UCLA anesthesiologist, vocal against COVID vaccine mandates, is escorted out of workplace

A UCLA anesthesiologist who is vocal about his opposition to the COVID-19 vaccine mandate was escorted out of his workplace Monday for attempting to enter the building unvaccinated.

In a video that he seemingly captured himself, Dr. Christopher B. Rake is seen being escorted out of the 200 UCLA Medical Plaza in Westwood by three individuals.

“This is what happens when you stand up for freedom and when you show up to work, willing to work, despite being unvaccinated, and this is the price you have to pay sometimes,” he says. “But what they don’t realize is that I’m willing to lose everything — job, paycheck, freedom, even my life for this cause.”

Rake has been vocal about his beliefs before. On Aug. 29, he was recorded at an anti-vaccination rally in Santa Monica speaking about his opposition to the Aug. 5 California order that all healthcare workers must be vaccinated against COVID-19 by Sept. 30. In opposition, Rake founded an anti-vaccination organization called Citizens United for Freedom. In the video, Rake tells the crowd, “They want to force a vaccination or medication or treatment into my body that I don’t want. So they’re telling me, ‘Take the jab or we take your job.’ And I’m here to say no. That’s not OK.”

UCLA Health said in a statement that active employees not working remotely must be vaccinated or receive an exemption, in compliance with the state public health order. “Those out of compliance are subject to progressive discipline, including restricting access to work sites and being placed on leave,” the statement said.

It is unclear what consequences Rake faced as a result. Rake did not respond to a request for comment.

That is astounding - he said he is willing to lose his freedom in the name of freedom? That reminds me of the Monty Python bit where Eric Idle is dressed like John Lennon and says "I'm going to start a war for peace."

This Colorado town is about as vaccinated as it can get. COVID still isn’t over there. – Canon City Daily Record

Covid manages town. Instead of town managing Covid. 99% vaccinated, folks still getting Covid.

Just to head off those who will now say that the vaccine doesn’t work, a little more information explains why people are still getting Covid here in this highly vaxxed area with many tourists…

If vaccines were the singular armor against COVID’s spread, then on paper, San Juan County, with its 730 or so residents on file, would be one of the most bulletproof places in the nation.

Yet the past few months have shown the complexity of this phase of the pandemic. Even in an extremely vaccinated place, the shots alone aren’t enough because geographic boundaries are porous, vaccine effectiveness may be waning over time and the delta variant is highly contagious. Infectious-disease experts say masks are still necessary to control the spread of the virus.

The county logged its first hospitalizations of the pandemic in early August — this year, not 2020. Five summer residents were hospitalized. Three ended up on ventilators: Two recovered and the third, a 53-year-old woman, died at the end of August. All were believed to be unvaccinated.

Good points: additionally children are not vaccinated and people came into the town who were not vaccinated. One has to read the entire article to understand it is not a hit job on vaccines.

Yes. A sobering message, for those of us who thought that the "vaccine" was our "get out of jail" card. It wasn't the magic sold to us.

Covid-19 is our new reality. Lockdowns didn't work, vaccines are only part of the equation. Masks, social distancing, vaccines...and learning to live in our new world.

Merck’s COVID-19 pill could carry serious safety concerns, scientists warn

There are some potential safety with the new Merck Covid treatment (pill)
After reading this article, I believe the vaccine is far safer. To the best of my recollection there was a very small sample of patients during that trial- I remember thinking that at the time I read about the potential for this pill to be used as treatment early on in the infection

It's sad, and could happen to any of us: you get caught up with a cause or ideology, surround yourself with like minded people, shut down opposing viewpoints and end up painting yourself into a corner.

The vaxx issue may have begun as a political issue with some, but has morphed into a pseudo religious/dogmatic conundrum for others.

First we heard it was not safe because it was not officially approved by the FDA (government) so they would not accept it.

Now, it's officially approved by the FDA but they don't want to take it because the government says they should.
Imo

I remember after getting vaccinated and the taking off my mask when going out- I felt liberated and I too thought this was "our get out of jail card"--- I think there were a combination of factors that worked against the vaccine being our way out of this hell- The Delta variant came along and was a game changer- couple that with more people than expected not getting vaccinated, couple that with people, vaccinated and unvaccinated living life like there is no pandemic-- they aren't utilizing masks or social distancing

I know loads of fully vaccinated people with Covid at the moment, some are feeling really rough, the rest are doing ok and muddling through. None have needed hospital treatment.

UK cases at the moment are pretty high, but deaths are nowhere near what they were in the other waves. Quite a contrast with the graphs of less vaccinated countries. The vaccines ARE stopping serious illness and death here.

(PS anomaly in first wave of cases as we weren’t testing unless admitted to hospital - that wave should probably be as high as the other two)

This afternoon I got my Pfizer booster and a senior (high dose) flu shot at a local pharmacy. I decided it would be efficient to get both done at the same time (DH did the same). Flu shot left arm, booster right arm. Hoping the effects won't be too uncomfortable.

Just a little update here. Little Willa is home from the hospital and doing great. Back to normal. No other detected infections in the family. They all had negative PCR tests X2. And Willa’s test was an actual antibody test done at the hospital. She had positive antibodies but at discharge her PCR was negative.
Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. No need to respond and clog the thread but know you are all in my heart and I appreciate you!

Got my booster today !! ( and Flu shot earlier this week. )

Chart: The Covid-19 booster shot boom

An NBC News analysis of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data shows that the number of people receiving booster shots is outpacing those getting their first or second doses of the initial vaccination, and is contributing to a modest increase in Covid vaccinations in October.

This afternoon I got my Pfizer booster and a senior (high dose) flu shot at a local pharmacy. I decided it would be efficient to get both done at the same time (DH did the same). Flu shot left arm, booster right arm. Hoping the effects won't be too uncomfortable.

The last time I went to the Doctors, all the staff was masked.
I didn't really think that they wouldn't be, it never entered my mind that some might not have a mask on.
I had to take my mother over to Iowa for a doc appointment and the doctors were not masked. I avoid that entire state when I can. It's like night and day when you cross the Mississippi up here.

Thanks for pointing out the pure evil they are using for their justifications.
So many people will die while awaiting transplants. So it makes no sense to waste precious organs on those who are unwilling to do everything they can to make it a success. This is already done anyway. An active smoker, for instance, is not going to be given a lung before a nonsmoker gets one. I'm a smoker myself and I see this as fair. Likewise, drinkers will not get a liver before non-drinkers. This is basic common sense, if you ask me.

Pretty much all medications carry risks for some people. It comes down to a question of how serious is the health risk and how many people are affected by it.
