I’ve followed this case in Humboldt county in far northern CA because I used to live there. The couple returned from China and developed symptoms.

Dr. Teresa Frankovich, the county’s public health officer, told the Outpost that the two local people who are currently in self-isolation in their home – one of whom was officially confirmed to have contracted the virus, the other showing symptoms – traveled back to Humboldt County from mainland China near the end of January. They hadn’t visited Hubei Province, the epicenter of the epidemic.

Frankovich said that the people in question have been “extremely conscientious and compliant,” and have, throughout, taken every care to prevent the virus’s possible spread.

The close contact has tested “indeterminate” for coronavirus.

MOO- the TOURISM INDUSTRY is all powerful in Florida and especially around Orlando (Disney World) where this case is
sitting untested. I predict when the first cases
are finally announced here, the # of cases will
mushroom like a cyclone because there's been
much foot dragging in testing, no accurate tests available, no in state labs set up, news blackout per our Governor.
Disney and other theme parks like SeaWorld
and Universal are very, very powerful here.
Money over health of the people.
I saw this article....it doesn't align with the actions of the state in the past 2 weeks. They have literally shown their axx about not having access to do testing in the state and not having test kits. I think there is more to this story other than a conspiracy against this woman.

How hard is it to put a mask on? In China, a lot of people are wearing masks even when they are not sick. In US, it doesn't seem to be so. But if everybody decided to wear a mask, there will be a horrible mask shortage-there already is.
Have you actually been out or online to buy any
masks lately?? Good Luck finding them.
Our POTUS said there are 43 million masks
ready for use- LIE- maybe they're sitting in a
gov't. warehouse somewhere but they're not
available to the average Joe.
The ONLY reason they are discouraging the public from using masks is due to the shortage.
Period. Don't believe the BS our gov't. is putting out.

Actually I'm watching Twitter for many doctors and scientists....they agree with our government. MASK ARE FOR SICK PEOPLE, NOT HEALTHY PEOPLE.....there is a shortage of the reserve for healthcare workers....

Let’s make a deal with each other:

When and if this really starts going downhill, if anyone freaks out, we will help each other “calm down and get a hold ourselves” :D

I hate to tell you this, but there is no other direction but down right now.....it will get much worse before it gets better. No need to freak...nothing we can do about it anyway other than wash our hands. :)

Yeah, that realization hit me about a week ago. Basically all we can do is to try and stay as germ free as possible and take other preps like we have been talking and thats about it. Praying helps too for me.

Strong genomic evidence of silent transmission in the US. Which would be expected from travel volumes and case definition (as would be the case for most countries). Massive scale up in testing of symptomatic individuals now needed to protect health care workers.

Preliminary genetic analysis indicates that the Brazil/SPBR1/2020 genome differs by three mutations to the Wuhan-Hu-1 reference strain. Two of these mutations are shared with its closest sequence, strain Germany/BavPat1/2020, a strain recovered from a male patient pertaining to a transmission cluster from Munich, Bavaria, Germany (strain Germany/BavPat1/2020 with GISAID accession ID EPI_ISL_406862).

UK health minister: We are planning in case coronavirus gets much worse UK steps up coronavirus planning, may bring doctors out of retirement Reuters on Twitter

Reuters on Twitter

(Reuters) - Britain is planning for the global coronavirus epidemic to get worse, health minister Matt Hancock said on Sunday, describing the outbreak as a "very, very significant challenge".

Prime Minister Boris Johnson will chair a meeting of the government's emergency response committee on Monday, signaling a stepping up of Britain's preparation for the epidemic which began in China, where authorities estimate it has killed almost 3,000 people worldwide.

"We've got a clear strategy for dealing with coronavirus - a very, very significant challenge," Hancock told Sky News. "We're also planning in case this gets worse, much worse."

If the virus becomes more widespread, the government will look at registering retired health workers to work again, and whether encouraging people to work at home could delay its peak until summer when it can be more easily dealt with.
