I personally would not. I would, if you are concerned, talk to HR about your concerns. And then do what my neighbors had from their co-workers perhaps that were under quarantine. They sent him computer, daily goodies and folks from the hood dropped off stuff that was home made meals.

I am so not going to do ANY traveling until they get a handle on this. Bus, train, cruise boats, airplanes, you name it.
I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one thinking this way either!

You are not. I posted earlier about a cruise DH and I have booked for this May. I did end up cancelling it. We needed to decide before this Tuesday in order to get a full refund, and it was tricky deciding 3 months ahead of time. But we erred on the side of caution in this situation.

Got a full refund on cruise, excursions and airfare. That's a positive.

Dr. we have been following -today's update. Info I had not heard before also. Interesting in that a correction to the New England Journal of Medicine has been corrected. Even scientists move too fast to get the first out as to info? Not new to this thread as we discussed this very case / false info many days ago.. he's touching on now to educate.

Excellent decision, imo.

Hopefully he is negative for the virus.

The World Health Organization has said there is no evidence to indicate that the virus – which has killed more than 1,300 people and infected well over 50,000 – can affect pets, the UK’s Sun reported.

But China’s National Health Commission disagrees.

“If pets go out and have contact with an infected person, they have the chance to get infected,”
said spokesman and epidemiologist Li Lanjuan.

“By then, pets need to be isolated. In addition to people, we should be careful with other mammals especially pets,” he added.

The conflicting information won’t be helping the situation for pets in China.

Let’s pull together more source reference on this so maybe we can help educate. If we can get some good reference material then perhaps we can work on distributing that information.

I feel the same way I can’t take any chances with my immune system being suppressed from having Crohn’s.

You made the right decision. I’m glad you got a full refund. I hope you get to go on a lovely holiday when this tragic situation has improved significantly.

What? Holy Cow. 7 other planes with suspected virus passengers.

I need to try to find an update on this.

And yes, I wish I didn’t have to travel! Getting on a plane this weekend

Thank you for you message. I was looking forward to it immensely - Ireland to Iceland and back. Luckily we've been to Ireland (England, Scotland, Wales too) on a British Island cruise already, but wanted to see more. And also visit Iceland. We will try again. Hopefully this nightmare for everyone will be short lived.

I know what you mean. I'll be flying to see family over the Easter weekend. It seems I always catch some bug when I fly. :(

Oh zecats! That sounds like an absolutely wonderful cruise! I think you did the right thing. And you absolutely should try again!

Interoperability Planning for 2019 novel Coronavirus Surveillance - HDD Access
...
name: 2019 novel Coronavirus. The World Health Organization updated the name 2/11/2020 to COVID-19. In addition to ICD-10-CM codes for diagnosis recording, two other international terminologies have added codes to enable clinical systems to track occurrence through embedded observations and testing: Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes (LOINC) for the assay identification and Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine Clinical Terms (SNOMED CT) for the microorganism entities. These two standards development organizations release international versions twice a year (typically January and June), but also have processes in place for non-scheduled events such as disease outbreaks and other issues that impact global health.

The following actions have been taken in the last two weeks internationally for public health surveillance through computer systems. SNOMED CT’s international release was announced January 31st, and even with the typical content life cycle taking months to curate, the dedicated staff provided terms in the organism, substance, event, disorder, procedure and situation domains: ...
2019 novel coronavirus - 3M Inside Angle

Please note that 2019-nCoV is a different coronavirus than those associated with MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) and SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome). If there is evidence that a patient has SARS-associated coronavirus and the documentation is unclear, vague, or conflicting, then a query is appropriate to make certain the virus is classified appropriately. Codes identifying SARS-associated coronavirus include:

  • Pneumonia due to SARS-associated coronavirus: J12.81 (Pneumonia due to SARS-associated coronavirus)
  • Sepsis due to SARS-associated coronavirus: A41.89 and B97.21 (SARS-associated coronavirus as the cause of diseases classified elsewhere)
I will be monitoring the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and/or the American Hospital Association (AHA)/Coding Clinic for any official coding advice relative to this coronavirus that may be issued and will post updates accordingly.
There is also the U07.1 in the ICD10, a code that is to be applied (at least here in Sweden) which WHO and the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare have decided to use. Coronavirus från Wuhan (2019-nCoV, COVID-19)
U07.0 is already in use for Vaping related disorder Diagnoskoder (ICD-10)
