Airlines are offering basement-bargain flights for as cheap as a cup of coffee as millions of people face travel restrictions due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Chinese airlines are flogging one-way fares for as little as $6, while Air New Zealand has just announced trans-Tasman flights for as little as $128 as it tries to get people flying despite coronavirus fears.

And the dirt-cheap prices could keep coming as airlines struggle to fill planes due to the virus outbreak, an Australian analyst says.
Airlines are offering $6 trips to keep people flying during virus outbreak

It's about time that airlines re-introduced some class to the service they offer. This basement bottom greyhound bus experience that is currently available on all airplanes needs a re-think.

Press release from Washington state on 2 new cases of coronavirus. One of them was locally acquired, the other one is linked to South Korea. BNO Newsroom on Twitter

Wow...second cases appears to be locally acquired as you mentioned - that patient is a high school student.

Noting that S. county iirc moo is the same county as the first patient in the US, who cooperated with the self isolation.

Additional Cases of COVID-19 in Washington State

“In Snohomish County, a person under the age of 18 with no travel history is also a presumptive positive. He is currently in home isolation as well. That patient visited Seattle Children’s North Clinic on Monday, Feb. 24. Snohomish County Health District is working alongside the Everett Public Schools to ensure the safety of students and staff at Jackson High School, where this student attends. Everett Public Schools is taking this very seriously and in an abundance of caution, the superintendent has decided to close Jackson High School on Monday to allow three days for deep cleaning.

While the King County case is believed to be travel-related, we don’t know how or where the new Snohomish County case was infected. We are working hard to find and identify how the patients were exposed as well as tracing people who might have been exposed to this patient.”

—-

The new Snohomish County case would be the fourth instance of community spread in the country, the CDC said. There are two possible instances in California and one that was announced earlier on Friday in Oregon.

“Neither patient is seriously ill, officials said.”

Indeed, I agree there’s a high chance Japan was infected before/independently of the cruise ship. No doubt about that.

ETA: I’ll have to refresh on the “lady of the night”, I’m not recalling that atm.

ETA2: I started keeping a “Japan file” from day 1, but after a while blew it off when everything started progressing and becoming so multidimensional, but I’ll look back and see what I can find.

If you can pinpoint the cruise ship dock day to January 31 in Japan, then the only question is whether the Japan Uber driver was on January 30 or earlier.

In any case, the cruise ship was unlikely the start of the virus in Japan. There may be a 2-3 weeks stealth period when the virus is undetected, as in Italy. It's almost like it's always too late when it is recognized.

Corona beer isn't making any changes to its advertising despite the name's unfortunate similarity to the deadly coronavirus. Constellation Brands, which brews several variations of the popular lager, said in a statement that its customers "understand there is no link between the virus and our business."

"Sales of Corona remain very strong and we appreciate the continued support from our fans," Constellation Brands spokesperson Stephanie McGuane told CNN Business. "Our advertising with Corona is consistent with the campaign we have been running for the last 30 years and is based off strong consumer sentiment."

Constellation said Corona Extra sales grew 5 per cent in the United States in the four-weeks that ended February 16. That's nearly double the trend of the past 52 weeks. Corona's sales are heavily dependent on the US market, unlike some of its far-more-international rivals.

The first case is a school? I suppose that means a higher rate of transmission.
All those children with no vaccines.....what kind of complications might that cause if they get this? I'm sure this virus will lovvvvve a pure host.....IYKWIM....

“The U.S. stock market fell for the seventh straight day amid fears of global economic damage from the escalating outbreak, and the Federal Reserve took the unusual step of issuing a statement to reassure Americans.

“The fundamentals of the U.S. economy remain strong. However, the coronavirus poses evolving risks to economic activity,” Fed Chair Jerome H. Powell said. “The Fed is closely monitoring developments and their implications for the economic outlook. We will use our tools and act as appropriate to support the economy.””

“On Tuesday, Massachusetts-based biotech company Moderna Therapeutics shipped its first batches of a potential coronavirus vaccine to the the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Time reported. They expect to begin human testing in April at the earliest, and approval could take months.”

[...]

“Despite our country’s comparatively high reliance on private transportation, the virus could still spread to isolated rural areas, says Lisa Gralinski, a virologist at the UNC Gillings School of Public Health. She points to COVID-19’s emergence in every single Chinese province, not solely its urban centers.”

"Closing the high school for 3 days for deep cleaning"......it won't matter. Nobody is going to send their kids back in there for a couple of weeks. They might has well move on to online school. IMO.....
