That's just goofing around, no reason to punish those students. They should be going after the ones engaging in fraternity hazing, etc.

When I was in college, this time of year there were groups taking road trips to Mardis Gras.

sorry this is slightly off topic ( hugely ! ) but many thanks for the Cam link - great memories

Spread of coronavirus in Iran worries Middle East

Reports in Iran appear to point to a growing crisis. While only 4 or 5 deaths have been confirmed, the 18 cases detected are thought to be just a few of many that are undetected in many cities. A seminary in the city has already closed due to the outbreak. A female pilgrim returning to Lebanon was confirmed as Lebanon’s first case.

A case in Canada is also linked to Iran.

Southern Iraq is now on edge because so many pilgrims from the Shi’ite community travel to Iran. One province was putting border controls in place. Iraq also put controls on travel to Iran. Iranians may be prohibited from entering Iraq entirely, but the huge flow of goods and people between Iran and Iraq would be difficult.

The National in the UAE reported that Iranians were already being banned.

Kuwait is looking to prevent port traffic with Iran.

Bahrain and Oman are concerned the virus spread will harm their economy.

Turkey is also concerned about the Iranian cases and putting checks in place.

A conference in Jordan has been cancelled.

Egypt, which had one case of the virus, is wondering if worse is to come.

Yemen, Libya and Syria, in conflict areas the ability to detect the virus or even confront it is reduced.

and, in other news...

As of February 21 afternoon, 15 of the 16 patients with COVID-19 in Vietnam had been cured and discharged from hospital. The 15th case, a Vietnamese American, at HCM City’s Tropical Diseases Hospital repeatedly tested negative from February 12 – 17 and was discharged on February 21.

Coronavirus: Holland America MS Westerdam cruise passenger cleared

"in Cambodia on Feb 14, an 83-year-old American woman was said to have tested positive for coronavirus in Malaysia.

On friday though, less than a week later, officials said she was clear of coronavirus ... the woman had received tests for coronavirus repeatedly and the results came back negative."

Several other Americans who were on board the ship have been diagnosed and hospitalized in Japan, according to the CDC. As of Friday afternoon, there were no plans to evacuate those patients. The U.S. Department of State said it will not rescue other Americans who choose to go on cruises in Asia.

Such repatriation flights do not reflect our standard practice, and should not be relied upon as an option for U.S. citizens," Ian Brownlee, an executive within the Department of State, said during a media briefing Friday.

On its website, the department has warned Americans to reconsider any planned cruises to or within Asia, saying such trips "may be impacted by travel restrictions affecting their itineraries or ability to disembark, or may be subject to quarantine procedures implemented by the local authorities."

I feel the exact same way MJ. I also know that many are in prison because of their political views. The more I learn about China. The more appreciation I have for where I am fortunate enough to live.

Me too. Even prisoners dont deserve to catch this virus and the health care they will get will be minimal compared to regular folks on the outside. Its sad to think about and especially because there is nothing much anyone can do about it. I sure hope there are not prison riots over this due to the fears the prisoners will be having.

And yes about where each of us were born. I have thought a lot about that in the past. Of all the places in the world our soul would be born, I feel very fortunate to have been born in the US. I know we have many international WSers also and most places are nice to be born in, but the places under communist rule like China would not be one I would want to pick. I feel sorry for so many that end up in places where they dont have all the freedoms to enjoy life like some other places.

OK folks, need your help here for my mental health.

I just was transferring my notes from todays WHO presser which took much time, and I hit one wrong key and all went POOF! I did transcription in an app which doesn't autosave. DAMMIT.

Therefore, my request is help sleuthing. I know that there is a link somewhere for the transcripts of WHO pressers. I never found, and right now I'm too upset and over it to look. Can someone please find where the links are for transcripts for each daily WHO presser?

I'm gonna need to walk away from doing transcriptions daily I think.. and this would help greatly as I really want to read them even if a day or two later.

Can y'all help my mental health, and others to later read the transcripts. I'll be back after I virtually throw this computer against the wall for having it go POOF without recovery due to the app I was typing it in.

Awwww...thank for all your help and work, Dixiegirl1035. That is frustrating I know, as I’ve had it happen before. Now I’m constantly hitting “select all, copy” while composing posts, just in case.

