Ok, so there's already a problem with the current US batch of COVID-19 diagnostic tests being faulty.

US coronavirus tests are faulty and 'cannot be relied upon', New York says

This directive from FDA is allowing more private laboratories to make and distribute these diagnostic tests even more quickly with less federal review? Not sure how this is helping.

Yes, they addressed this in front of the subcommittee hearing yesterday.

The FDA was delaying the "fixed" test that the CDC wanted to get out that the private labs had for the new "fixed" one quickly . . Was rather heated during that discussion as the CDC wanted it out, but federal regulatory constraints prevented it for some time... and CDC.. well, they spoke their peace during the hearing. MOO

Great idea, except the virus may be airborne.
As stated, it's not perfect but one step, but thanks for pointing out where it doesn't work.

Thank you. I'm also in a dilemma. I belong to the Mill Creek Garden Club. We have a upcoming luncheon ( a buffet setting) in two weeks time. I don't want fear dictating my life but this worries me. Not sure if it's best to cancel the upcoming luncheon or attend.
When in doubt, don't.

I'm watching the White House presser now. I really wish they could find a medical expert to speak and who is good at communicating accurate information to the general public.

Too many speakers is dull, and people tune out.
Condescending tone, people are turned off.

Surely there are medical experts who communicate well.....and we don't need a whole line up of people at the press conference. Assign a competent communicator who instills a feeling of trust and stick with that person.

My opinion only.

Well, first we were told the virus would go away with warm weather. Then it was like the common cold. Next came political slants. Now we’re told healthy people SHOULD be able to recover. Honestly, I feel so safe (not).

Hands free sanitary door opener. I just saw one of these for the first time at a local McDonalds.

Hands-Free Sanitary Door Openers - Set of 2 - 5402

These should be everywhere!

I'm not really going to worry too much about this, nor am I going to start stocking up on supplies. I don't want to add to any unnecessary shortages. I'm a little concerned about prescription drugs and any imports from China.

As crappy as it sounds we are all gonna die one day, none of us know when. There is little point in worrying about something we have no control over.

I too may bust out my giraffe suit/mask, which in the past was reserved specifically for Chris Watts court hearings and throwing stones.

Or to visit with April, the giraffe, that we have a thread here for?

Ha, ha! That would be assuming the WH was interested in the general public having accurate information. I just don't see that anymore. I no longer consider the WH a credible source of information.

Yeah. I’m thinking about this. The flu can kill me. I’m probably more likely to come into contact with the flu at this point.

There are also other things that I may be facing in life that could kill me. So I’m thinking I will continue to live. Some precautions but I could be hit by a car tomorrow.

Has anyone heard of Dean Koontz the Eye of Darkness? A friend texted me saying excerpts describe the corona virus exactly, as a Chinese biological weapon that would come out in 2020!

Don’t forget the “wonderful woman”. :D

Back from shopping. I ran out of steam, so we skipped the movie. Maybe tomorrow...or not. I’ll have to get Junior Mints elsewhere perhaps. :) Lysol wipes in soft packages were gone. I got some in a container you pull them out the top of. Got bleach, hand sanitizer, replaced cough medicine and cough drops. DH had bought a good supply of Kleenex, TP and paper towels at Walmart last week. We have enough Tylenol and ibuprophen. We have N-95 masks leftover from our wildfire smoke-filled summer of 2019. Food OK for now. It’s time for a nap! See you later. o_O

The governor and and another Washington source said male.

That's not the way I read this sentence: “Dr. (Robert) Redfield briefed the VP and POTUS after speaking with Washington State health officials that it was a woman. Washington State has since corrected," the official said."

But I suppose either reading could be correct.

Well, I'm referring to a medical expert. Surely there are medical experts who are also good communicators. There is no reason the press conference shouldn't be tightly run with a clear, concise message that the public understands, conveyed in a way that invites people to WANT to learn, not tune out or feel condescended to....or bored at the tedious length, shuffle of speakers, and off-topic comments.

I'm staying away from commenting on politicians, but not because I don't have some choice comments to make. My fingers are falling asleep for sitting on them. :)

Ita.

There were reports that the doctor who initially broke the Covid 19 story (he sounded the alarm that it was out and spreading) mysteriously died after initial reports that he was on the mend.
Then the article disappeared from Abc news.
@LietKynes Are you thinking of the doctors in China or were there some elsewhere?
Regarding the director of a hospital in China:
"Wuhan Municipal Health Commission later said Liu died at 10:54 a.m. and that he was 51 years old.

Nearly two weeks ago, doctor Li Wenliang, who was initially reprimanded by local authorities for his early warnings about the virus, also died from the new coronavirus.
