I have a special request wrt the possible developments re: the dog and cat situation.

There’s a technique here that can be used hide potentially disturbing content, it’s the spoiler technique.

For example:

Warning graphic contact, click to display:
graphic content here

—-

It’s not that hard to do.

You just put the word “spoiler” (no quotes) within square brackets before your post. Then you type your content. Then add the word “spoiler” again at the end with a backslash before it, like this “/spoiler”, also encased in brackets. If that’s too much for some, please try to put WARNING GRAPHIC so some people can have a heads up and choose to scroll past the post if they wish. Tia.

I am starting to feel much better about this virus and the ability for it to be life changing.
Here's my reasonings.
As of 2017, China has a population of 1.386 billion people.
If 3,000.00 in our entire world have died, that's only 0.00216 of the world's population.
Please consider China's living situations and education.
In 2018 only 7.9 million Chinese completed education up to the 12th grade.
Most are not the cleanest, most sanitary people on our planet by a long shot.
They live and eat and believe completely differently from the West.
Which is probably why the most dangerous contagions come out of this region of our world. Repeatedly and historically.
Even so, their death and infection rate is very, very low for the amount of citizens who live there.
As this virus spreads across our planet, it will be the poorest, less educated and those that live in the densely populated areas that will suffer the most.
Certainly not fair. But a truth I believe.
Will there be deaths in the West? Yes.
Will they be horrific numbers? No. I do not think so.
If we pay attention, exercise caution, follow health professionals advice, I think we will all live through this.
Although, with lessons learned.
This is completely my opinion.
I look forward to your opinions.
Sincerely, Kali.

I saw a video about the town of Wuhan.

It is a huge major city, and a center for technology and higher education. It has a great many newer modern high-rise apartment buildings. In the video it looked much newer than Hong Kong, for example and did not seem to have the large number of really dreadful "coffin apartments" and slum buildings as HK did.

I think you have to be careful about old assumptions and outdated cultural impressions.

Sorry for being Chatty tonight. The person who supposedly got this virus in Northern California out of NOWHERE, is wrong.
It could be from a lyft driver, someone at a food stop, gas station.
Bottom line, this virus is not hanging out like a fog, over Northern California.
Somewhere, there was human exposure.
Whether this person remembers where or not.
Sheesh.

Sheesh.
When they say out of nowhere, what’s meant is no known connection to a place where the virus has been detected, like China or Italy for a start. No connection to anyone from there. It started in the home community.

No looming fog.

Sheesh.

No one is claiming there wasn’t a human source. It just hasn’t been tracked yet. That person was encountered somewhere, but it doesn’t appear to be connected to Travis AFB.

Seems city/state officials are meeting the problem head on, while I’m really not sure what the US Gov’t is doing. San Francisco... New Jersey...Minnesota...

And that's precisely what's scary KALI, isn't it?

That an encounter so casual or transitory that you can't even remember it puts you in a life-threatening situation with an almost untreatable disease in a hospital on a ventilator, and threatens all around you, too.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

Q: Should I be concerned about pets or other animals and COVID-19?

A: While this virus seems to have emerged from an animal source, it is now spreading from person-to-person in China. There is no reason to think that any animals including pets in the United States might be a source of infection with this new coronavirus. To date, CDC has not received any reports of pets or other animals becoming sick with COVID-19. At this time, there is no evidence that companion animals including pets can be infected with or spread COVID-19. However, since animals can spread other diseases to people, it’s always a good idea to wash your hands after being around animals. For more information on the many benefits of pet ownership, as well as staying safe and healthy around animals including pets, livestock, and wildlife, visit CDC’s Healthy Pets, Healthy People website.

Q: Should I avoid contact with pets or other animals if I am sick with COVID-19?

A: You should restrict contact with pets and other animals while you are sick with COVID-19, just like you would around other people. Although there have not been reports of pets or other animals becoming sick with COVID-19, it is still recommended that people sick with COVID-19 limit contact with animals until more information is known about the virus. When possible, have another member of your household care for your animals while you are sick. If you are sick with COVID-19, avoid contact with your pet, including petting, snuggling, being kissed or licked, and sharing food. If you must care for your pet or be around animals while you are sick, wash your hands before and after you interact with pets and wear a facemask.

Q: What precautions should be taken for animals that have recently been imported (for example, by shelters, rescue groups, or as personal pets) from China?

A: Animals imported from China will need to meet CDC and USDAexternal icon requirements for entering the United States. At this time, there is no evidence that companion animals including pets can be infected with or spread COVID-19. As with any animal introduced to a new environment, animals recently imported from China should be observed daily for signs of illness. If an animal becomes ill, the animal should be examined by a veterinarian. Call your local veterinary clinic before bringing the animal into the clinic and let them know that the animal was recently in China.

@margarita25 I totally understand how upsetting the coronavirus situation is and animals being killed. I’m sure we will all be in agreement that we will not post horrific content that will cause significant distress to us all which would not be allowed.

Thank you for your recommendations on how we can still post about this terrible but important issue but with caution. I am sure your suggestions can be implemented.

Thanks for posting this. I was about to go looking for it to add it to my post about who possibly came in contact with the Solano county woman. Quoting:

Staff members from the Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Children and Families were sent to Travis Air Force Base and March Air Reserve Base in late January and early February and were ordered to enter quarantined areas, including a hangar where coronavirus evacuees were being received, the complaint said. They were not provided safety-protocol training until five days into their assignment, said the whistle-blower, who is described as a senior leader at the health agency.

