It seems with the vaccine effectiveness waning it takes more than just the vaccine to avoid getting the virus. Masking and social distancing are still important. Here in Michigan we are now the hot spot in the nation and for the life of me I cannot figure out why. It can't be the "cold"- cause it just turned cold here. I am at a loss to explain why Michigan has way more cases than, for example, Florida. Sigh.

DH and I had our Pfizer boosters yesterday. We both agreed that the injection stung, and we both have sore left arms. DH is running a slight fever this morning, but I am fine. We didn't make plans for anything today and will have a quiet day at home. We are glad to have the shots behind us and hope we are protected for at least a year. Despite our longing to get away this winter, we will not make travel arrangements until the pandemic is well under control.

Good that you got your boosters! I plan to get mine this week at Rite Aid- it will be the Moderna 1/2 dose---- I too want the shot behind me: my husband had his Pfizer booster 3 weeks ago--Hoping we won't need another booster for a while (like a year would be good)-- It is a shame you cannot get away for the winter: we are going to Florida this year---for some inexplicable reason Florida has way less cases than Michigan. While I keep reading that Michigan is a hot spot in the nation, there is not one article that gives a reason for this surge in Michigan.

Could it be counties or schools without a mask mandate? Indoor sports leagues starting up and low vaccination rates?
:(

This seems to be the nature of the virus. I recall a nurse, last year, telling me that a "Coronavirus does what a Coronavirus does" in terms of spiking and receding, and there is little, if anything people can do about it. It was interesting because this was in the midst of our summer surge and he said "it's already gone, from here, and moved on." Right after that, our metrics cratered and it went elsewhere.

This always gives me pause, when I read experts, like the one in Ireland, talking about the most vaccinated place on Earth becoming a hot spot. He made a comment like if not for the vaccination rate it would be way worse - as if cases would rise to infinity. Clearly places like Florida show that, regardless of mitigation, the virus spikes and recedes.

First of all, that's probably Never going to happen. Years? Maybe. Months? Not A Chance!

And I have news for Dr. Fauci. The vast majority of Americans are already back to a "sense of normality." Some were back to it while the outbreak was at it's worst. No, I'm not going to eat any vegetables. Just give me my d&*n cake and ice cream.

Sadly, he's really kind of wasting his breath at this point. Those who hate him and have ignored every single thing he's said for the last 20 months, are Still hating him and ignoring everything he says. If they are even listening, it's only to find contradictions in his recommendations, so they can throw it back in his face. The sooner they do that, the faster they can go back to the place they can get real medical advice from experts. Facebook and that TV Network.

Dr. Fauci is talking about what needs to be done to move from a pandemic to an endemic. Again, that's likely news to most people, who think the pandemic is a already a memory rather than a current event. He's simply stating what would be possible, were we living in an intelligent society, where people actually cared, and followed the recommendations of scientists and other experts. Unfortunately the society we're in is so far removed from that as to make it more like a Fantasyland type proposition.

There was maybe a couple of week period back in April/May, when even my pessimistic self thought that perhaps we could be responsible and nip this virus in the bud. But seriously, it must be evident to those smart enough to see the potential for success in controlling the virus going forward, that it's an unachievable goal.

I've thought about schools, but school has been in session now since August, so why the surge now? There have been lots of college football games, like at U of M with over 109,000 people in the stadium- that was in August, and that did NOT result in a surge.
Go figure!!!!

One of the articles I was reading on the MI surge blamed kids/schools for the uptick but idk. I feel like it has to be a combination of things.

Thank you! you said everything I was thinking and would want to say, but you said it perfectly! I really like Dr. Fauci, but is he paying attention to what is going on in the real world, not the world he wishes were so!

I think in relation to Ireland they were talking about the point at which the hospitals would be overwhelmed. They believe that without the vaccines the hospitals would already not be able to cope, not that cases would rise to infinity. As it stands the hospitals are nearly full but they think the vaccines have kept the numbers just about manageable.

Just got my Moderna booster at Rite Aide--- lots of people were getting their booster. I think we are seeing more people here in Michigan getting their booster in the past week or two because of the surge here in this state. I was lucky to get it today since I was a walk in.

NFL chief medical officer pushes back on Aaron Rodgers' claim that some COVID-19 protocols are 'not based in science' — USA TODAY

“Allen Sills, the NFL's chief medical officer, pushed back on the notion put forth by Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers that the league's COVID-19 protocols, established in conjunction with the NFL Players Association, are based on anything other than science and data.

“We've been very consistent,” Sills told reporters during a conference call on Wednesday. “First of all, these are things that we decided collectively with the players association (NFLPA). They're always based on science. The science that at best we understand for public health, but also our own data. We are constantly looking at our own data in every way possible, to see where we might still be vulnerable and what parts of our protocols we think are particularly effective. So, we're very comfortable with what we've put in place being driven by our data and is working.”

“Rodgers said during a Nov. 5 appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" that he didn’t believe the NFL's COVID-19 rules were based on science.

“Some of the rules to me are not based in science at all,” said Rodgers, two days after he tested positive for COVID-19 and began a mandatory 10-day quarantine that would force him to miss one game. “They are based purely in trying to out and shame people, like needing to wear a mask at a podium when everyone in the room is vaccinated and wearing a mask makes no sense to me.”

Hi, neighbor. Hope you're going to be alright following your Moderna booster. My is still very sore, and I also have mild pain on the left side of my neck. Haven't taken Tylenol but might tonight at bedtime. DH has napped off & on throughout the day and still has a mild fever. Neither of us had bad reactions to our original shots, so this has caught us slightly off guard. Thankfully, we have nothing planned for tomorrow and can spend the day resting.

I guess you just never know how the vaccine can affect you. I really didnt
want to get the booster for that reason, but obviously it would be foolish
not to get it. i hope both you and hubby feel better soon. I tried to get the
shot at CVS but there were 40 people ahead of me --Rite Aid had a lot less people.
waiting. Take care.

I have weird allergies, and a funky immune system, so I was not sure how I would respond to my initial "Spikevax" (Moderna) shots.

I did have arm pain, headache, fever and fatigue with both, although the second, less so. My symptoms largely lasted 1-2 days, and I managed them with concurrent dosing (lowest effective dose) of acetaminophen/paracetamol, also naproxen and rest.

More preferable than contracting Covid, for sure! JMO
