Drastic measures in the Middle East
Saudi Arabia banned foreigners from reaching the holy city of Mecca and the Kaaba, the cube-shaped structure the world's 1.8 billion Muslims pray toward five times a day. It also said travel was suspended to Prophet Muhammad's mosque in Medina.

Disease outbreaks have always been a concern on the hajj pilgrimage, with peopl travelling from all over the world to complete the walk which is compulsory for able-bodied Muslims.

Saudi Arabia has taken the measure as its neighbours deal with their own cases of coronavirus. Bahrain confirmed 33 cases as of Thursday morning, while Iran’s president insisted there were no immediate plans to quarantine cities as authorities try to get a handle on the spread of the virus in a country which has so far seen 19 deaths. There are also confirmed cases in neighbouring Oman, Iraq, Kuwait and the UAE.

@Simply Southern Wanted to be sure you saw this regarding Disney since your granddaughter will be going in a few weeks. Apparently the Epcot workers were isolated due to a recent trip to Italy but they have not shown any symptoms. I'll try to remember to tag you in any Disney specific information since I can imagine how concerned you might be about your granddaughter's trip.

Charleston, S.C. – WCBD – Officials warn Charleston to prep for Coronavirus due to the close relationship of the Charleston Port receiving 210,000 containers from China weekly.

A container from China takes approximately one month to arrive to the Charleston Coast.

Chief Medical Officer at Trident Medical Center, Lee Biggs says Charleston is safe considering the Coronavirus is spread from person to person, not from consumer goods.

“Everyone is always on the lookout through different routes of transmission, how is it getting from person to person, how many different touchpoints have occurred before it might manifest, but none of it has been shown through consumer goods or goods shipped through normal transit,” said Biggs.

South Carolina Ports Authority said:

“We have not seen a slowdown and we had strong volumes in January. The major impact on China trade is dependent on when workers can return to the factories after precautionary steps were taken to quarantine those returning from Chinese new Year.” – President and CEO Jim Newson

I would love to know more! Any idea what they are experiencing first hand? What is driving their consideration to “flee”? Is it just the fear of the virus, or???

The individuals that are experiencing this first hand and live where they can be vocal about their first hand knowledge without facing punishment or suppression are the ones we should be paying attention to the most right now. MOO

I just know that the bil works in a hospital system with confirmed patients with COVID-19 and in a town with confirmed cases and more being confirmed. But the town is not yet quarantined. The hospitals and schools are closed. It sounds like they are panicked enough that they are planning to flee via car before the town is quarantined. I've not heard any update. They don't trust Italy to contain it but trust Switzerland.

London firms send staff home amid coronavirus fear

"Three firms in London have now asked staff to work from home as a precaution against coronavirus.

Oil giant Chevron has asked 300 staff not to come into its office in Canary Wharf "for the time being".

Crossrail, which shares the same building as Chevron, and media firm OMD, based in central London, have also asked staff to stay away.

The real estate company that manages Canary Wharf suggested the firms had reacted with "an abundance of caution".

It "strongly encouraged" its tenants to adhere to advice from Public Health England, which says there is no need to send staff home, as most possible cases turn out to be negative.

PHE says even if there is a confirmed case of coronavirus they do not recommend closing the workplace."

Hong Kong (CNN Business)Some US companies are bracing for the revenue they make in China to be cut in half if the novel coronavirus outbreak extends into the summer.

Nearly half of US companies in China expect revenue from the country to fall this year if businesses can't return to normal before the end of April, according to a survey by the American Chamber of Commerce in China conducted earlier this month. And about a fifth of US companies said 2020 revenue from China will plummet by more than 50% if the epidemic extends through the end of August.

“Asymptomatic transmission could happen, but the vast majority of transmission in this epidemic is occurring from symptomatic individuals to other individual, it’s important to get that, and none of the data from the extensive studies in China have shown that asymptomatic individuals have been driving this epidemic. So that’s important to reassure people - not saying it can’t happen, but it’s not the major factor in this epidemic.”

Robert Reich (former Labor Secy) on CNN reminding us that the US Stock Market is not the economy, its one indicator. Just because the market is correcting doesn't mean we're in a recession. That said, if it gets worse, it could be a threat to the global economy. Consumer spending in the US is about 70% of the US economy, so if consumers stop spending, things will slow down. Conversely, when people start buying again, it improves.
