British scientist leading coronavirus fight says forecasts for 400,000 UK deaths are 'not absurd' amid rising panic

British scientist leading coronavirus fight says forecasts for 400,000 UK deaths | Daily Mail Online

I personally don’t think headlines like this are helpful at all and they are part of the reason for the panic. I can’t see the number of fatalities being this high at least I very much hope not.
I'm with you Greg. I'm all for transparency in reporting, but I think it's irresponsible of media to put out these sensationalized headlines. How about they provide solid information to a nervous public?

"Jingmen, a city of 3 million people, in Hubei provence has been put on lockdown due to coronavirus, officials say "

Jingmen announcement:
- People told to stay inside; 1 person per family can leave once every 2 days to buy basic needs
- Vehicles are banned from the urban area
- All non-essential stores are closed
- Non-residents are not allowed to enter the city

The screenshot is why they are on lockdown.....wow.

CDC now operating on the premise that #COVID19 may have been in the US for a while & may be occurring alongside the flu. Altho data confirm flu B is driving a hi volume of illnesses, some tests are neither flu A nor B, yet percent of flu-like illness is up https://cdc.gov/flu/weekly/index.htm…

TY. I had been wondering about that,
heard an individual claim that he had already had it,
pnemonia caused by coronavirus, but that was on a
popular American online conspiracy show.

Messonnier also noted that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has launched a new strategy aimed at stemming any potential spread of coronavirus within the United States.

The "CDC has begun working with five public health labs across the U.S. to tap into their ability to conduct community-based influenza surveillance, so we can begin testing people with flu-like symptoms for novel coronavirus," she said.

"This is an extra layer of our response that will help us detect if and when this virus is spreading in the community," she said, explaining that samples of flu-like illness that test negative for influenza will then be tested for coronavirus.

People in the US experiencing flu-like symptoms will be screened for the latest coronavirus that originated from China, officials with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced during a briefing on Friday, adding that it will roll out 5 labs, in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Seattle, to screen patients through the ominously sounding “national flu surveillance program”; if that wasn’t bad enough, they also said the program is likely to expand as more confirmed cases are expected in the coming days and weeks.

Justifying the move, CDC officials said that there could be undetected cases of the mysterious illness in communities across the US, as the country experiences a dramatic spike in flu as the season approaches its halfway point.

The agency plans to expand to more cities until it has achieved “national surveillance”.

I cannot find such statement. Can you give a screen shot of such as the page you put up doesn't mention it. Thanks.

ETA: I see Henry's post above mine now.

Thanks, I didn't realize that you could "drill down" like that to get the view you did on that site.