Without proper training or equipment, some of the exposed staff members moved freely around and off the bases, with at least one person staying in a nearby hotel and leaving California on a commercial flight. Many were unaware of the need to test their temperatures three times a day.

Oh, ok, where I live we can go 400 miles between state lines, so seems close to me, I traveled 150 miles/day minimum for a job I had for 13 years.
Uh. I don't consider India to be remotely close to the epicenter.

“DENVER (KDVR) -- Denver Health Medical Center said Thursday it is preparing for the possibility of the novel coronavirus making its way to Colorado. Currently, no confirmed cases have been reported in the state.”

[...]

“"I’m not sure if you can get novel coronavirus twice,” said Dr. Heather Young, DHMC's medical director of infection prevention. “Generally, people wouldn’t get the same virus twice because your body has built up immunity to it.””

[...]

DHMC says it has been ensuring there is enough protective equipment for medical staff. It is also working to identify patients who may have symptoms very early on. Finally, it is communicating internally and externally about best practices regarding the virus.

DHMC has the capability to quarantine people in 60-70 airborne isolation rooms.”

Coloradans should prepare for the coronavirus like they would a snowstorm, health officials say

““What do we do when a snowstorm is coming?” she asked. “Most people don’t panic. This is not a moment for you to start worrying and having anxiety. It’s a moment to think, ‘OK, if schools are canceled, what am I going to do with my kids? If I have a sick relative and I can’t get to her, who is going to watch my mom who I normally take care of?'””

[...]

“Ready for Ebola, SARS and more
Colorado has developed pandemic response plans in the last couple years in preparation for illnesses such as SARS, swine flu and Ebola in 2014, said Rachel Herlihy, state epidemiologist with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

“We’ve built tools and protocols to monitor travelers and developed disease investigation protocols,” Herlihy said. “Our pandemic response plans we’ve been working on definitely have social distancing and community mitigation measures that are accounted for in those plans, but it’s certainly important for businesses to prepare and understand there could be disruption if we were to see transmission in Colorado.””

[...]

“As for Denverites, Bob McDonald, executive director of Denver Department of Public Health and Environment, said the city always has had an emergency plan in place for infectious disease.

“We have quarantine isolation protocols in place, communications in place to reach out to jobs, schools to provide guidance should it enter into their facility,” McDonald said. “It’s important to keep things in perspective””

State health officials urge Coloradans to take coronavirus seriously as disease continues to spread

“"Just be smart about preparation. It doesn’t mean you have to hide in your basement and hope everything goes away," said Barron. "Just be practical; what would you do if a snowstorm was coming? Think in that sort of same context."”

Scientist: Coronavirus ‘Not Airborne’ but ‘Extremely Contagious’

An Australian virologist who has isolated the coronavirus that causes the COVID-19 infection says the virus is “not airborne,” though it is “extremely contagious.”

I don’t understand! Science ain’t my strong suit.

I don’t understand either Gitana. Dr. Anderson seems to be contradicting Shanghai officials who said the virus transmission routes are airborne (aerosol) as well as direct and contact (see BBM parts in the following quote). If it’s not airborne, masks would not be necessary. Quoting:

The spread of this is, is really, really surprising,” said Dr. Danielle Anderson, who has isolated the coronavirus that causes the COVID-19 infection at her lab in Singapore.

“We’ve seen outbreaks in the past, and we think we know what we’re doing,” she said in an interview with NBC News. “And so, for me it’s a really, really big surprise, why it is spreading so quickly. So, it seems that it’s extremely contagious, and it’s not airborne, but it is contagious.

On February 8, China Daily reported a Shanghai official said the novel coronavirus’s “confirmed transmission routes” included “direct transmission, contact transmission and aerosol transmission.”

“Aerosol transmission refers to the mixing of the virus with droplets in the air to form aerosols, which causes infection after inhalation, according to medical experts,” said Zeng Qun, deputy head of the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau.

(I’m not even sure Brietbart, the source of the Dr. Anderson opinion is considered MSM anyway. I didn’t notice the source before posting.)

On a positive note, learning that they can now do a CT scan and find characteristics of Covid 19 makes me feel a little better.

Considering info that the U.S. is short on testing kits, this could diagnosis more cases, with greater accuracy and avoid false negatives and/or letting people who are false negative walk off to infect more people.

Yes. A LOT of money!
I'm not sure how to think about this.
In my opinion, quite a lot of money is based on a house of cards.
Also known as speculation and inflated books.
I do see a serious reckoning.
Perhaps even a financial bloodbath.
Which, in my opinion is a correction. Albeit a big correction.
Companies that do not supply REAL goods will be the first to fail.
Thank you Gitiana for being so astute.
This may well be the true story that makes our history.

Lots of money is going to be lost as a result of all of the cancelled plans.

Re: my above post re: Colorado, Not digging the “preparing for a snowstorm” analogy, just sayin moo. Frankly I find it irritating. Sure there are some things in common, but a snowstorm comes and goes. This is a totally different situation. I realize the point of the article is not to say they’re totally similar. But imo this is a a totally different ballgame and I’m not sure the analogy is appropriate imo. Some things, yes.

ETA: “like preparing for a snowstorm...”

Pfft!!

I know what you mean about a “correction.” But man I realize the effects are going to really impact a lot of people. Will we emerge better or worse?
