This reminds me. I wanted to make the recommendation/suggestion for members here to be plugged into what is your going on in your own state specifically. I’ve been doing this by googling “Covid Colorado” (and variations there of), “Coronavirus Colorado”, etc.

It brought me some satisfaction shall we say to know and see in writing what my State is doing and their level or preparedness.
Local news reporting the Philadelphia area hospitals and city hall officials have been prepping for 6 weeks on strategies for fighting, coping with CoVid19. Good to know. And yesterday I posted link for NJ Governor's response. No cases reported either in NJ or Philly as of 2-28-20.

Some of us are not able to go out shopping right away. I have to wait until I get paid and then I can stock up. I really wonder if there will anything useful left to buy. The last time that I bought dog food I found it for a great price and really stocked up. That's all that really matters to me anyway. I sure hope that these people who are buying in vast quantities will save something for the rest of us but the shelves are nearly bare.
I am not running to the store to stock up. I have a lot of good meat in freezer so we are good!

Shop Rite in my NJ town was far from stripped down this afternoon. Shelves were full as were those in Pet Value. Perhaps DM is exaggerating? Or focusing on specific areas?

(Rewinding / Making a note)

Aww, you must be talking about the WHO/China team report. Yes, it is out. Thanks for the heads up. Off to read!

As I said in an earlier post today, a little levity, even in the midst of a crisis, never hurt anyone. Thanks for this creative, humorous post :)

Something else to think about (also in the early news releases) is that fever is the natural way to fight the virus. Taking fever reducing medication makes us feel better, but might also give the virus an advantage.
As a mom I struggled with this when my kids were younger. Eventually I got to the point where unless they were miserable or couldn't sleep, I "let the fever do its job" and didn't give Tylenol or Motrin.
Also Lowes, they still had a few last night, my daughter grabbed hers and her families masks, also Sherwin Williams, (if you have one, or even know what that is) and Ace hardware....MOO
I have had ZERO luck with masks in my area (Orlando). Even my Sherwin-Williams, Ace Hardware, Home Depot, and Lowe's don't have them. The Sherwin-Williams guy practically laughed at me as he was telling me that they not only don't have any but they won't get getting any. :(

Whaaat??!

Um... aerosol plumes anyone? Taxicabs? The Diamond Princess?...

Another periodic reminder for me that not all doctors are created equal. Glad she’s only “interim”, but the time is now unfortunately.

“Officials are not too worried, for now, about casual contact, because federal officials think the coronavirus is spread only through “close contact, being within six feet of somebody for what they’re calling a prolonged period of time,” said Dr. James Watt, interim state epidemiologist at the California Department of Public Health.”

Someone upthread was asking about why the WHO doesn't say stop travel and yet says to isolate. I tried explaining, but here is their statement. I just cut/past a little of it here.

A Joint Statement on Tourism and COVID-19 - UNWTO and WHO Call for Responsibility and Coordination

International cooperation is vital for ensuring the sector can effectively contribute to the containment of COVID-19. UNWTO and WHO are working in close consultation and with other partners to assist States in ensuring that health measures be implemented in ways that minimize unnecessary interference with international traffic and trade.

Tourism’s response needs to be measured and consistent, proportionate to the public health threat and based on local risk assessment, involving every part of the tourism value chain – public bodies, private companies and tourists, in line with WHO’s overall guidance and recommendations.

UNWTO and WHO stand ready to work closely with all those communities and countries affected by the current health emergency, to build for a better and more resilient future. Travel restrictions going beyond these may cause unnecessary interference with international traffic, including negative repercussions on the tourism sector.

I think your right. My stores shelves are stocked well in So Cal. Just a sensational headline for clicks I think.

Very mixed messaging. For the last couple of months, we've learned much about the virus based on what has happened in China. Now that the virus is in the states, all of a sudden what was true in China is no longer true. It makes no sense.

China has said that the virus can remain live on surfaces for 5-9 days. That means that close contact is not the only problem. If an infected person touches a chair, and an uninfected person who touches the chair puts their hands near their face, they risk infection. That's one of the reasons that hand washing is necessary - because we'll pick up the virus by accident from a surface and accidentally touch our face.

Downplaying the risk of infection might sooth fears, but it will also increase infection rates.

The production of "The Amazing race" has stopped. Tom Cruise's new MI movie has stopped as well in Italy due to the virus

In some YT video chats I have watched, there were some pooh-poohing the idea to stock up in advance. Well....

"In southern California, some Walgreens stores had been completely depleted of cough medicines, cold and flue medications, vaporizers, masks and thermometers."

In addition to stocking up because certain things may be in short supply, one of the reasons to maybe buy more of what we usually buy is so that we do not have to make as frequent runs to the store and potentially encounter infected people. Buying in bulk should have the added benefit of less frequent association with possible infectees.

Thanks! That's what doesn't sit well with me - that economics, such as tourism, are deemed more important than preventing the spread of the virus to the global community.

Pritzker, health experts talk Illinois' coronavirus responsePritzker, health experts talk Illinois' coronavirus response

CHICAGO (WICS/WRSP) — Governor JB Pritzker, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, and health experts took time on Friday to discuss the state's response to the coronavirus.

Earlier this month, two people in Illinois were confirmed to have COVID-19 and both individuals have made a full recovery.

The fight against the spread of the virus continues though.

“Our top priority is keeping Illinoisans safe and we are using every tool and resource at our disposal to prepare for this virus and contain any spread,” said Governor JB Pritzker. “This is a coordinated effort with state, city and local entities working together to put the full weight of our government behind this response. Illinois has a leading public health system that was the first – and remains one of just a few nationally – able to test for COVID-19 and we will continue leading the way forward to protect our communities.”
The immediate health risk to the state remains low.

Exactly right! BBM
ETA to add that I originally stated how much I agree with this. And also BBM. Don't quite know how my quote got inside the box.