Oh no, just seeing that the Abels have both contracted pneumonia per YT Vlog, streamed live two hours ago per their son. Sally has mild pneumonia and David has acute pneumonia. They’ve been moved to another hospital which is less than stellar, no shower, towels. They are asked to wash themselves with paper towels using the basin. David is saying he is very weak, and had to use a wheel chair for the transport. They can’t eat and haven’t eaten since they’ve moved to the new hospital. They are very distressed. David may or may not need a ventilator. Tomorrow a BBC crew will come to the Abel’s son’s house. Sorry if repost.

Flights in and out of China are down 80%.
at this point in time, I consider that a good thing.
I'd like to add that I am personally P.O.'d at China for allowing this to happen. They knew the dangers from these wet markets. They already had SARS. This was a damn ticking time bomb.
they can quell all their citizens and the internet, but they didn't bother to shut down their set markets. Shame on them.
Sorry if this has been discussed already, but it's worrisome that the virus is moving into the Mideast - so many of those countries don't have the capability to fight this kind of epidemic.

Coronavirus: window of containment 'narrowing' after Iran deaths, WHO warns

I also saw an earlier news story of the airline industry complaining of the negative impact of the virus on business. I really wish they would stop complaining about it. We need to do what's best for everyone to stop the spread of COVID 19

When Amonet started this thread, I didn’t think we’d ever end up at 50 pages. Now we’re at the end of thread 5. Let’s hope this thread doesn’t continue to be so relevant in the near future.

By the way, for Americans, Walgreens has buy one get half off the second on a lot of basic meds right now. If you’re stocking up on acetaminophen, ibuprofen and the like, now is the time.

This retired teacher from Ontario seems to be very well treated in Japan..
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/coronavirus-covid19-quarantine-hospital-1.5469521
''Craig Lee was travelling on the Diamond Princess when the ship was quarantined in Yokohama, south of Tokyo, in early February after a former passenger was diagnosed with the virus in Hong Kong.
Lee, a 72-year-old retired teacher from Richmond Hill, Ont., shared his story with CBC News, along with photos of his experiences aboard the cruise ship and in hospital.
He said he was tested by doctors on Saturday, and informed two days later that he had tested positive.''

Lee received a care package from Care Team Japan, which was set up by the Canadian Embassy, upon arriving at the hospital. It included toiletries, a coffee mug, a T-shirt, some shortbread cookies, a Kit-Kat bar, earbuds and more.

Lee told CBC News Network's John Northcott that it was "like having Christmas all over again."

Lee also sent along a photo of his dinner from Thursday night — a far cry from what many Canadians would think of when they imagine hospital food.

Well, there are really all sorts of “cruise ships” we live in:

1. Large multi-unit apartment building

2. Hotels, motels, condos

3. Airplanes, train, subways, buses, any shared transit

4. Public arenas, theaters, coliseums, nightclubs, restaurants, bars

5. Amusement parks ( I’ll betcha Disney has a plan!) , attractions, entertainment venues

6. Schools and universities, dorms

7. Shops,

It goes on and on. We aren’t self-reliant isolated farmers and small communities

I did a conscious test the other day to see if it’s possible to touch something that hasn’t already been touched, etc. In other words, for example, even when you go to the store and pick something off the shelf, someone, if not more than one, people have already touched it. Yes we are not clear yet on surface transmission but just sayin. (A lot of “just sayin” in here lol)

I was hanging upside down in a packed yoga class the other day when the lady next to me started coughing. If I jerked the wrong way in that position I could’ve hurt myself so I was forced to hold my breath (like that’s going to help).

My point is we can most certainly do things to protect ourselves, but there are also things that are out of our control sometimes.

And in the future I'll save the antipyretics for.. others, and just use for headaches and pains and not infections. I never thought that fevers actually were needed to fight infections and you should let the fever break naturally as high temps actually help the fight in your body and create conditions that many bacteria and viruses don't like (both the docs we post youtubes on the thread have mentioned this)

Lol, I too was in a yoga class just the other day and was trying desperately to avoid the person next to me who was breathing on me :D

I decided to believe that if they were taking yoga then they would be in tune to their body and thus would have stayed home if they thought they’d been exposed to CV... ha!! Utterly illogical but made me feel better
