It's the end of the world as we know it
I feel fine

It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine (because if I'm not tested then I don't have it, because if I'm not tested then I don't have it, ...)

A second case of coronavirus found through spread in California
https://www.washingtonpost.com/heal...53c93a-5a77-11ea-9b35-def5a027d470_story.html
Feb. 28, 2020

“California has a second case of community transmission of the coronavirus, a 65-year-old resident of Santa Clara County who has no known history of travel to countries hit hard by the outbreak, people familiar with the case said Friday.

There is also no apparent connection between the new patient and anyone else with the disease caused by the virus, covid-19.”

(ETA: Wow, yesterday they refused to give personal details due to patient privacy. Here we’re seeing “age”...)

Um:

“That means the virus appears to be spreading among at least two separate populations, according to people who spoke on condition of anonymity because the information has not been released publicly.”

I hope the anonymous source is valid. Last thing we need are unproven rumors.

ETA: Actually not true, I’m hoping it’s a rumor

Looking for more information of course.

I am skipping the Shakespeare festival this year due to this. Sad but true....

Very smart. They lost at least $2 million during the smoke from wildfires, so this will be another big hit...and it will trickle down to the small businesses that depend on visitors. So we can see how this could play out in communities all across the country.

I won’t even join my husband at a local movie theater to see “Call of the Wild” this weekend.

“Two separate cases of community transmission likely means that there are others in the United States, said Jennifer Nuzzo, senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security.

“I think there’s a strong possibility that there’s local transmission going in California. In other words, the virus is spreading within California, and I think there’s a possibility other states are in the same boat. They just haven’t recognized that yet,” she said.

Little else is known about the case, including the person’s condition and how long the resident was in the community while infectious.”

California reports a second coronavirus case, likely from community spread

“Santa Clara is about 90 miles from Solano County, where earlier this week the first known case of a person who was infected in the community lives. The first case, a woman, is reportedly seriously ill and on a ventilator.”

—-

“Santa Clara County health officials are holding a press conference at 4 p.m. Friday to discuss the new case. Dr. Sara Cody, the county's director of public health, along with Dr. Jeff Smith, the county executive, will attend the press conference, along with other local, state and federal public health officials, including representatives from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the State of California Public Health Department and more.”

“This new case indicates that there is evidence of community transmission but the extent is still not clear,” said Dr. Sara Cody, Health Officer for Santa Clara County and Director of the County of Santa Clara Public Health Department. “I understand this may be concerning to hear, but this is what we have been preparing for. Now we need to start taking additional actions to slow down the spread of the disease.”

My son is coming from LA this weekend, has an old college friends get together...I am torn, I so love to see him but what if he brings it with him? As close as we are to Mexico tho, its just as likely to be here as it is there, I think. And now my boss, bless his 80 year old self (he says he will die with his boots on thank you) is going home with aches and pains and chills, and a sour belly...more likely the flu, that but I hate getting that as well...signing off the raging hypochondriac...

I salute all the nurses and other medical staff, your spirit is stouter than mine.

Booo facebook video isn’t working for me.

I don’t anticipate much different information, etc. than from yesterday’s conference.

Are you an optimist or a pessimist? Friends and I have discussed the obvious panic in some people in the states, and we're genuinely interested. For the record I'm an optimist, my glass is always at least half full. I am also 4 years NED (no evidence of disease) of a late stage aggressive cancer. For the record statistically I only had a 15-20% chance to live for 5 years. I frequently write with others who have what we describe "cancer head". That is when the fear of cancer crowds out all thoughts other than when will it recur.

I only ask this because I am in the middle of the US, near a University that is now calling back students from South Korea who are studying there. We understand these measures as being conservative, not fear rational. I am also located 50 miles from the UNMC campus which has housed Ebola patients and now coronavirus patients. We're just trying to understand if large major cities are more prone to worrying because of the population.

My friends and I have a healthy outlook on life, not wanting to take unnecessary risks, but wanting to live life today, not delay for a future date.

We are serious in trying to understand the panic buying of things, even when people say they can't afford to buy extra because of income limitations. We see it as sad that people will spend their last few dollars on things that they normally wouldn't, when they so badly need to have living expenses for the next week. We also see that panic as part of the reason for the market downturn and possible economic downturn.

Thanks and always me and my friends MOO
