The female patient was treated at Verdun Hospital after exhibiting mild symptoms and was later discharged, Health Minister Danielle McCann said.

FRÉDÉRIC TOMESCO
Updated: February 27, 2020

The female patient was treated at Verdun Hospital after exhibiting mild symptoms and was later discharged, Health Minister Danielle McCann said during a news conference Thursday night.

The woman had recently returned from a trip to Iran.

The rapidity in which the case was handled shows that the safety measures Quebec has put in place to combat COVID-19 are efficient and working properly and that there’s no reason to panic, McCann said.

She reiterated that four Quebec hospitals will be used to treat infected patients who need to be admitted. They are the Jewish General and Ste-Justine’s in Montreal, and the Centre hospitalier de l’Université Laval and the Quebec Heart and Lung Institute in Quebec City.

While there is much we are learning about COVID-19, one thing we do know is that it has a high recovery rate.
Message to Campus Community on COVID-19

Ummmm, this is one of those things that I read in media that appears to being so dismissive of the disease, affects to family, and hospitalization and deaths etc.

Updated 3 p.m. Feb. 27: Chancellor Gary S. May and UC Davis Health Vice Chancellor and CEO David Lubarsky issued a statement to the Davis and Sacramento campuses, advising of three people from the Davis campus who are currently in isolation: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is testing one for COVID-19, while the two others are asymptomatic and, following CDC guidance, have not been tested.

Read the statement in its entirety.

Updated 7:50 a.m. Feb. 27: UC Davis Health officials send a letter to employees, advising a patient is being treated at the medical center for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). “Since the patient arrived with a suspected viral infection, our care teams have been taking the proper infection prevention (contact droplet) precautions during the patient’s stay,” the letter states. “This is not the first COVID-19 patient we have treated, and because of the precautions we have had in place since this patient’s arrival, we believe there has been minimal potential for exposure here at UC Davis Medical Center.”

Read the letter in its entirety.

Coronavirus: CDC Testing One From Davis Campus

Umm, is this the same person as above talking. If so sir, as of NOW, it should be airborne precautions I thought? Is that correct as that is something we have been discussing on the threads which either hasn't made it through filtering at CDC to media(due to we don't have many in US, so they don't wanna say such)...or am I wrong and it still hasn't been deemed airborne precautions are needed? I can't recall if WHO has touched on this yet with a media quiestion I could check.

I can’t say what the correct choice is for everyone, but I can tell you how I’m approaching it.

First off, it’s important to realize that there are no guarantees!
Just like driving (or riding) in a car. You can be the safest driver that’s ever lived, and still end up in a fatal accident - it happens! But most of us don’t live in fear of driving somewhere.
I’ll start to lay low when the first case of community spread is identified in my general area. Until then, I’ll use some of the safety measures discussed on this thread, but will otherwise proceed as normal and just hope I’m not the first case! lol

The first step is being prepared to hunker down as the initial wave passes over - that’s when panic will set in, people will rush out to the stores to stock up, the hospitals will be overwhelmed, etc
That panicked reaction is going to throw people into settings that are crowded - exactly what we shouldn’t do, and exactly what’s going to allow the virus to spread like wild fire!

The truth of the matter is that we all may not be able to avoid this thing altogether. No more so than we can avoid catching the flu. But if I’m going to catch it, I’m really hoping I can postpone it until after the dust settles. If I’m going to catch it, I prefer it to happen when hospital beds and medical staff are readily available to provide treatment. There hasn’t been a death in the US thus far, but that will change if an outbreak outpaces the availability of treatment.
My one request of my fellow WSers is that you please don’t panic. Prepare!, but don’t panic.
Most of the fear that is being felt is the fear of the unknown.
So if you do start to panic, think about driving that car, or any number of the other things we do in our daily lives that could end badly.

Take a deep breath and realize that this too shall pass! Even if the virus is here to stay, we’ll learn to deal with it and science will discover new ways to minimize the impact.

Either way, this is a transition stage.

I really hope this helps to ease the anxiety some are feeling. I think it’s really important to realize that fear can be just as bad as a viral epidemic - it may not actually kill you, but it can most definitely prevent you from living!!

Just some food for thought

Good post, and I'm with ya on the "second wave" preference.

Also, I've searched google scholar for article/publication on "dog" "Hong Kong" coronavirus etc... I'm coming up empty. I'm discounting such ATM, yet expect other media to pick up on it as they always do without going to a source. MOO

Coronavirus Update: NJ Gov. Phil Murphy Says State Is Being Proactive Amid Outbreak

Coronavirus Update: NJ Gov. Phil Murphy Says State Is Being Proactive Amid Outbreak
My home state. From your link:

“If you’re asymptomatic [while in the state of New Jersey], it depends on whether or not you’re from New Jersey, in which case you would probably self-quarantine. If you are not from New Jersey, we would, right now, the first port of call would be having folks go to the joint base, Fort Dix McGuire,” Murphy said.

People would be quarantined on the base until they are tested and cleared.

“I don’t have a problem with that, I really truly don’t. It’s just safe. Better safe than sorry. You can’t infect a lot of people. If you can control it that way then I say go for it,” said Evelyn Growney, of Rockaway, New Jersey.

The CDC has advised schools, hospitals and businesses to begin preparing now for the expectation that this could be bad. Some New Jersey schools have already been sending out reminders about basic prevention.

@Simply Southern Wanted to be sure you saw this regarding Disney since your granddaughter will be going in a few weeks. Apparently the Epcot workers were isolated due to a recent trip to Italy but they have not shown any symptoms. I'll try to remember to tag you in any Disney specific information since I can imagine how concerned you might be about your granddaughter's trip.

Cases in France double
France's health minister said there was a significant increase in cases of coronavirus, with the country confirming 38 cases on Thursday, more than double the number reported previously.

Twelve of the newly confirmed cases were linked to two people in the department of Oise, in northern France including one patient who died earlier this week of the virus.

In France, some cases were connected to people who had recently returned from Italy. Two others had recently come back from a trip to Egypt.

Another person is in intensive care in a hospital in Lyon.

Coronavirus 'does not respect borders'
The WHO said countries could curtail the impact of COVID-19 if they "move swiftly and contain it at the bud."

"We’re at a decisive point," Ghebreyesus said in Geneva, saying the virus was growing faster outside than inside China, where the outbreak began.

“Every country must be ready for its first case, its first cluster," he said. "This virus does not respect borders."

He added: "This virus is not influenza. With the right measures, it can be contained. This is not a time for fear, this is a time for taking action now to prevent infections and save lives. Fear and panic doesn’t help."
